For Dani, track selection clarification

2019-05-31 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello folks,
This message is for Dani in regards to his track slection question. I was
having trouble finding the actual thread so figured i would post a new message.
I spoke with Slau, and he meant to say control p and control semicolon will
move the insertion point up and down the track list, and not control up and
down errow. He had up and down errow on his mind when he wrote that. Just
wanted to clarify that for folks.

Avid App Manager Question in regards to Falcon Installation

2018-12-11 Thread Brian Howerton
Hey folks,
Trying to install Falcon here from the app manager but it doesn’t seem to be
working. When I double click on the download button, it brings up my I
messages app. Looks like nothing has happened. This is the first time I have
tried to install from the app manager, I usually try to just do it from the
avid website in my account. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Good afternoon folks,

I was wondering if anyone has the editing tutorial that Slau did a few years

It may benefit others on the list as well. Thanks so much,

Hi guys, looks like I need to deal with a few midi files in the studio

if so how would i go about making it play with all the correct instrument
asignments. at present I only really have X band and what ever other stock
plugs the come with protools 12. is it possible to play a midi file with
these tools, and if so would I have to put x band on every track and set
the desired instrument. In sonar i just used to load it up and it would
play through a few good sound fonts. I know sound fonts do not work with p
t and that’s fine, but what is the best way of carrying out this task.
will i need an external sound modjel.

Final Ravenscroft Update

Hello all,
So I am able to see the ravens croft presets within the UVI workstation plug,
and I loaded the ravens croft multi preset, but the parameters are not making
sense. Looks like they are numbers, and after the value is spoken, voiceover
says host automation and then another number such as 2 3 4 etc. Is there a
list of what those parameters are within the multi preset? Thanks for the
help, I am getting there!

Guys,
Disregard last message. I finally found where it needed to go. Now, my only
other question is I am assuming that I would copy the three pro tools ravens
croft presets in to my plugin settings folder for PT. Do I need to create any
folder within that folder for the ravens croft, and if so what do I need to
call it for this to work? I did this once before, but it has been forever.
Also, within the UVI workstation folder in dropbox, I see other presets in
there, but I am assuming the only ones I need to copy are the multi out preset,
the close preset, and the default preset. I seem to remember having to create
a UVI workstation folder within my plugin settings folder as I am writing this,
is that correct? Thanks guys, help is much appreciated.
Brian

Ravenscroft question

2017-04-28 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
For those who use ravens croft with pt, I have installed everything, and I have
the UFS file, but I am not able to locate the UVI sound banks folder where the
UFS file needs to be placed. I have checked in both my library and in my
system folder. Don’t know if I need to create the folder or what I need to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone just wants to respond on we
chat that is fine as well, either or. Appreciate the help guys.

Re: waves vocal override plugin

2017-04-28 Thread Brian Howerton
Hi Chuck,
Yeah, I do have the fader port 8, but was just wondering if voiceover saw the
controls so that I could use plugin monitoring from within flo tools to be able
to adjust values. That’s great that they work well with a control surface.
Very happy.

Slate virtual console and virtual tape machine question

Wondering if anyone uses these plugs in pro tools, and if so, would you mind
sharing the presets with me? I used to use them on windows, but need to go

uses them and if you wouldn’t sharing the presets, I would greatly appreciate
it. Thanks,

OT- native instruments komplete kontrol s88 keyboard

2016-12-26 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello guys,
I know this is totally off topic, but I am debating between the native
instruments complete control s88 keyboard and the roland a88. I’m going to be
buying from sweet water, so of course, I know I can’t test them, so just want
to get people’s thoughts on the complete control keyboards. Trying to decide
between this model and the roland a88. I know with the komplete, you get
accessibility with the controller which is a huge plus as well. Just want
people’s thoughts. Thanks,
Brian

Ravenscroft Piano installation clarification question

2016-12-20 Thread Brian Howerton
Guys,
This want to make sure I did this right. I copied the Ravenscroft 275 UFS file
in to the specified folder path. I then created a UVI workstation folder in my
pro tools plugin setting folder and copied those two presets from dropbox in
there. Actually, I just copied that UVI workstation folder from dropbox in to
my plugin settings folder. Not near a keyboard yet to test this, but wanted to
make sure I did everything right. Thanks guys,

Elastic Audio Question

2016-11-07 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
I have been doing some reading and studying on how elastic audio works in PT,
and I understand how it can be used to change the entire tempo of a session,
but from what I have also read, you can also use it to tighten up instruments
to the click such as drums etc. I would be interested to hear a demo of doing
this with VO. When you all have to tighten up let’s say drums or other
instruments to the click, is elastic audio what you typically use to do this or
would you use beat detective? Anyway, would love to hear a demo of someone’s
workflow on how to accomplish something like this using VO. Sometimes when you
read or watch youtube videos, you hear things like click here, drag here, etc,
so it would be awesome to see this in action with VO. Thanks guys, appreciate
the help.

