Sorry about the post with nothing added. I just got up and Crazy Finger Disease struck. Christopher, I ordered a dongle from www.thesupplynet.com about 6 months ago. It ran about $35 US with shipping within the US. SupplyNet is located in New York state and will ship worldwide. Be sure and enter the URL correctly or you will get a fire srinkler company. GV was bought out a few years ago by Boca and again within about the last year by Zoom. IIRC the contact information on the GV web site has not change and they are not handling any orders for replacement parts. Brent -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... I have one dongle that has no card, I also have a few card dongle sets. $20 for the dongle by itself, $50 for the and dongle, plus shipping, sound fair? -Scott on 10/9/01 3:45 AM, Christopher Morgenstierne at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Can anyone on the list help me to get hold on a - well, ideally two - GV Pro 11/45 telephone/ethernet dongle(s)?? Re: Global Village (3)
Thanks, Clark. I was beginning to fear something the like. And the trouble is the GV dongle has proven impossible for me to get hold on (in Denmark), when I tried on behalf of a freind last year. Advertising on Mac lists, mailing to GV or faxing and snail posting their order form gave no reply. A request to Upgradestuff was no replied. I believe GV closed and were taken over - only that there is no one to open envelopes or looking after any fax any longer. Can anyone on the list help me to get hold on a - well, ideally two - GV Pro 11/45 telephone/ethernet dongle(s)?? Thanks Christopher Tølløse, Denmark It's possible your dongle cable is bad. Shortly after I bought (used) my GVPPro the Ethernet connection would only work if the dongle was in a certain position, sure signs one of the internal wires has broken. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Christopher, Please excuse my thinking out load, but it will help you see my logic (or is it madness?) and see if I am making any bad assumptions. I powered up the 5300 again, and even without the GV card in, AppleTalk had the option to connect thru Alternate Ethernet. For some reason your's is not seeing seeing the card. Since it is two different models of PB that are not seeing it, it is unlikely that both the PC card cages are bad. It could be the PC card may be faulty on the ethernet side. I would think the whole card would fail, not just part of it, I can use mine for both modem and ethernet at the same time. But??? You have tried both the upper and lower slots on both machines? More likely that it is s/w related. You said previously, I have downloaded a driver called 'GV PP PC Card for ARA 2.0' I have both the 56k card and the PP 28.8 card flash upgraded to 33.6 for my PB5300. In my Extensions folder I have GV 28.8-56k /V.90 Card for ARA 2.0, version 1.0.4, from PC Card for Mac 3.0.6 update, and GV 28.8-56k Card for ARA 2.0, version 1.0.4, from PC Card for Mac 3.0.2. Note the V.90 difference, and where they came from. There is a warning on the site not to use the upgrade 3.0.6 on the wrong PC card and that it may ruin it, but I had the 56k card first and had installed 3.0.6 prior. You maybe able to use the 3.0.6 to upgrade, __IF__ you leave the card out. DO so at your own risk! There is no repair if the flash upgrade damages it. The old fix was to send it into GV for replacement. GV is long gone, sadly. I would think that a better first plan is to remove 3.0.2, do a fresh download of it and do a fresh install with only Base OS Extensions on and any anti-virus s/w off. BTW your English is much better than my Scandinavian. The extent of my knowledge is Uff da! Pretty bad considering that I used to work for a Norweign. HTH, and keep us informed as to your progress. Global village (3)
I have got myself a new old Global Village Platinum Pro modem cum ethernet card. It works fine as a modem and I have flash upgraded it to 33000. But I can't get it working as network. When I try to swich Apple Talk, both on my 1400 with 8.5 and on the 190 with 7.3.5 it says something in Danish meaning 'not possible'. I have downloaded a driver called 'GV PP PC Card for ARA 2.0' [snip] and put in extensions folder, but I suspect it deals mostly with the card modem'ing. And I have the feeling that I mis some kind of driver. The options in the Apple Talk panel doesn't include a 'power port' option which I think it should have, ref the option as a modem to select 'power port'. I have the same card, but use it on a PB 5300. In AppleTalk chose the option of Alternate Ethernet, and remember that any time that you eject the PC card you must reselect it in AppleTalk the next time you want to use it. The 190, 1400 and 5300 all have no built in ethernet port. The ARA in the driver you downloaded refers to Apple Remote Access, so I _believe_ that it is for the modem and not the ethernet portion of the card. Brent Thanks for your help. Howver, the problem is, I can't choose Alternative Ethernet. The PBs consider for some time and then come up with a message meaning that there is something wrong with the connection and that it switches back to modem-/printer port.
