Thank you much for the podcast, I found it very informative. I have a
question though, does any one know any thing about PT accessibility on a
windows PC?

thanks much

Subject: An informal Podcast regarding Pro Tools.

Hey folks. While cleaning my apartment at 4 in the morning, I turned on the
iPod and did about an hour or so worth of stream of consciousness chatting
regarding Pro Tools. I go through it's back story on how we got where we are
now, and tried to answer the 2 main questions that everyone's posing right
now.

1. How accessible is it, ie, what can I do with it.

2. How much better or worse is it than Sonar.

I think that a tutorial is important, but like everyone else, the time it
takes is really daunting. So, for now, I'm gonna throw up some really
informal things just to get some dialog started. Maybe I'll even do some
quick recording of me working on a session so that folks can get an idea of
how Pro Tools operates in a real world situation. This might be better than
trying to plan out a huge tutorial. At least this would give potential
switchers a chance to hear it in action, allow me to discuss what I'm doing
while I'm doing it, and be able to see what I'm able to accomplish. But for
now, enjoy this discussion. It will be appearing on Blind Cool Tech soon.
I've uploaded it to their servers.

http://kevinreeves.net/InformalProToolsTalk.mp3.

Thanks so much, and I hope this sort of sheds some light for folks who have
not yet made the decision to get a rig.

Hi list,

has anyone tried bfd 2 by fx expansion by any chance?

I see it's got extensive support for the akai mpd series , one of which i have.

THere's something which seems commonly lacking in all DAWs and accessibility, a
good drum kit module with notational capacities. Wherever i go right now, i get
this brick wall. Garage band, logic, now somewhat pro tools though its related
to a lack of experience.

Hoping i can find a workaround to start creating my ambients and electro beats.

Hi
I think the installer on that pt 8. disc for: Structure Free ": is
messed up.
After 2 hours of tech support with sweetwater sweetcare trying to
get : Structure Free installed the tech gave up and got me a free 1
time tech support with Avid.
It took the Avid tech over a period of 2 weeks of pt crashing when
trying to use : Structure Free to get it straight.
After 2 digi deliveries of the : Structure Free The first one was the
wrong Structure Free from the tech.

we finally got it working last friday.
You need sighted assistance currently unless you use "quickkeys" to
get to the : Structure Free patches.

So far the patches sound good!
there are only 63 patches included with : Structure Free! LOL

Hi Slau,
If you read the whole first couple of post this was in mind!
You don't need to use this method if you get that vertical splitter
moved over to the right.

It all becomes available when this is done.
Lets help each other get a work floe going!

If you don't move the vertical splitter over to the right about 30%
you can not drag or use command click to select meltable tracks.
Of course you need sighted assistance to use the mouse to click and
drag the vertical splitter over to the right!
Thats why my templates all have the vertical splitter for the
tracks table moved 30% % to the right to make the visual and the
other basic track moving stuff available in every session i do from

As long as the tracks are showing you can use "control ;" and
or "control shift ;" to move the track selection down in the
tracks.
You can also use "control shift p " to move up maintaining
the selection of the track you started on.
This makes it easy to select any tracks that are showing in
the session.
These track selections are reflected "shown" in the tracks

I discovered this when moving a selection from 1 track to
another in the mix window.

Re: Alternative way to get tracks selected with out a controller.// Dragging tracks in the track table.

2011-03-20 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hey Chuck,

I read pretty much every single post here. OK, as clearly as you can, tell me
precisely what is not available if one does not move the vertical splitter. I'm
all for helping each other but I do think things need to be perfectly clear in
order for us all to be on the same page.

Again, just to be perfectly clear on my end, I maintain that, with "Link Track
and Edit Selection" checked under the Options menu, one can extend the
insertion point through multiple tracks and the extension of the insertion
cursor has been supported in Pro Tools since version 5. The Linking of Track
and Edit Selection has been supported since at least version 8 if not sooner.

I've pasted your original post below:

> I came across this when I was in a session & the mix window had not had the
> tracks table vertical splitter moved to the right 30%.
> As long as the tracks are showing you can use "control ;" and or "control

'chuck, first of all, what does moving the insertion point have to do with your
having moved the vertical splitter?
I now see, thanks to Frank, that this was essentially a continuation of a
discussion on selecting tracks without a control surface that was started on a
conference call. Your subject makes mention of control surface but your message
doesn't. For those of us who can't always attend the conference calls, it might
be helpful to say, within the body of the message, something like, "for those
without a control surface, an alternate means of selecting tracks is to Make
sure 'Link Track and Edit selection' is checked under the Options menu and use
the Control-semicolon and Control-p commands to move the insertion point from
track to track and using the shift modifier to extend the selection." That, at
least to anyone reading the message, would be pretty clear.
Lastly, I still don't understand what the "discovery" is. Were you simply not
aware of this until recently? Well then, that would explain your message.
However, it would be kind of surprising since we've mentioned this very idea of
moving the insertion while track and edit selection are linked several times on
the list. Perhaps you missed those messages.

Our mileages clearly vary, eh?

Best,

Slau
