Looking at these issues, and the fact that you repeatedly emphasize that
you do the work in your free time, I would suggest you to ask the board
to support the work, so that the most can be done in a project by
someone having normal time to do it. And that your, of course fully
understandable limited availability, is no longer a bottle neck. The
site is important enough for such a move, IMO.

> I created a new test website, that runs on a new shiny Plone 5.0:

Thanks for that, of course :)
Few remarks:
1) I was thinking about advantage when the split
Home | Extensions | Templates
is removed. Extensions are the landing page, for what the very vast
majority comes to the site.
A clear Instructions somewhere will be OK for people.

2) The search top-right is fine, but it is not clear that that is the
way to search for an extension..

3) Nearly two years ago we made a functional design for some pages.
Can you give an update (wiki?) on the status of the current work in
relation to that design?

Thanks a lot,
Cor

The theming one.
The exttemptest-site has the disadvantage that it still shows the odd
home page, where there is no extension ;)
On the new theming one "Browse Extension by Category" is better visible
and nice to use. But "Most recent Extension" and other stuff may use so
much vertical space, that "Browse" is out of site.

Yes, I could not loggin on the theming site.
Works now, after I recieved the request. thanks.

On the other hand it's good to have the initiative with the people
themselves. Little tasks do help people becoming involved.

But two ideas:
a. it could be an option that, upon request, those mails are
automatically sent to some NL lists. To be decided by the NL group.

b. a short summary on top/ bottom of announcements and such, may help to
translate just that and send it (with the full English text) to the NL
list(s).

OTOH, it might also be an advantage when people see the international

I've seen some remarks (in a glance) from people on the Dutch list, that

Apparently people with considerable experience in this field.

Would it be helpful to ask them specific examples with our survey, so

Using Alien I guess?
Note that in our very early days (hmm, you were not here at that time ;)

But if a workflow with alien is available by default, reasonable fast

Note
though that at least for Ubuntu the PPAs are really quick and allow you to keep
control of your deployment plan for major releases (e.g. the libreoffice-4-0

Great of course, but that will only cover part of the needs & wishes I

Indeed. One nuance though is that it would not be about keeping

term (officially , there are only "communities" and no native-language
project here).

Then I would say "LibreOffice native-language communities" / "NLC"

I think the same but it seems not everyone does, and people expect
structure...

What is expected that a structure would deliver?
Money from TDF for activities? Acknowledgement that helps the NLC with

Ah, so not how each native-language project should call itself :-)

If people that contacted you/board on the issue did not deliver a

native-language project".
Simply because I have no better idea. Sorry., I mean: how else make
something comprehensive, compact and nice sounding from "support,
marketing, testing and localization"?

And the structure...? Isn't it enough if we try to listen, cooperate and
support each other?
For me that is more important then if group X from language/region Y is
a foundation, society, informal team, two people, er even a sub-entity
of TDF.

And as for the names they use, see below.

Ah well, of course it is technical compared to what many people are used

I look forward to the outcome of the Litmus/MozTrap evaluation and

Evaluation of the current situation showed some lack of available time

2012-03-27 Thread Cor Nouws

Hi Bjoern, all,

Thanks for taking minutes Bjoern :-)

Additions from me on few points.

Bjoern Michaelsen wrote (25-03-12 00:34)

  * pending action items
   [...]
   - collect further ideas for spending a dedicated resource (Cor/Rainer)

Cor & Rainer propose to look at extending possibilities for querying
commenters in bugZilla.

   - automated test docs: really straightforward for Calc, just needs more
 CSV test documents (all)
 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47667

I thought that related to this we talked about contacting experts in the
community in e.g. the area of charts.

