What th'...?!?!

2003-07-02 Thread Arlis R Tyner
I've been getting daily bounce warnings now for weeks, and I thought that maybe the
problem is with my netscape account, so I thought I'd unsubscribe to the list, then
re-subscribe with another e-mail account.

Well, I've sent two unsubscribe requests to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", to no avail, and even
a request to the listmom to unsubscribe me manually, and yet the digests keep coming.

Anybody have a clue as to which listgod I must propitiate to get this address
unsubscribed?

Thanks,

Arlis

Am I the only one receiving these bounce warnings daily? I keep sending the reply as

Hi Ben.

I got the latest version of EMMpathy from Bill Steinberg <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. I
couldn't find it posted online anywhere, so I
e-mailed and asked him for it.

Recording on PB520

2002-12-18 Thread Arlis R Tyner
When I try to record on my 520 all I get is a screeching noise, no matter what
combination of settings I try. The first time I used it it worked ok, but when I
started experimenting with the settings, I got this screeching noise. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks,

Powerbook 520 and 802.11b??? Followup.

2002-10-21 Thread Arlis R Tyner
Hello, everybody.

A week or so back, I wrote asking if anyone knew the feasibility of using 802.11b
wireless with a 520 powerbook. Well, I've uncovered something interesting. Check this
link:

http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?grid=22&prid=432

It's called "Wireless Ethernet Bridge", and it apparently plugs into your ethernet
port. Also, because it requires no drivers, it runs on any platform.

I'm still unclear as to whether this device will allow me to use the Pringles Can
antenna I mentioned or will allow me to use wireless internet.
I swear, I used to be a Mac and internet whiz, but a few years out of the field and
I'm a complete novice again.

Strangely there is no pricing information (at least that I could find). I have an
e-mail request in for that.

Anyway, I thought I'd forward this information along in case it might be of interest.

Sincerely,

Arlis

Re: Powerbook 520 and 802.11b??? Followup.

2002-10-21 Thread Arlis R Tyner
Me again.

A little more searching and I found this:

http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/befsr41/fm_lnks

This company has the product for $103. According to their specs, this antenna is good
to 300 meters. Am I right in assuming this means I could connect to a HotSpot within
that distance for wireless internet, no other antenna needed?

I guess I should mention I am not a representative for this device or this retailer.

PB520 and 802.11b???

2002-10-12 Thread Arlis R Tyner
Hello, everybody.

I am a longtime vintage Mac aficionado, but I'm new to this group.

I was recently given a Powerbook 520, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the
feasibility of using this machine for wireless internet. I've been seeing a lot of
articles recently about making an 802.11b antenna from a Pringles can and 6 or 7
dollars worth of materials.

I live a rather transient lifestyle, and currently my only internet connection is at
the local library where I am limited to an hour a day and downloads are prohibited.
This Powerbook is my only computer, and it would be great if I could make it work with
one of these cheap Pringles can antennas.

Do I need a wireless network card? Can the PB520 even accept one, or be modified to do
so?

Sorry for sounding like such a newbie, but the last time I had regular access to my
own computer this Powerbook was the latest thing in laptop computing, and I was still
making do with a 3 year old Performa.

Thanks,

Arlis Tyner