Tempo question

2016-07-27 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello folks,
If I have an mp3 that I have imported in to pro tools, but I don’t know the
tempo of the song, what is the best way to find the BPM and get the click to
line up with the mp3? Is that as simple as doing tap tempo or is there a
better way that pro tools can analyze the mp3 file to find the BPM of the song.
 Thanks for the help,
Brian

Click plugin question

2016-07-05 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello folks,
In the Click plugin, is there a way to get the preset that I have selected for
the click sound to play the subdivisions? For example, instead of giving me
1,2,3,4, can I have it do the 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and, so that it plays those
eighth note subdivisions as well? If so, how can I do this? Thanks,

Off-topic music notation question

2016-06-28 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
I know this is not pro tools related, but I know there are some heavy hitters
on the list, so thought I would ask here. Has there been any progress as far
as sibelius accessibility on the mac side? I know that that is an avid
product, and I would loe to see that become accessible on the mac. Please tell
me that in the latest version it has become accessible. Thanks for the help,
Brian

Re: level meter question

2016-05-05 Thread Brian Howerton
Thanks Slau. Yeah, I was in the mix window, so essentially, I would have to go
through and hide all tracks accept for the track that I am monitoring for
levels, and I would do this from within the track list table by checking the
hide button beside each track, is that correct? Is there a quicker way to do
it than that. I know I can go to the context menu when I am on a particular
track, but wasn’t sure if there was a quicker way. Thanks for the help Slau,

level meter question

2016-05-03 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
As I was recording today for a session I am working on, I was noticing that
whenever I try to read the meter labeled level meter voiceover just says level
meter, but when I try to read the peak meter next to it, I can consistently
read that meter just fine. I am also getting gain reduction level meter
whenever I try to read that meter as well. Anyone know why this might be? Is
there a preference setting that might be causing this? I did try to make sure
that there are no other open windows as well. To sum up, I can consistently
read the peak meters next to the level meter, but cannot read the level meter
or the gain reduction meter when trying to compress the signal on a track.
Thanks for any tips or explanation,
Brian

recording question

2016-05-02 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello folks,
So I am working on recording these vocal parts, and there are two tenor parts
and a baritone part. They are all singing at different sections of the song,
but I am trying to record each part separately. So right now I am working on
recording the first tenor part for this song, and I recorded the first part
where he sings, and then I tried fast forwarding to the next section to record,
but when I pressed record, it got rid of what I had previously recorded. What
is the best way that I can record each of these parts in section without
getting rid of what is already recorded on each track? I don’t know that I
necessarily want to punch each time using quick punch, I just would like to
fast forward to each section and record each section of each part separately
because I am reading the chart as I am recording it, and I don’t want to record
each part all in one pass. Thanks,
Brian

reverb question

2016-05-02 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
I am working on tracking some vocal parts this morning, and I wanted to add
some verb that I could hear in my ears. Apparently, what I am doing is not
working. I will try to describe what I did. Maybe I am missing something.

1. I interacted with the track that I am recording my vocals on. I then
interacted with the sends, and chose send assignment A and then new track.
2. I created the aux track, and did a solo safe on that aux track.
3. I then put the verb plug on that track, and went back to my vocal track’s
send and made sure that the send level was turned up. All of the outputs for
the tracks were going to my master fader, but when I tried testing after doing
all of this, I still did not hear any verb in my ears. I am just using a
simple audio interface and no other outboard gear. Am I missing something? I
have done this in the past, and from what I remember it did work, but I have
taken a break for quite a while from audio production, and am just getting back
in to pro tools. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Brian

pro tools and video question

2016-04-20 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
So I have a somewhat technical question, and I don’t even know what I would
need to do or if this can be done accessibly. As some of you may know, I am a
worship leader at a church, and in June, our worship arts ministry is going to
be presenting a musical featuring choir and band. I ordered the stem files
from the distributor of the musical, and I am going to be running the band on
click. I am going to import the stems in to pro tools and create the band
tracks from the stems to help add some things that we don’t have in our band
since this musical is heavily orchestrated. I’m going to pan click to hard
left and the track hard right so our sound techs can run track out to the house
and we will have click and track in our ears. My question is this. There is a
video dvd that goes along with the musical where video is shown on the screen
while the songs from the musical are being played. So, do I need to sync the
click and band tracks that I create in PT with the video, or should I rely on
our sound techs to make sure video flows properly with the click. If I do need
to sync the video with the click, can this be accessibly done in PT, or how
would I go about doing it? I’ve never done this before in my life. Thanks for
any help,
Brian

