Re: Orinoco Silver firmware?
right.. there is an etch on one side of the end that NEEDS to be on the card to let it FIT into a PCMCIA slot on a 1400. though requesting cardbus, I do not know how it works. I took a Wallstreet DVD and tried to put it into a 3500/Kanga/G3 #1, but the PCMCIA card for the wallstreet that was CardBus DID NOT work in the Kanga once trimmed to 'fit'... -p On 24 Feb, 2006, at 7:29 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Orinoco did make a CardBus version that wasn't, AFAIK, Mac compatible. CardBus cards have a metal finger contact strip around the connector. If it's just plain metal all the way from the connector end to the antenna housing then it's not CardBus. Did you try the other card slot? Have you tried the Airport drivers, at least in the WallStreet, I think you have to manually install the software on a 1400. A CardBus card won't insert into the standard PCMCIA slot on the 1400. It was a design feature, to keep people from attempting to use CardBus cards in the older slots. However, the CardBus standard is reverse compatible with the older PCMCIA standard. Caleb -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... well, now it seems the kanga won't boot from the 10.3 disc 10.2 was nice that is worked with the wireless, but 10.3 is nicer. *sigh* I want kanga to recognize some old card that I know it has not before, never did until I put 10.3 on it, lost it when I went to 10.2.8, I can't get it to recognize the pcmcia card... heh.. ok.. maybe I was not making myself clear.. with X, it was not supposed to show more than 256 colors, AND the card NEVER worked. in fact, when I upped my system to 10.2.8 it stopped seeing a card installed into the machine. Either my card has always been a bit shifty, and the second one also has been faulty OR something else was up not alloing the card cage on the kanga to be sen in MacOS X Basically my only experience with them Not working before is them not working before. then they did. it surprised me. SO.. has Kanga (according to XPF) always been able to do thousands of colors, even though it says only 256 works? and it has always been able to see PCMCIA cards in the Kanga? so why did I lose that ability to see the PCMCIA carrd when I upped it to 10.2.8 and worked again when I went down to 10.2 with no updates? AND should I bother to try thiswith 10.3 in thousands of colors or should I just let it float working at 10.2? Since Apple obviously isn't, given the success of the Mini, the Ipod and Itunes and OS X, then maybe some former PC partners may be jumping ship. Longhorn is very delayed. OS X just keeps getting better and better. Apple hardware is getting cheaper, if the Mini is a trend, so maybe, just maybe Apple is poised to take over the home PC world. Will we see OS X on PCs? Is there an Apple in everyone (elses) future? One of three computer teams is very dead right now, and under attack from hackers all over the world. The other two, Apple and Linux are doing quite well. Is all of this a sign of things to come? Where the heck is Nostradamus when we need him? Re: OT
weirdness on the computerization front.I know I originally started using a Mac because it was what my friend had had to use, but when it came to a computer purchase of my own decision, it was mac because it was not like this world full of computers that were all supposed to be basically operating the same way, and cheaper (ha!) than mac. All those Microsoft users out there will have to become the minority like we are now :-) -p On 24 Feb, 2005, at 18:29, Erich Zechar wrote: Call me a skeptic but I don't buy the idea that Microsoft is going down and Apple is on its way to a respectable market share, let alone dominance. Us Apple users forget there are people out there, totally average people, who absolutely will not use an Apple. Most of the time I say I use an Apple people roll their eyes. And not geeks or IT guys, everyday people. Let me amend that statement. If people open their minds and actually look at Apple products maybe its market share will grow. But people are lazy and would rather be unhappy with Windows than take the trouble to learn how to use an entirely new OS. And as a switcher myself, I can say that switching to Mac from Windows takes time and effort. It's worth it, but for those ingrained Windows users, especially older folks, it's a more difficult switch than we'd like to think. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see OSX offered on PCs in the near future. It's been said that Apple is a software company that sells hardware, and I can understand that. As much as like Apple's hardware, their software is even better. That said, if OSX was available on PCs, would Apple run into problems bundling it with iLife and iWork, like Microsoft has with its iExplorer and other apps? Ancient oddities..
Ok.. I have a powerbook 520c with the following changes.. it has a 603e @ 100mhz, an active matrix replacement display, a PCMCIA Card cage... I have gotten it to run 9.1... now.. how can I get the darn thing to recognize the Lucent Tech Silver or Gold WaveLAN cards? I have heard the system bus was an issue, but I do not recall, or know where to look. It has a 33mhz bus from the PowerPC chip, up from the 25mhz the 68LC040 came with. -p -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
