RE: Better way than GETWORD... functions?

2006-09-26 Thread Christof Wollenhaupt
Hi Michael,

What's not easy with

? GetWordNum(m.lcString,1,",")

Or a loop like

FOR lnWord=1 TO GETWORDCOUNT(m.lcString,",")
  ? GetWordNum(m.lcString,1,",")
ENDFOR

Even the syntax in other languages isn't any easier, shorter or more
understandable. The GetWordNum() line would be in JavaScript (and probably
many other languages):

"Apple,Banana,Cucumber,Dates,Eggplant".split(",")[0];

I can't believe you bought something from an evil

pine?

But seriously, I only buy from someone with an
extremely high bizrate rating.

For electronics, Etronics.com and Buy.com have been
stellar.

I've been thinking the same thing, but he does seem to be focused just
on Bush, which I wonder may be due to an MSNBC mgmt imposed shield
around the real culprits. Anyone who knows anything about this stuff
knows Bush isn't an intellectual giant or policy thinker/writer, that's
he's coached with what to say, and he says it. Dobermann and MSNBC (and
Matthews, too) know it, but they don't seem interested enough (or
permitted) to put the dots together.

A knight without armor in a savage land,
His fast gun for hire heeds the calling wind,
A soldier of fortune is a man called Palladin
Palladin, Palladin, where do you roam?

(Johnny Western sings the theme)

I have the first two seasons on DVD...my girlfriend and I love it!

Most of them still hold up VERY well... some degree of misogyny and

You don't have to do anything. Just open those files
in foxpro, modify them, then close them. If it's not

network.

They won't change format. I have systems that have
both foxpro 2.5 and vfp sharing the same tables.

The proper term is a 'list', but yeah, it's like a VFP array.

theWords = "Apple,Banana,Cucumber,Dates,Eggplant".split(",")
print theWords

The tricky bit is that the BBB had a record of them under about 7 or 8
different names, none of them the name I ordered from.

I only found them by typing in their phone number... Tricky little devils.

As a service to my fellow foxers, here's the text of the complaint I
just filed with the Better Business Bureau of N.Y. about a "company"
from whom I ordered (I thought) a digital camera online.

---

I "placed" an order online for a Casio Digital Camera at
"OneClickDigital.com" on Monday, Sept. 18th. My subsequent investigation
on your website has shown that you have them under the name "Best Buy
Digital". They operate under many names.

I received an email on the 19th telling me I would have to "confirm my
order" by phone. The email didn't get through my spam filter until the
21st and I called them on that date. I was pressured (by lies and verbal
intimidation) to purchase an additional battery and memory card that I
didn't really want or need at (I found later) hugely inflated prices.

My Credit Card account shows a debit from "Ideal Photo & Video" for the
purchase amount in the early morning of the 22nd. I checked my “account
status” on their web site on 9/24 and it showed "pending", just as it
had since the 20th, the first time I checked.

I immediately emailed them on the 24th and demanded that they cancel my
order and refund my money since they had obviously not shipped the item.

I called them on the phone at 12:10pm PDT on 9/25 and demanded that they
cancel my order. I was told that the camera had shipped ON SEPTEMBER
20th. I asked for a tracking number and they told me it would be sent by
email.

I asked how it was being shipped and they said by U.S. Mail and that it
would take at least 7 to 14 days to arrive (even though when I
"confirmed" my order and they "upsold" me on the 21st I was told I was
getting priority shipping as part of the "deal").

I received a UPS tracking number by email at 2pm on 9/25. Today, the
26th, I finally got a return from that tracking number that said that
UPS had received a package in Brooklyn, NY at 7:25pm - AFTER I HAD
DEMANDED THAT THEY CANCEL MY ORDER and refund my money!!

Unfortunately, I didn't research this band of thieves until after I
ordered from them. From my research on the Internet about this company,
it appears that I'm getting the same runaround many others have gotten.
I'm going to ship the items back if I receive them because of the lies
and misrepresentations that conned me into buying accessories I didn't
want or need at seriously inflated prices and their subsequent lies and
misrepresentations.

--

Unfortunately, after they had already grabbed my money I found this
listing at the NYC BBB:

http://www.newyork.bbb.org/reports/businessreports.aspx?pid=44&pag

e=1&id=66089

Note that they do "business" under a variety of names so it took a while
to get the BBB listing. Don't do business with any of them!

These crooks are mentioned all over the internet. And these are only 2
of the names they use:

Chet,
You've probably done this already, but since you didn't mention it, here
goes:

Contact your credit card company to dispute the charge!

You can refuse delivery, thus UPS will have a continuous record of the
whereabouts of the package. Don't accept it and then ship it back yourself.
Sorry for jumping in with obvious advice, but I have a particular dislike
for the type of merchant you encountered.

I put together a map like the beer map we saw the other day for my old navy

Its pretty straight forward, but here's my question.
I don't have access to MySql on the free yahoo website.
Can I put a computer on the internet here at my house with this info and
then whenever anybody refreshes, it will automatically do a "select *, order
by ???" and send this xml file to the free yahoo site ??

I'm getting in uncharted territory here, my instincts tell me yes, but I'm
not sure how to do it

The map can be found at the website under my name under the link "USS W. S.

