Wow, do I have to spell it out? Maybe you should go back to school.
OK. Argument was: There must be something wrong with the picture if
Castro's dictatorship is intolerable, yet you list all these glorious
achievements his dictatorship allegedly achieved.

I suspect that "something wrong" is your inability to grasp the
illogic of your argument, combined with the unreality of this great
list of achievements. (How and earth can you trust the statistics of
a brutal dictatorship that murders dissenters and impoverishes its
people and in general controls all information flow coming out of
it?) Anyway.

I threw Leland into the mix because he and I have a long history of
jovial ad hominem banter, and now that I'm "back" I feel obligated to
catch up a bit. Leland at least is earnest and good-spirited, and
enjoys dishing it out too.

In other words, he's not just thick-headed, but thick-skinned too. ;-)

I see you like to dish it out, but I'm not so sure about "earnest and
good-spirited" or "thick-skinned"---but I'm sure if I really knew you
I'd like you too. There are actually very few people I don't like on
some level for some reason.

Hi Again, Ricardo!

Come to think of it, if you did post in Spanish it might add interest to the
list, and perhaps draw new participants. Since your posts are relatively
short, you could even do bilingual without being excessively long.

However, *I* do not know enough Spanish to be one of the Spanish participants.

Yep! Small island, with the greatest world power waging economic war
against it. Yet they have some of the best Hospital and medical
treatments, very high alphabetization, very high education rates.
And if you consider that when it belonged to the 'Free World' it was
just a 'back yard brothel', there's nothing much to say about it.

That said, I should point out that I don't like Castro's dictatorship.

Hi Bob!

"Not a peep" (sometimes "nary a peep") is an idiom, although I can't remember
anyone younger than 60 using it. I'm diabetic and not much of a drinker,
also, I am shockingly liberal on economics - you guys might not like me :-)

Incidentally the degree to which Democrats have managed to transfer
their collective neuroses entirely to one person -- the person of
George W. Bush -- is truly a mass-psychological phenomenon. It
eclipses even the good ol' days of Clinton bashing, which I fondly
recall. I mean, I never hated the man to the core of my being, like
these people hate Dubya, I just found him absurd and embarrassing.
Hell I find Bush absurd and embarrassing, especially when attempting
to speak off the cuff on camera, but I don't think he's either stupid
or evil. And I never meditated on his potential assassination or
wished America would lose in Kosivo over my beliefs about his character.

Someone supposedly so stupid and so evil duped so many people who
consider themselves so smart and so righteous---how do they look
themselves in the mirror, I wonder?

Hate and lust for power ooze out of everything Reid says and Pelosi
does.

(Seriously---she'll go across the world to visit Bashir Assad, and
offer idly to visit with Adolf Amadinutjob---but doesn't have time to
meet General Patraeus before a vote basically telling him he's full
of sh*t?)

In all seriousness, that half our population has forgotten --
literally forgotten -- our collective complicity in debating whether
to invade Iraq not once, but twice, and accepting the argument of pre-
emption (not "immanent threat" as some like to recast the past) as
sufficient grounds to do what we did on a large BIPARTISAN basis
means we're about due for another reminder what that was all about.

The current whining, however, is over the administration's use of the

That's a good point. Unfortunately most of the Left
want the United States to cease to exist in favor of

Re: [OT] Signs of the Times

2007-04-26 Thread Leland F. Jackson, CPA
I had to do some research on this. It is against the law for anyone to
conspire to overthrow the US government by force or violence.

Here are a few links on the matter:

http://www.answers.com/topic/smith-act

http://www.mscode.com/free/statutes/97/007/0071.htm

http://www.propagandamatrix.com/260903ronpaul.html

Well, I'm having trouble finding any cases where an American President
ran for office under false pretext, and after elected silently began
nipping away at the US form of government; moving the government towards
a ruling one party state. I believe the Bush Administration has been
working very hard behind the scene and very secretly to essentially
overthrow our traditional Democratic/Constitutional form of government.
This wouldn't meet the definition of "overthrow of the government by
violence or force, but it would produce the same result by means of
treachery and deceit. Of all the weapon in the world, the most
dangerous weapons of all are treachery and deceit.

If the Bush Administration, the Neocons, and some members of the Radical
Religious Righters were working toward a goal of establishing a new form
of government for the "New American Century", what do you think the
punishment should be?

Regards,

LelandJ
