Narcoleptic 520c
I zeroed out the hard drive and reinstalled my software. I ran Norton and Disk Warrior. Zapped etc. But my 520c is still having serious sleep issues. It won't fully wake up. I'll hear the hard drive spin up and then I may get most of the screen back. But the mouse never actually becomes active. I found this: O'Grady's PowerPage - PowerBook 500 http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/tenchi/500.html#Trouble-Shooters PB wont sleep/freeze on wake/crash on sleep (NOTE, problem with 7.6.1)! First check all your extensions! Start with no extension (Shift Key held on startup), then try sleeping. Apple once mentioned a software patch to fix it, but I have never seen a patch itself. Bottom line, 99% of all these problems is extension and/or control panels. Only if crash continues with no extensions is an OS or hardware problem the cause. This may be the trickest problem to fix. Try running a newer version of the OS. I have noticed that any number of things could cuase the problem, even a simple as a CD-ROM or ZIP disk not in the SCSI drive. But even with extensions off I'm experiencing the same problem. Anyone know anything about the Apple software patch mentioned above? I'm running 8.1 and the Powerbook Control Panel is version 7.6.1 My hard drive is rather full. Could that be it? Thanks! JohnH -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... 520c Sleep Problem
Even on adaptor power I'm having a problem where my PB 520c won't come all the way back from a self induced sleep. I could set it up to never cycle down but in that I use it as a desktop hypercard rolodex etc. I'd rather be able to spin it up as needed. I'm running OS 8.1 and have plenty of RAM. Any suggestions? Re: 520c Batteries
Thanks Paul, I have 8.1 and NS 4.05 (I had bad luck with 4.08 somewhere along the line) installed now. A friend had the 29 pin SCSI cable she didn't need and so all that is confounding my neat little 68040 laptop (Paul I think you helped me a lot back when I was getting the 145B set up) is some batteries. But oi! $120-$145 for new ones. I downloaded the Intelligent Battery Renewal and it does the precharge but then tells me to return the battery to Apple. I thought I found a link to the Lind software BU 500 Deluxe, but the server is down just now. Were you saying that there is a VST battery utility as well? And no luck searching for battery rebuilders or any other query for used batteries. Any links there? Thanks again! JohnH Paul Nelson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: 520c Questions Any known resources for batteries or is it off to Ebay? Be wary about ebay for batteries. Rebuilders, including the Squid and some woman in Callifornia. New is pricey, Old ones are frequently recoverable with repeated use of combination of Intelligent Battery Renewal, VST, Lind (haven't tried this one yet). -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
