 Subject: Powerbook 3400/200

 I have two questions:

 1. On one side of my powerbook there is a receptacle for my floppy and i
imagine that's where the cdrom drives resides too. Now, on the opposite
side of the power book is another receptacle with a small opening
(compared to the floppy receptacle on the opposing side), what is this
second receptacle used for? A few ideas are coming to mind but I'd
somebody who knows to clear the air for me.

 2. I bought a bigger hard drive some time back. How do I replace a
 powerbook (3400) hd?
 TIA.

 1. That is the ADB port, you connect your external keyboard and mouse there, or my
QuickCam, that takes its power from it, as did some old 33.6 Kbps Supra external
modems.

 2. It is not too difficult to do it, just be very careful. And search for the
manual, is there somewhere.

 Best regards.
 Hugo Diaz
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I think he is actually asking about the PCM port, the slot, not the ADB
which is on the back...

The slot is for various adaptors, from ethernet to audio. It's the
Powerbook equivalent of a PCI slot in a desktop Mac.

Am I right?

Lots of Duos and PowerBooks looking for new homes! Everything must go. If it
isn't sold, it will be trashed. So...

If you see something you want but don't like the price, **MAKE AN OFFER** -
I won't be offended at any offer, and you'll probably get it. Other than I'm
sure that I would like at least a little cash (or in some cases, a promise
that it will be put to good use or even a gift certificate for a dozen
glazed Krispy Kremes or a peach pie from Baker's Square g) it is really
hard to say what is the right price. I just need to have as much of this
gone by next weekend as I can. Whatever is left by then will be disposed of.

I have prices listed but I don't have time to do a lot of research for
accuracy - my prices may be right or not (probably not), hard to say - but I
listed prices anyway since people seem to like seeing them. If the price
says $80 but your budget will only handle $40, make me an offer. You never
 know.

Trades are possible, but I'm not looking for a ton of stuff. See my want
 list at the bottom...

Figure shipping will be apprx. $15 for a PowerBook, $30 for a complete Duo
 kit. All shipping via USPS.

All items are guaranteed to not be DOA. There is no guarantee on any
batteries (main or PRAM) or internal modems. I haven't tested the modems,
and all batteries, given the age, are almost always dead by now anyway.
Still, unless otherwise noted, I will include a battery in case it might
work or in case you want to try to rebuild it.

Here's the list of what I have and again, make an offer if you want
something but don't like the price. I'd rather get something than toss 'em
in the dumpster, which is where they are headed otherwise.

It IS a li-ion, so I shouldn't let it discharge??? I should just keep

3400c/180

2002-12-26 Thread Lou Judson
Just signed on here seeking some help. My partner and I just got a
Powerbook 3400 for her son, to replace a PC laptop that was stolen and to
get him into Mac. It was cheap, and she has a 3400c/200 which has 9.1 and
all kinds of nice things, as we bought it used from a aound engineer who
knows about these things. It is mainly for email an web for him while hge
is in Australia for the next few months...

The new 3400 has OS 7.5.6, and no software or anything but the very basics.
I went to load some things on it from my 9500/G3 via CDROM, and it won't
read them - I'm wondering if installing a newer OS would be a good way to
start? Should it be 8.1, 8.6, or 9.1? It reads commercial CDROMS fine, I
did a Norton test and optimization on it.

Tips, suggestions, help all welcome...

Thanks,

lou

Re: 3400c/180

2002-12-26 Thread Lou Judson
Thanks, Peter. It has 32 M RAM - if the young man we are giving it to wants
to upgrade he can. I just want to set it up to work for him... Think I'll
try 8.6 for starters.

I would definitely upgrade the OS to at least 8.1. You didn't mention how much ram
is in the machine, so going higher than that depends on the amount of ram available.
I personally like 9.1, even if it does have a performance hit on an older cpu- I just
have fewer problems with it. I know others on the list like 8.6 with the 3400.
