I don't know if a similar remedy will work for you, but ever since
I received my PB 190 the display would generate a comb-like row of white
pixel-wide vertical lines on the lower half of the screen if I handle the
lid a little too roughly, which goes away if I firmly pinch the left side
of the display housing approximately three inches from the top. I speculate
that doing so seats back some surface mounted display circuitry inside the
housing that somehow became loose. Hardly happens now since I know what
causes it and how to avoid or "fix" it (after weeks of hair-tearing
trial-by-errors).
BTW, I don't bother with JPEGView which my OS 8.1 PB 190 defaults
to for any new images which is irritating to me since I think
PictureViewers' quicker and smoother. Since Mac OS Easy Open doesn't do the
job with my preference, I change any new images' file type to OGLE via
Graphic Converter or File Buddy.

Good luck!

Malcolm,

Thanks. How can I free up more memory? I'm running RAM Doubler
already with 20mb physical so that gets me to 40mb. Should I close
some extensions? If so, how exactly do I do that?

Is there any way to fix these "dead" pixels? I've tried massaging the
screen and I've removed the keyboard and reset the ribbon cable.
Nothing has worked. Are there more cables to the LCD?
Sounds like a bad LCD. You could try swapping the data cable with one
from
another machine.

My second issue is that I can not run JPEGView 3.3.1. I'm running OS
8.1 and JPEG View crashes at launch with Error Code 3. Any clues on
how I can fix this? I'm new to these older Mac OS.
Isn't that no enough RAM ?

Best wishes

Newbie Issues with Duo 2300c

2004-02-03 Thread Brian Andrews
Hi,

I just picked up a Duo 2300c from the LEM Swap list. It arrived with a
cracked left front (battery holder) and a 1" stripe of white pixels
that runs across the entire screen, about 1" down from the top.

Is there any way to fix these "dead" pixels? I've tried massaging the
screen and I've removed the keyboard and reset the ribbon cable.
Nothing has worked. Are there more cables to the LCD?

My second issue is that I can not run JPEGView 3.3.1. I'm running OS
8.1 and JPEG View crashes at launch with Error Code 3. Any clues on
how I can fix this? I'm new to these older Mac OS.

Thanks,
Brian
