Re: Ventage

2016-04-05 Thread Kevin Reeves
That synthesizer is called a fairlight CMI. It was the very first sampling
computer music system. Asfar as vintage synths for ProTools, I don't really
know because most of that work I end up doing in reaper anyway. There are way
more VST and Au plug-ins freely available than AAX. This is a licensing issue
with Avid. It actually costs money for companies to make plug-ins compatible
with a a X. Therefore, a lot of these really small companies don't make free
or low-cost plug-ins for ProTools which are actually quite good. A prime
example is the line of GSI plug-ins that emulate be three, roads, and a clan.
Those are the best I've ever heard, but I can't get them in ProTools. The
minute avid allows VST and Au plugs in ProTools, then the plug-in market would
open up.

Hello From The UK

2016-04-05 Thread Phil Muir
Hi all!

Firstly thanks to Slau and others who have pushed accessibility in Pro Tools
on the Mac side. It really is appreciated!

Thought I should introduce myself. My name is Phil Muir and I work
primarily as a mixing and mastering engineer/session musician. I would
describe myself as a Sonar 8.5.3 power user :-) I also do a bit of access
technology training and have from time to time made music technology
products accessible on the Windows side such as ToonTracks Superior Drummer
2. For more information on that, checkout:

http://www.accessibilitytraining.co.uk/superior.html

I am now running a couple of mid 2012 13 and 15 inch Mac's here and have
updated my Pro Tools from 10 to 12.5 as really want to get a feel for what
is achievable in PT.

I have read with interest the short thread that Sean Cummins started about
us being in a brave new world. Shall have to check but just because
ToonTrack tell us they are not planning to make Superior Drummer 2
accessible on the Mac side, doesn't mean that it can't be done. Am planning
to purchase Keyboard Maestro and see just how far I can push access to
Superior Drummer 2. I am under no elusion that this will be easy. It won't
because as am sure you all know, Voiceover ether can see screen elements or
it can't and in the case of Superior Drummer 2, it can't so the only way we
will get this going is with some sighted help. Also would like to see if I
can make the Focusrite Saffire control panel accessible on the Mac side that
is assuming someone hasn't done that already. Already created a solution
for that on Windows with the Jaws screen reader and HotSpotClicker. Anyway,
shall close for now.

Phil,
As far as I know, the sapphire mix control has not been made accessible on the

made accessible. Welcome to the list.

Hi Phil and welcome. Keep us posted on your progress. With sighted assistance
on the plug-in front, you'll find Keyboard Maestro mildly challenging but, for
creating clicks relative to window positions, it shouldn't be too difficult,

Hey Slau. The challenge with regard to Superior Drummer 2 may be coding up
a robust solution. For example, when using pads in Superior Drummer 2, in
order to get that reliable every time, the HsC set first clicks the
Cunstruction view Window then, the classic view Window in order to get the
pads to appear at the correct place on screen. Finally the pad in question
is brought into focus. This is all accessed in a fake tab order that is
navigable with Alt control plus tab and shift tab respectively. Not even
sure if doing something like this would be possible with Keyboard Maestro.
One way to find out I guess ;-)

RE: Hello From The UK

2016-04-05 Thread Phil Muir
Another potential issue could be screen resolution. Am guessing that's
different depending on which Mac you have? Could work around that one on
Windows by getting everyone to use the same screen resolution although that
wasn't exactly optimal. However, it did mean that my solution for Superior
Drummer 2, works well across systems.

Hi Matt.

Hmm how did you manage it?
I contacted Indaba Music and they send me a direct URL to grab the
zip. Here's a direct link from my Sendspace Pro account, in case
anyone wants to grab it and have a play:

Re: Hello From The UK

2016-04-05 Thread peter
Hi Phil,

Welcome to the list. Getting more plugins accessible and even instruments
shoud be a nice goal. That trick with fixed screen stuff,
won't work I think, but need to see some test before I come back.
When you open a plugin and interact with that area, and no controls are found.
That will be a challange to make this accessible. Keyboard maestro, I need to
tkae a look at it.
And maybe we find an algoritme that compute the position of an element
when the screen size wasn't the same on the original machien.

Phil, does you have a demo version for mac so I can take alook at how voiceover
will respond? :)

There for I'm thinking to bring up a site with some Goals:

First of all, why accessibility is imported and try to tear down
the missunderstanding that making apps accessible is a huge cost.
In some situations it may be, but by starting a new project, take a look
to the accessibility ifnromation on Apple developer pages. I'm not that into
Windows programming, so don't know if they provide good documentation.
Ok, I'm also a drummer and want to bring my musical idea's
outside my head.

The goal should be that an app or plug should be useable, nog perfect
accessible.
See what happend in those days that Smartphone became more accessible.
We thought we would never use a touch screen. And to be honest I bought my
first Iphoen when it came out in 2009 the Iphone 3gs. And all of the sudden,
Icame
from a native Linux user to a mac, iphoen, ipad, watch workflow.

For my work, I still use linux consoe in (vmware) to do my main job.
Configureing firewalls, switches, routers, servers in a datacenter, even
programming in some language. You have way more overview when using braille on
linux
then on any other platform.

Ok back to the topic. So What I will say, teechnology is going fast.
If the guys that make those software are aware of accessibility and with no so
much work.
Hopefully we will see improvements.

We can group some nice guys that just are beta testers and give them positive
feedback.

I know Slau does this with some other guuy and that is great,
but when we can create a hole community, that can be have more impact.

Second thing: Not only software and plugins should benice to have access to
but also instruments. There are a few, but not for all functions they provide.
Ik can write an article of the Roland 2d-25kv, mauybe also td-15kv
And if a friend @ Roland belenux will provide me a test unit of the td30.

The 3th part, shoud be:
list of accessible daws with links wher you can find more info.
Pro Tools has a link to the protoolswithspeech.com website.
* not only plugins
Audio or Video review or an article on tips to use some kind of gear.

When this portal is alive and I think it will take some time.

Then we need it to promote it over facebook twitter and such,
Ask people to like Accessible music creation, production 4 all.
With a link to our website.

Sorry for this long mail, but I realy want to start on this.

Domain, server in a very good data center, ipv4 ipv6 space
and enough tb's free

Glad to hear your opinions and thoughts.

Have a nice day

With kind regards,

Peter Durieux

Ivory Italian grand Pianos: Wonderful wonderful wonderful news!

2016-04-05 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Guys, I am not at liberty at this point to reveal any names, but let's jsut say
after advocating for all of us in the blind community, I may have a big
surprise for all of you.

There is no guarantee, but I'd say at this point I can give you all a 98%
chance that within the next week or two, not only should we have custom presets
made for Synthogy Ivory's Italian Grand Pianos, but we should have a zip file
with all the current presets, and even the new Italian Grands which will be
placed in an accessibility link upon the Synthogy homepage so that users going
forward will have a direct accessible way to get at these things.

Call me the squeaky wheel, but I'm working with someone pretty high up from
Synthogy. That's really all I'm at liberty right now to say, but he/she is
incredibly confident that we can get this done at no expense to any of us, so,
how about a little thank you to your's truely. LOL! Just kidding! You
believe I'll keep you guys posted! I'm so excited about this!

If you forget that in the future, notice the unsubscribe email at the bottom of
any message from the list which says "ptaccess+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com" so
just substitute the word "subscribe."
