Looking for a really really specific vocal effect. Please help ASAP
OK, I unfortunately don't have anything on YOutube or the like where I can actually demonstrate this and let you hear an example, but I think I can textually describe this well enough with a popular enough song that 99.9 percent of you should be able to follow this with ease. I'm doing a cover of the song by BSB, I Want it that Way, but it's gonna be a parody. I don't wanna give it away, so sorry, no lyrics. Ha ha. Anyway, so here's the deal. I'm just gonna use the regular lyrics for now to help you reference. On the middle part of the song where they start the line No matter, and end with deep down inside of me... What I wanna do is take the word me, and apply some really really eery automation to the track. I want to use a kind a tap delay that will tap on the word me. Essentally, I want it though to be totally in beat sync with the song and each tap to kind a trail off from dry to all wet. So basically instead of deep down inside of me... You are my fire... What I'd want would be more: Deep down inside of me me me then on the last me of that measure, for my dry regular lead vocal to come back in with you... then obviously picking back up on beat 1, at the beginning of that next bar we'd have are... with that big percussive boom/crash. So, in other words, that word me, leading up into that verse right before the key change modulation, I want the me to tap delay on deep down inside of me so that me taps 3 times. The original dry me, then, me me me-you. You with the lead dry vocal, but the me needs to be totally in sinch with the me, 2, 3, 4, you-and Boom! Are! my fire. Does that kind a make sense? Right now, I don't have any finances to afford any paid plugins like from Waves, or the like. I'm going to for now need to use stock plugins entirely to achieve this, and whatever editting/automation functions come available totally 100% stock with ProTools. Yes, I will be setting ProTools to the correct tempo, and yes, I will have a click aux input track inserted and clicking. I don't know if I'll quantize. Probably not. I think I can get the instrumentation steady enough without doing so. I might, but it's very doubtful that I'll need to. So, yeah... what's the best way of going about this workflow? Please be as specific in your message response as possible. Saying things like the X title plugin will do this, thanks, bye, isn't gonna tell me anything. I need specific instructions on how to start going about this task. I'm not asking you all to tell me exactly how to set things, but I at least least need the plugin to use, and what settings specifically to move up and down, and play around with to get this working with a little work. Re: Mixing my Vocal track
If you only have one vocal to work with, isotope Nectar and Antares Harmony Engine are two of the better plug ins I have used. It can generate unison doubles or harmonies up to 4 voices. Harmony Engine probably has a slightly less complicated interface as its just the harmony tool unlike Nectar which is an entire vocal mixing tool in one. Harmony Engine also has a choir features you can add additional voices to each of the 4 voices. Harmony Engine was just on sale last month and if you check ebay you may find a few dealers still selling it for the sale price of $99. SonyOxford has a plug in called doubler that a lot of people like but I haven’t used it myself. If you have multiple voices and you need to time align them, Vocalign project is probably the least expensive and best way to do this. It’s bigger brother Revoice Pro, will let you generate Doubles (if once again you only have one vocal track to work with) or do the time aligning aspects of Vocalign as well. Also, there is the manual version of creating wide doubles using a pitch plug in in pro tools. Basically duplicate the vocal twice. Pan one duplicate left and one duplicate right. Then using the pitch plug in, shift one up anywhere from 3 to 12 or so cents, and shift the other one down by the same amount nd then lower the volume of the duplicates to taste. Regarding Vocalign or Revoice Pro, scripts for using them in pro tools s I believe exist in the dropbox folder. Nectar or Harmony Engine I have not used in ProTools myself but I have heard of others on the list doing so so I assume they should be accessible. Also I am selling a Vocalign Project license so contact me off list if you are interested. Hope something here got you going in the right direction. > On Sep 9, 2018, at 1:40 PM, Ramy Moustafa wrote: > > Hi all Again today: > > One of my very big problems while Recording songs here is the Vocal, most > Singers came to my studio are not professional to perform a good backing > vocal track. > So from Yesterday i decided to try finding another tecniques to achieve a > good vocal track from a person that can sing just 1 good time :D > But all good things that i found were Videos, they are using the Deesser > Plugins but i can not know what are Parameeters that they are moving etc. > SOme videos they used just 1 solo track, and converted it to A solid GOod > Backing vocal, teh result was not bad at all. specially by this way, i will > avoid the Syncing problem when singing more than 1 vocal track. > > So, need to know from a blind e experience, what can we do to improve our > vocal mixing? > if i have just 1 good take, or i have more than 8 takes, but need them to > sound like tied vocal? what are the accessible plugins that we can use to > achieve that? > > Thanks in advance and sorry again for my long question but this is a very > common Problem here. > Thanks again > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "Pro Tools Accessibility" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to ptaccess+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Pro Tools Accessibility" group. Re: SOme Questions Regarding Short cuts
