If all your mail is still on the .mac server,
change to pop for retrieving from .mac mail, IN Power Mail. If you are a
bit worried about losing something, leave messages on the server for a
few days until you can check you have it all. Your filter will sort the
.mac mail into the appropriate folders. Of course, not the IMAP folders,
you have to make new folders to sort into. Mine still aren't adjusted
quite right.

Alternatively [and I have done this both ways], use the Mail application
to get all of your .mac mail "on my computer" either deleting from the
server or leaving it on the server. Leaving it on the server actually
results in what looks like two copies of the mail, one the local cache
which is a reflection of what is on the server, and the other the one
that is actually ON your computer. Then, you can IMPORT the local folders
into PowerMail. Mailbox by mailbox, if you like.

PowerMail is really tolerant of this sort of thing. I was surprised how
easy it was to go back and forth. People say that they don't like to use
pop because it strips the server; but with PM it is very easy to leave
your messages on the server for a short or long time.

Importing IMAP into PM

2004-08-05 Thread Lally Singh

Hey all.

I'm experimenting with the idea of moving all my .mac messages into
powermail and dumping imap as a whole. However, it's got some
important stuff in there, and I'd like to save it (registration keys,
etc). Most of the messages haven't been fully retrieved. Is there an
easy way to get PM to retrieve the full message bodies and attachments
for my various folders-full-of-stuff in my IMAP account?

  Thanks!

Re(4): MailSword spam

2004-08-05 Thread Marlyse Comte

I had noticed the same - but I do not think this is a setting which PM
can change, only the original MailSword user.

If I understand the cycle correctly, what happens is that somebody (A)
writes to the list and the list server sends out that message to all
users, including the MailSword user (B) and then, as the message poster
name (A) shows up as the FROM, the MailSword user's software (B) will
'bounce' the message from the list server to the original FROM person (A)
and thus you get only your own postings to the list back with the request
to send that code.

Thank you.

It seems that something is configured strangely on the list. I appeared
that I got the Mailsword messages only in response to the mails that I
posted to the list--as if someone could use the mailing list software to
correspond to me personally. Of course, I can't be sure of this, but what
I observed was that I got 3 emails that corresponded to my 3 most recent
postings, and not for anyone else's (many 10's or 100's of) postings in
the last few weeks.

I suggest you look into whether there is a setting on your list software
that needs to be changed to protect us from idiots like this list member.

This is not a good idea, Mikael.

1) Read the FAQ:

2) You will only be putting the powermail list on the spamcop blocking
list, which is (probably) not what you want to do.

3) Abusing the Spamcop blocking service should/might/will get you banned.

Incidentally, we have manually removed [EMAIL PROTECTED] from our
listserv (it took several tries, but the address is now really off).

We have always been very reluctant to remove folks from our listserv (I

PowerMail can get AOL mail

2004-08-05 Thread Dr Dave

I just discovered that PowerMail v5 can send & receive AOL mail via an
IMAP server. :-)

  http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/

This is really nifty, as I don't like having to use a separate program
just to deal with AOL mail.

What I noticed is that because it's using an IMAP style connection, the
messages all vanish when you disconnect. That's not what I want & it
means that AOL can delete those whenever they feel like it. If I drag the
IMAP messages from the AOL inbox folder (in PowerMail) to another folder
they are copied. Cool. Now how can that be automated?

I tried setting up a Mail Filter:

IF Account ISmy_aol_acct
IF StatusIS Unread
Execute actions if all conditions are met

Actions:
Move message into folder: "zAol inbox".

But it doesn't work. Any suggestions or solutions?
Do mail actions apply to IMAP mail?

Best,
 Dave Nathanson

Hi all,

I too have received MailSword spam but I have also received the one below
which makes it look as if the recipient replied to it with the code 9188
as requested.

This guy needs a slap and if he is a list member should be removed from
the list.

A response from CTM as to what they are doing about it might be helpful.

Incidentally I don't use .mac so maybe the problem is not with that.

No, it didn't quote my message. Also I now notice that the MailSword
message is "Subject: RE: does this list work" where as the message I sent
and has appeared was the just "does this list work".

Its all very confusing, wasting a lot of time and someone needs a slap.

Thanks, Andy, Midi & Barbara, that "don't apply subsequent filters"
seemed to solve it. It had worked fine w/o that before and other filters
work w/o it, but somehow adding another folder and filter made it
necessary for that filter.

As Barbara also said make sure you don't have some other filter further

I think you need to check "stop applying filters to this message." You
must have some filter after it that is working on the same messages.

Check where the filter is in the list. Also check, "Don't apply
subsequent filters this message" at the bottom.

What am I missing???

I don't recall ever having a problem before w/ PM filters, but after I
set up a new filter and a new folder, messages from this mail list now
refuse to be filtered into my PM folder. I made no adjustments to the PM
filter until this problem started, but the filter now looks like (see
