That's what I originally thought as well. I figured that the lower wattage
on the M7883 would just take a LOT longer to recharge the battery, but until
I had a real 1400 AC adapter, I killed an old battery, a new (old stock)
battery, and a rebuilt one I made. Mobo mojo maybe? Can anyone explain why
this happens?

Now, unfortunately, my sis and brother-in-law BOTH have Duo ac adapters on
their 1400s, so now I gotta get those replaced!

Anyone know why this is the case? Does this happen whenever you use a
lower-wattage ac adapter w/ a Powerbook? I thought the only drawback was
slower
recharge times, which I can certainly deal with...

Actually if you look in the archives, many people say the battery life 
goes way UP with the G3 upgrade- so the power drain would thus be LESS 
once upgraded.

so your situation might be a little better, but still hard to risk your 
battery.  The good thing, since they are NiMH and not lithium, it's not 
that hard to refurb your own battery (not that it's CHEAP to do so, but 
it isn't hard).

Mine is a 133 on a 117 motherboard, no CDROM, 6gb hard drive, and farallon
ethernet card.

Done this with the Duo adapter to my 1400 when the 1400's AC went bad. The
Duo's stock ac adapter doesn't put out enough power to charge the battery,
but it will run the 1400. Word of warning though, if you leave in the 1400's
battery when you use the Duo's adapter, you WILL kill the battery. Don't
know why, just happenssomeone with more knowledge here help me out?