Hi Nate, I'm happy to help whenever possible. Having specific questions, such as those Ramy posed, helps a lot when formulating answers. The tough ones to answer are the big general questions which I nevertheless also attempt to tackle, albeit with, I'm sure, with somewhat less conciseness ;) Cheers, Slau > On Sep 9, 2018, at 1:53 PM, Nathaniel Kile wrote: > > Hello Slau, > I did not need this question answered myself, but I just want to say that I > always appreciate your thorough answers to everyone here on the list. > > > > Nate Kile, > Assistive Technology Instructor, Tech Vision > Specialist in Technology/Training/Teaching for blind/low vision/virtual > instruction for schools > Also Private training to your needs > 907-444-3707 > Website with hundreds of informational articles & lessons on PC, Office > products, Mac, iPad/iTools and more, all done with keystrokes: > www.yourtechvision.com > > > > -Original Message- > From: ptaccess@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Slau > Halatyn > Sent: Sunday, September 9, 2018 9:31 AM > To: PTAccess List > Subject: Re: SOme Questions Regarding Short cuts > > Hi Ramy, > My comments are inserted below. >> On Sep 9, 2018, at 11:32 AM, Ramy Moustafa wrote: >> let’s say command+ the transport key, does it mean the 1 and 2 in the >> Numeric Keypad or what? > > That would be the same as Command Space bar. The Control Left Bracket shortcut is to play the Edit selection, meaning the edit range in this case. Technically, there's no difference between this and simply pressing space bar providing you don't have insertion following playback. Where this does differ, however, is if you unlink the edit and timeline selection. Blind users would almost never do this. I myself have probably done it maybe twice in twenty years. Unlinking the edit and timeline selection allows one to audition an edit selection and a separate selection elsewhere in the timeline. Note that Control Right Bracket plays the timeline selection rather than the Edit selection. When the two are linked, the playback is exactly the same since the two selections are the same. When they're unlinked, the two can be completely different sections. One would often use this to audition other sections in the timeline to compare with the edit selection or copy from one section to another or compress or expand one to fit the other's range. It's a bit more of a post production workflow although one could certainly utilize it in music or other audio workflows. > > I’m trying to find a way to lock my tracks after i recorded them for > not pressing the record button by mistake or something or that recorded > track, I found the Safe Record COmmand+left click, is what i need or i need > another thing? because it’s not easy to do this while recording to press this > button, and if this is what i need, is there a flotools Shortcut for it? > and, is there a way to lock my track after recording it? or lock my recording > clips? > Flo Tools allows you to Command-click the record button but, if you're having difficulty with that and you do have a control surface with a record button, you can hold down the Command key and press the record button on the control surface and that is the same as Command-clicking the track's record button to put it in record safe mode. One other option is to change that track's input to no input so, if you try to arm it, Pro Tools won't let you so it would be impossible to record over anything. > My last question here is, I can use the 1 and 2 in the Keypad to move bar by > bar,is there a way to move beat by beat inside a measure? > While i was using Sonar, i can move bar by bar, and another keystroke to move > beat by beat, can i find this in Protools? You can use the Control modifier along with the letter m, Comma, Period and Forward slash to move the insertion back and forward by the nudge value and the next greater nudge value. So, for example, if you set your nudge value to one beat and go to the beginning of the timeline, pressing Control Period would advance the insertion point to beat 2. Pressing Control Forward slash would then put the insertion at Beat 4. Pressing Control Comma would move it back one beat to beat 3 and Control m would move it earlier by two beats back to bar one, beat one. Mixing my Vocal track
Hi all Again today: One of my very big problems while Recording songs here is the Vocal, most Singers came to my studio are not professional to perform a good backing vocal track. So from Yesterday i decided to try finding another tecniques to achieve a good vocal track from a person that can sing just 1 good time :D But all good things that i found were Videos, they are using the Deesser Plugins but i can not know what are Parameeters that they are moving etc. SOme videos they used just 1 solo track, and converted it to A solid GOod Backing vocal, teh result was not bad at all. specially by this way, i will avoid the Syncing problem when singing more than 1 vocal track. So, need to know from a blind e experience, what can we do to improve our vocal mixing? if i have just 1 good take, or i have more than 8 takes, but need them to sound like tied vocal? what are the accessible plugins that we can use to achieve that? Thanks in advance and sorry again for my long question but this is a very common Problem here. SOme Questions Regarding Short cuts
Hi all: Am studying today all the short cuts, trying to get as much as i can each day to use them in my work flo. there are 1 thing i can. not understand in the playback shortcuts. let’s say command+ the transport key, does it mean the 1 and 2 in the Numeric Keypad or what? also, using the Command+ Left bracket to play selected place, i can use the spacebar and it will play the selected place alos, so, what is the difference then? I’m trying to find a way to lock my tracks after i recorded them for not pressing the record button by mistake or something or that recorded track, I found the Safe Record COmmand+left click, is what i need or i need another thing? because it’s not easy to do this while recording to press this button, and if this is what i need, is there a flotools Shortcut for it? and, is there a way to lock my track after recording it? or lock my recording clips? My last question here is, I can use the 1 and 2 in the Keypad to move bar by bar,is there a way to move beat by beat inside a measure? While i was using Sonar, i can move bar by bar, and another keystroke to move beat by beat, can i find this in Protools? Thanks in advance and sorry for my questions. BTW thanks so much for all people changed the shortcuts pdf to A great HTML file Thanks so much -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Pro Tools Accessibility" group.