DBase Plus

2006-09-26 Thread Hal Kaplan
I have a bunch of DBase Plus tables that I need to modify. The IDE that
comes with DBase Plus is nowhere near the VFP IDE.

What I would like to do is bring in the DBase Plus files to VFP, make
the changes, and put the files back into the DBase Plus environment.

Anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this? Also, pitfalls and
best practices? Please?

TIA

Seems that we follow the Geneva Convention and we don't waste 190+ Taliban

So was it bin Laden?

Fwd: RE: Whitelist Request Regarding leafe.com

2006-09-26 Thread Pete Theisen
Hi Everybody!

I haven't been getting profox for a week. Finally I emailed Michael off-list
he said he was getting messages and suggested I contact my isp.

After an unbelievable run-around with Indian-accented phone people someone as
much as admitted that leafe.com email has been blacklisted from verizon.net.
I submitted a request that leafe.com be whitelisted. Oddly, I can still get
to the leafe.com and the archives.

Looking through the archives I can see nothing out of the ordinary to explain
the blacklisting and no one has successfully spammed the list in a long time.
From the message I received from verizon, however, they think they have
issues but they have not disclosed them to me.

Anyway, I miss you guys - even the liberal Ds.

Regards,

Pete

I received an email on the 19th telling me I would have to "confirm my

I immediately emailed them on the 24th and demanded that they cancel my
order and refund my money since they had obviously not shipped the item.

I called them on the phone at 12:10pm PDT on 9/25 and demanded that they
cancel my order. I was told that the camera had shipped ON SEPTEMBER
20th. I asked for a tracking number and they told me it would be sent by

Chet,
You've probably done this already, but since you didn't mention it, here

The other side has a point of view that's been squished for too long in
this country. There was a time when Israel had my sympathy, but over the
years I've noticed time and time again how disproportionately (that is
the operative word) pro-Israel passions are represented in our media and
politics, and that really turned me off. It's too much, it's out of
control, and Israel needs - as Colin Powell put it - to be reigned in.

This war, and Israel's rabid supporters in the US who were part and
parcel of launching it, is one of the greatest errors this country has
ever made, and now it's going to be Hell to pay to get past it.

A major part of our getting past it is in coming to terms with those
forces in our media and gov't. The neocon ringleaders - including the
greedy, selfish bastards in the MI complex and Big Oil - need to be put
on trial for war crimes, AIPAC needs to be stood up to, Big Media needs
to be busted up, and we've got to rescue our democracy from the clutches
of Big Money.

I sympathize with the many peace-loving people in Israel, they are among
the many victims of the belligerent, arrogant protagonists who have led
them into this morass. I hope to see them rise up and replace their
rulers with leaders who will do what it takes to make peace with their
neighbors. And they need to do this urgently, because the forces against
them are building towards a climax that none of us wants to see.

There are no perfect heroes. They don't exist. Instead there are people
who, somehow or the other, rise above their own weaknesses to make their

When Clinton was first elected, I thought he was going to be laughed out
of office over his sex antics. Given the media's obsession with anything
"sex" and his own history, it seemed he was dead meat out of the gate,
and ...

But now I look at him and see an older man who has been through some
fires, has survived, and if he has managed to control his demons, it's
possible he's ready for prime time. He was always very smart, nobody
questioned that, but he had a gaping hole in the wisdom dept.

I'm not going to rush to judgment, but I will listen to what else he has
to say. That he showed disdain for Murdoch's Fox "news" was quite
heartening, and a surprise, actually, because I had read somewhere that
Hillary was hooked up with Murdoch, which caused me to write her - and
him - off as useless.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this one event, but if that was a shot
across the neocon ship's bow, I definitely want to see the next round.

I think that any POV that claims it all to be the fault of one side
or the other is going to fall woefully short of the truth. Regardless
of who you believe "started it", that happened generations ago, and
the only way to proceed is to look at the present situation and
figure out how to move ahead. IMO, both sides leave a lot to be

Pros & cons of append procedures as a dbc_OpenData event

2006-09-26 Thread Lew Schwartz
Any strong opinions to share out there? I'd like all this stuff in an
external file in case the dbc gets trashed. The only problem I see is
the nusiance of having to close/open database before changes take
effect. I have suitable precompiler directives in place to prevent the
code from firing in a distributed compile.

Re: oop data entry form

2006-09-26 Thread MB Software Solutions

Andy Davies wrote:

Yup, he was right and I was wrong - I had the rowsource as aMydata instead
of thisform.aMydata - and instantiating the busobj/dataobj in the form load
(as suggested by Michael Babcock) also works - although I'm working towards
something more elegant than' thisform.[oBiz.]oData.cMyText' that does work
just fine.

There's a couple different ways you could do it: you could bring back
an object to the UI layer and make it a part of a record object there
(so the controlsource is thisform.oRecord.cName, for example), or you
could create the record object in the Biz layer and have your UI map to
that (so the controlsource for this example would be
thisform.oBiz.oRecord.cName if you brought the object back to the Biz,
or thisform.oBiz.oData.oRecord.cName if you so choose to do it that
way). There are so many ways to do it with the Fox in many
things...this is another prime example. For me personally, I don't like
to couple things or make dependencies; that's why I basically pass the
record object among the tiers. Loose coupling facilitates easier
testing, imo, and offers more flexibility, recalling the best practice
of programming to the interface, not the implementation.