  * structured manual testing: (Yifan, Rimas, Bjoern)
[...]
- Litmus proposal at:

http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Libreoffice-qa-Litmus-a-proposal-td3845560.html

My take on this:
- Oour QA people already are very active plus having enough area's in
mind, that they would love to spend extra time on.
So posting extra lists of interesting areas to the QA team or asking
their attention in other way's, will not help that much for now.
- Apart from that, there is the risk of pseudo certainty when extra
attention is given to clear work-areas/features mentioned by devs/read
from the commit logs. Since work is ongoing in so many areas, that
possibly have influence all over the product.
- What does make sense, is having indeed a list of areas that can be
clearly pointed at, and to mention them in a sort of standard post on
our official TDF blog. E.g. every two weeks 4 to 8 items and guiding
users interested to test in these area's to the daily builds.
Thus we make use of the idea and information, and help growing the QA
team, which IMNSHO is the most important issue now.

This is in the minutes:

(If we greenlight that, it spawns a lot of action items ;) )
  - essentially means devs drop oneliners with affected area for commits
along with review requests to the list (Bjoern)
  - Devs are already overcommited with their current tasks (Petr)
  - QA even more so given their current resources (Cor)
  - whatever form of communication/workflow we set up, we should trying it
on the release branch first, becaus of commit volume (Bjoern)
  - this info really should be in the commit messages (Petr/Kendy?)
  - otherwise we should make it a custom for devs to CC the QA-list as we
do with ux-advise, which works reasonably well (Petr)
AA - propose proactive QA-list CCing on ESC (Bjoern)
  - as long as Litmus is not easily accessable this is pretty much in vain
  - alternative: Wiki or Blog instead of Litmus?
  - Blog, not Wiki (broader audiences) (Kendy?)
AA - Blog regularly about affected areas with call for testing (Cor/Bjoern?)

So I would suggest the action items:
AA - propagate clear commit messages to recognise features/
 functional area's (Petr)
 (I suggested t
AA - Blog regularly about these areas with call for testing
 (Cor/Bjoern?)
(Of course this only is going to work when there are clear
  items to mention)
The also mentioned action items for CC-ing QA list by devs is important
too, IMO, but will have effect more in the bit distant future.

  * community building/communication (Cor)
[...]

I outlined my ideas on this before. See the last part of this mail:

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/2012-March/001345.html
In that area, the next AA is related:

AA - kindly ask them to introduce themselves on the QA-list or even blog
about (both developer interview style) (Cor/Bjoern)

Cheers,

Thanks for organising & the minutes.

attendants: Cor, Ivan, Rainer, Markus, Michael, Korrawit, Petr, Kendy, Bjoern

   - bugwrangling
 - still too much old regressions (Rainer)
   - 60 (11 most annoying) from earlier releases

I see there has been good discussion on this on the dev list, with all
people understanding both the importance of this topic and working on
improvement as far as reasonable.

 - proposed mitgation:
more viciously and realistically downgrade priority, we need to support
   Rainers decisions there

Indeed. I've never seen a wrong decision from Rainer there.
If there is any discussion/doubt in a certain case, discussing it here
or on irc is always OK. (However, in case of discussion it's obviously
best to let the devs take the final decision.)

   - community building/communication:
AA - Find and empower new active QA contributors (Cor)

Ah well, I will do my part of that, but it's not SMART to put just me
for that AA: that will not lead to a _R_eliable solution in a reasonable
_T_ime-frame.
Having that said: I mentioned the idea that it might be possible to get
names from bugzilla, from people that are more active in triage, and
that we can encourage to 'team up' with us.
Talking about that, we had the idea to look at the queries that are
already available and may be useful for others to.

AA - Provide Cor with suitable queries (Rainer)

Rainer did send it already. Will have a look at that.

   - Note: We can currently only query for Reporters not commenters (Rainer)

For the rest the minutes mention the good ideas we have for promoting etc.
I see my name with some AA's
I'll try to do some in the second half of this week.

Next call will be in two weeks on:

  Friday, 2012-03-23 15:00 UTC

I'll try to join.

Regards,

I don't know.
If we really start at this moment two things can happen:
1. Many people are bugfixing at a long time from the beginning to the
end (would be good)
2. The people look at irc and nothing will happen at the start. They
switch off. (would be bad)

Someone have to start the bughunting session official. Who is it on
28-12 00:00 UTC -12?

