VAL()

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how VAL() works? Why is it that when you do a
VAL('701E960') you get a numeric overflow error, but when you do
VAL('701D960'), you don't?

"Val() converts nearly all character strings to numbers—the only
problem is that some of these numbers may be beyond the range FoxPro
can actually work with. Val("1E+307") creates a numeric without an
error message, but this value cannot be stored in a numeric, double,
float or integer field, nor can you do much useful processing on it.
If you are converting character data to numeric in your applications,
you need to range-check the result to ensure you are working with
legitimate numbers."

It's still playing with fire. Since IE and its rendering engines
(HTML, XML, GIF, etc.) and its runtime engines (Flash, JavaScript,
Java, VBScript) are "an intrinsic part of the operating system," it
difficult to firewall all of that functionality from being invoked. So
many applications invoke part of IE (HTML Help, Explorer, Active
Desktop) that leaving any of it not patched to the latest version is a
liability.

However, maybe I could run it in a VM without any access to the
network or Internet. I don't use the online banking features, so I
might get away with that. Thanks for the idea, Ken!

Typematic rate in List Box

2006-11-06 Thread Philip B
Hi all,
What is the setting that controls how long VFP waits for you to key in
the first several characters in a list box to navigate to the closest match?
I have an app that was working so that the user could type in 3 or 4 of
the first characters before the list box adjusted down to the closest
match. Now they have a newer, faster computer and it moves on the first
character typed...

Hi Michael!

Now, now. This is what Ds are and what they do. We should be used to it by
now.

We have a whole bunch of lawyers watching the polls here. Catch most of them
red handed. No one prosecutes, though, just void the ballot.

Hi Pete.
Well I'm not a lawyer nor a detective nor a historian. But it is common
