Dave,
I don't see this OT question listed as posted. I use WalMart POs because they
are much cheaper. It sounds like the guy/gal is ligit. If you get a Postal
Money Order, you could cream them if they didn't send you what they advertised,
using Mail Fraud. I have nEVer had trouble using POs. Just make sure you save
the reseat and note the code.

Pete.
I won an auction, sent someone money via paypal, and then the seller
dissappeared, taking my money with them. I contacted paypal, opened a
claim, and they said that they too were unable to contact the person, but
since they had closed their ebay and paypal account, paypal could do
nothing for me. So I lost over $80. This was about eight months ago.

Personally, I like paypal--never had a problem with them yet (knocking
wood.) And this 50+ year-old really likes those newfangled ways--I can't
even remember when I paid a bill using a check rather than my bank's free
online billpay. (Did you know that Paypal also offers free online
billpay--tho it has to be a provider that's already set up to accept
electronic payment. My bank's system will cut a check and mail it for me,
say, to my Dr. Paypal won't. But they cover a very large number of
utilities, credit cards, etc.)

I don't understand why people use Paypal. They have a terrible record
for being used to scam people out of their money. Your purchases are
guaranteed..but you have to pay a small "service fee" to get your
money back so Paypal makes a profit on someones illegal activity. And
who do you think pays for the losses ? It doesn't come out of Paypal's
profits. The customers pay for it just as in all credit card losses
and the scammers move on.

The best thing to use for on-line purchases are the US Post Office
money orders. They are as good as cash and can be cashed at any US
post office. If you are ripped-off, the US Postal Inspectors office
will be working to get the thieves stopped and possibly get your item
or money back. I like the idea that justice will be served better much
better than just a refund.

Personally I won't send an individual I have never dealt with any more
$$ than I can afford to loose. There's nothing I have to have that
bad.

I watch Ebay local auctions by doing a search by zip code and if you
are in a large metro area you can find a lot of stuff that can be
picked up. You can avoid outrageous shipping costs by picking up Ebay
stuff too. I have found some good deals because the high shipping cost
on heavy objects can keep people from bidding. If I don't have to pay
shipping (email the seller first) I can afford to bid more. And I can
meet the person I'm buying it from.

It isn't necessary to use Paypal with a credit or debit card--a
checking or savings account is usable too. I for one refuse credit
card paypal payments--they nick you too much for the "privilege" of
that--tho checking account transfers are "free."

I guess I just know several folks who don't trust or believe in "
newfangled ways" Probably a function of my age and social level.

When debit cards were new many were saying " it's the mark of the
Beast !" They'll tattoo that number on you next !

Etc.
Little did they know the tattoos are unnecessary They just track you
by satellite registration of your particular heat signature ! 8*()

Digital sensors are THAT sensitive now !

Many don't trust themselves with credit or debit cards. That does not
necessarily mean they are not trustworthy.

Many can't get either which may or may not indicate they are trustworthy.
Some just don't like modern credit methods etc. Or giving personal
info to agencies or out on the web.

And for those doing a volume business but avoiding taxes or other
complications M.O.s are harder to trace.

Hey Everyone,
I have a question that is OT.
What do you guys suggest for making a purchase from someone you don't know?
They don't have paypal, but their "buying" on Ebay gives them a 100%
feedback.
The cost is about $45 for what I am buying from them. Are money order safer
than checks? Or is there something else?
___
Did you read the feedbacks?
How many selling? Those he bought from may exaggerate. Those he sold
to would be less inclined.

A money order from USPS may have some protection. Since it's Federal.
Haven't kept up on it.

I have been burned twice on ebay. by sellers. out of about 75.
Never burned on the swap list. out of about 2 dozen maybe.
