Internet Explorer For Macintosh for ebay

2006-02-02 Thread kaldav

Hello,
While many will not miss Internet Explorer, I don't know of a
replacement that will do as good a job for ebay auctions.
Now, when I download the web page for an item, IE downloads a copy of
the page, with an item description and with the url. Later, to check
the auction progress, I double click on this saved page on the
Desktop, click the Connect button and it connects and refreshes when
I click on the bids link.
However, when I tried Safari, an ebay auction page was not saved with
the images, the page did not have a correct title, and later double
clicking on the page just opened the page on my desktop but there was
no web url at the top- just a link on my Desktop so I could not
connect again to this page.
What browser are people using to follow ebay auctions- a browser
that downloads the page content and pictures? So far, I have found IE
the best for auctions, on both OS9 and OSX.

Would appreciate alternative suggestions.
Thanks.

Firefox allows you to save a pages as Web Page, Complete, which
does that.

For that matter, so does Safari...save as 'Web Archive', it saves the
text, images and other components of the page. If you save it as page
source, it doesn't do that.

I agree, IE has a good auction manager; however. I find that drawing eBay pages
is slow slow slow, especially under OS 9 -- unless you disable JavaScript, that
is. However, I need JavaScript to be active for the webmail on my ISP (SBC),
turning it on off in the prefs is inconvenient.

Netscape/WaMCom is faster, but invariably after a while in a session they to
crash hard bad under 9, needing a 3-finger salute to reboot. (Under Jaguar
Mozilla-based browsers still crash, but you can still use other apps afterword,
it being X .) IE crashes sometimes, but not so hard. Ah, the joys of trying to
stay afloat in the modern web on 9

I've tried Opera, but don't like it. I'd use iCab, if they ever get a final
version out, 1 that deals with CSS well, that I don't have to keep
downloading over over.

I've never tried the auction feature of IE5, but saving web pages with iCab,
including auctions pages with pictures, works great for me, too. The files
are usually small, and I can move them from OS9 computers to X computers(with
iCab 3.x on them) and vice versa with no problem. Just make sure to save
as... a web archive page to save the whole page as is. If the auction page
will
not update when you go to refresh it, at least you have the url in the url
block to paste into a new browser window.
