RE: Pro Tools 101. Was, Re: What lossless formats will Pro Tools handle on import?
I'm taking the class at the university which is certified to admin the official course. Wes, we are using the official course book for the course. It is brand new from Avid on the 27th of December 2010. Getting the book in accessible format has been a beast so far. I'm using a Command 8 to assist me over the humps in the road so far. I'll keep you posted. I'd like to actually do the complete course set and get the certificate but we shall see. LOL Best, J. R. If so, can you please keep us posted as to what parts of the requirements cause you to ddelve into inaccessible parts of PT? Are you actually using the 101 official courseware? I'm thinking of doing that course myself and going to an official pro tools school to take the tests. Would love to get your take on thins so far. Please keep us posted on this. Thanks so much. Kevin Hi all, I'm doing an assignment for my Pro Tools 101 class and have to import a number of tracks, clip segments from them, butt splice them together, and bounce the result back to disk as an mp3 file. I then have to take that result and cross fade the segments into each other and bounce that to disk. I can import the files directly from CD if needed but have all of them already in FLAC format. That format appears to give the Mac fits. Does Pro Tools handle this format? Is there another lossless format that would be better? I ask because I'm having to re-do all my CDs for my broadcasting anyway and would like to have a format that is compatible between the systems. Sorry if this is a bit far afield. Thanks, J. R.

Edit and Playback Timelines are linked. The only step I seemed to be missing was hitting the enter key after inputting the numbers. Now it works like a charm. Thank you. Re: selecting with the slash key
Hey Herman, The only thing I can think of is that it sounds like your Edit and Playback Timelines are not linked for some reason. Look under the Options menu and double check that they're linked. If you're uncertain about where you are in the cycle, just know that you'll always land on the Start first after hitting slash. So, if you're uncertain, simply press Enter and who cares what's in the field. Re-enter the values. first press of the slash key is the first field of the start. Decimal moves you through the fields associated with bars, beats, ticks, etc. Or, if you were uncertain about the End, press slash twice and you'll be in the End edit fields. Most importantly, from the first press of the slash key, you're in Start and if you get lost, press enter first and then start over again by pressing slash. Hope that helps, Slau On Feb 23, 2011, at 3:50 PM, HF wrote: > I see the correct numbers being put in but when playing back the selection, > it's not exactly what I selected. Re: What lossless formats will Pro Tools handle on import?
Hey J R, I think you'll be better off just ripping the CD tracks using iTunes. Just rip them into AIF and you won't have any problem importing them into Pro Tools. One thing you'll need to be aware of is that you'll have to specify the destination as a track. In other words, instead of just importing the files to the session, you should import them into new tracks. They will appear in alphabetical order according to the name of the tracks on the CD or perhaps the number of the track depending on how your iTunes is set up to rip. After performing your edits on each individual track, you should create a new stereo track and use it as a place to paste the segments you've edited. HTH, Slau On Feb 23, 2011, at 9:54 AM, J. R. What lossless formats will Pro Tools handle on import?
Hi all, I'm doing an assignment for my Pro Tools 101 class and have to import a number of tracks, clip segments from them, butt splice them together, and bounce the result back to disk as an mp3 file. Thanks, J. R.
Re: Safe to buy second hand Digi 003?
Hey Ronald, Well, if you already have PT 9, then it doesn't matter as far as software is concerned. regarding the hardware, I think you might have to call Avid about that. It probably has more to do with upgrades, if you take them when they offer them so it might not be so important. Again, give Avid a call and they could probably explain it. slau On Feb 23, 2011, at 8:37 AM, RvR wrote: > Slau, was supposed to be all with double l, so you also [smile] > Pro Tools is included, although I already bought PT9, hope the 003 is not > linked to that particular Pro tools? Re: Safe to buy second hand Digi 003?
Hi Ronald, I'm not sure who Al is but I just thought I'd chime in to say there's no control that is specifically prone to failure on the 003 from what I understand. You might want to make sure that there's a valid copy of Pro Tools attached to the sale and it might be a good idea to transfer ownership within Avid's database. slau On Feb 23, 2011, at 7:53 AM, RvR wrote: > Hi al, need your advice. > I can buy a second hand Digi 003 Factory for 750 euro from a private seller. > He says it's hardly used, for what it's worht. > It has no more warranty. Safe to buy second hand Digi 003?
Hi al, need your advice. I can buy a second hand Digi 003 Factory for 750 euro from a private seller. He says it's hardly used, for what it's worht. It has no more warranty. Are there parts that are weak and should I pay attention to when looking at it? Many thanks! Ronald
Re: Factory 003
There are two manuals that are already installed which you should read. You can also download them from Avid. It's a lot, give yourself time. It does make sense after a while. I realize that it is mostly do to my lack of knowledge about protools and the 003. The 003 has a arm button which I thought would arm the tracks that you selected in protools. But, it does not seem to work that way. I still have to go into each track in protools and arm them. does anyone know of a comprehensive manual that explains the 003 and how it works with protools?