At the start (first two/three hours) there should be a critical mass of
competent people (IMHO 5-10). Will we have this on 28-12 00:00 UTC -12?
And of course there should be always traffic.

And we should have a little official close on 29-12 24:00 +12. I.e.
someone will close the bug hunting session official and says thanks to
all volunteers and will call out a toast for the big bug hunting.

Should be organized.

Agree.
What do people think from 28-12 9:00 UTC until 29-12 22:00 UTC ?

2011-12-09 Thread Cor Nouws

Hi all,

This is to inform you that soon a bug-hunting session may be expected.

Theme: " Make version 3.5.0 a great one! "

The goal is obviously that we want to find bugs in the LibreOffice 3.5.0
beta soon, so that they can be fixed soon too :-)

When: depending on the coming beta1 release, the two day's session will
be December 16 and 17 or maybe December 28 and 29.

Technical details and support are discussed at the qa list.
Publicity will be discussed at the marketing list.
All kind of info is here:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Improving_QA-Release-3.5

But of course *most important of all* inform the people in your team and
network, so that they won't miss this event!

Thanks a lot :-)

Indeed, after the discussion today it's obvious that we must wait until
we know that the beta1 is OK for such a larger test.

You could organize it for the weekend Dec 17-18.

Yes, in that case, it is a good choice.
Preparations can be done soon, even some pre-announcements in smaller
public, so that all is ready when we decide to start it.

I think that Dec 23 is not a good choice
because it is just one day before Christmas :-)

:-) 23 is the date that the beta2 is about to be released. Therefore I
mentioned it.
When we choose that it is better to go with beta2 for testing in the
larger group, we have to choose some dates between Christmas and
December 30. But that's something for later, maybe.

Anyway, thanks a lot for working on it.

You're welcome. All pleasure is on my side ;-)

I agree with that. It's great to have the possibility to do some rough
tests right now, so that we can be sure that, when the wide public wants
to start testing, they actually are able to start :-)

But since we are still not at feature-freeze, and there are chunks of
things that need to go in yet that may de-stabilise, I start becoming a
bit reluctant in already announcing a big bug-hunting party for the
beta1 and thinking about beta2, due December 23 ..

I would like to try to organize a first session of manual tests -
release scenarios - on Litmus [1]. Mostly to see how it goes and fine
tune what needs to be done to go further. We need to push our QA process
further and log what is done in the language community.
[...]

Thanks a lot for this :-)
Just created an account and is gives me this welcome
" Thank you for your contribution to Mozilla QA. " ;-)

I'll translate the wiki-info and poke some people on the Dutch language
lists to take a look too.

If we have any questions, we know where to find you :-)

Cheers,

Mail Merge becomes a necessary tool in many cases and not always is
used to create a letter or email as the wizard says. I think achieving
the mentioned task using LibreOffice needs to be a easier.
That's why I'd like to propose:
* Rename: As the name seems to condition the application
functionality, DataMerge or InfoMerge would be more appropriate and
provides the idea of greater functionality.

No opinion yet, sorry.

* Advanced Editing: If I'm not writing a letter, why should I assign
fields? an option to skip the wizard and include fields manually would
be welcome.

Already is there: drag the header of a column from a table in the datasource
window (F4) or use Insert>Fields>More ... tab Database.

Yes, but I need to get to step 6 to do so. An option to avoid the
wizard in step 3 could prevent this.

No, both possibilities work without the wizard.

Furthermore, the last step of the wizard saves the merged document.
What happens if I need to edit base document for any omission? Or
change the location of the fields?

Most easy for me always is:
- create document/template
- add fields (see my tips above)
- start the wizard and step to 8 immediately.
Have document and/or data changed? Just the Wizard and step 8 do the job.

All this I have raised are issues that arise in the school where I
work, where teachers are comfortable using MSOffice.

Ah, great task for you to make them learn the advantages of the
LibreOffice way ;-) :
No need to link documents to sources. Just drag the fields from the
datasource in. Of have a textblock (autotext) with fields ..

Best,
Cor