OT gear for sale

2016-03-09 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello folks,
I am selling some gear at the following link. Please make an offer if
interested. I am posing here because I know some have asked about control
surface and audio interface recommendations, so I wanted to post the gear here
so folks would know I had it for sale. The only thing has already been sold is
my m-audio oxygen 88 controller. Thanks, and sorry for the off-topic post.

Papa Bear,
How would you go about using auto tune to tune certain phrases to keep the
vocal sounding natural? Would I just select the audio of the phrases that need
tuning and do it that way? Thanks,

metering preferences question

2016-03-02 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
I’m trying to reset some of my pro tools preferences after having to dump them
yesterday, and I had a question. under the metering preferences, what should I
have my track and master meter types set to? I see there are quite a few under
there and I just don’t know what to use. Should I just use the pro tools
classic meter type or what would you all recommend? Thanks,

new avid application manager question

2016-03-01 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
Today, I finally got updated to the new avid application manager with sighted
assistance, and I tried looking around a bit with voiceover. Can someone
please explain how the new avid application manager works with voiceover? I
tried to find where I log in with my avid credentials, but couldn’t figure out
how to do it. But maybe if I understood how the manager works with voiceover
it would make a little more sense just as far as navigating it with voiceover.
Thanks for the help in advance,
Brian

Re: Creating sends for multiple tracks

2015-12-30 Thread Brian Howerton
Slap,
I happened to be going through my pro tools saved messages from this list and
found this message. Would you mind elaborating on something that you said in
your steps? You said to route the mouse to the send that you wish to use?
Where exactly would the sends be located? Are you referring to the sends in
the channel strips, or can you access the sends another way. I know how to
access the sends from within each channel strip, but that doesn’t seem to be
what you are referring too. I know this message was from a while back, but I
happened to find it and was re-reading so I wanted to reply to get
clarification on this. Thanks Slau,

Also Slau, just so I know, will this be a global change from within pro tools,
or just for that particular session when you rename a bus? Thanks for the help,

And to double click, would that be the VO shift space command twice or would I
route the mouse with vo command f5 and then double click on the track pad.
Just clarifying. Thanks Slau.

Re: changing multiple track outputs at once.

2015-12-30 Thread Brian Howerton
Great, because I definitely have the trackpad on the MBP. So essentially, all
I would do is highlight all of the tracks I want to route, and then go back to
the first track, do the option shift click, and that will bring up the menu to
then route all of the tracks to wherever I want them to go? That’s neat. So
quick and handy.

question about buses in pro tools

2015-12-30 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
Can someone explain to me how to rename buses in pro tools? For example, if I
am creating sub mixes, and I set the input of an aux track to a bus such as bus
1-2, how can I then rename that bus to something like drums with voiceover?
Also, does this rename only effect the current session that I am working on? I
don’t necessarily want to rename my buses permanently, just for mixing purposes
so I don’t always have to remember that drums are buses 1-2. Thanks for the
help,

Guys,
Will this work with a trackpad on a mac book pro? If so, are there any
settings that I need to be aware of before doing this? I know I have my
voiceover setting set correctly for the mouse, but any others to be aware of
before doing this or the solo safe command and other commands like that? This
will be great for routing tracks quickly, and I didn’t know this could be done
quick like this with voiceover. I thought you had to do it one at a time for
each track. Very nice.

level meter question

2015-12-29 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello folks,
I am trying to help a friend of mine get up and running with pro tools, and I
want to make sure what I told him concerning the level meter is accurate. Now
that we have access to the peak level meter, is it better to use this meter
when checking levels on a track before recording or the original level meter
that we have always had access to? I seem to remember Slau saying that the
peak meter is more reliable because the level meter rounds the number value.
Hope this is correct, if not, can someone tell me which one would be best to
use? Thanks,

Hey Andy,
I haven’t seen a lot of changes from the previous version, but I went ahead and
downloaded it. I need to take time to read the what’s new documentation.
Anyway, if you log in to your avid master account, and then go to my products
and subscriptions, you should see your pro tools support plan with your system
ID. You then either interact with that or move past that, and you should see
pro tools download. You do need to interact with this and you will see a link
that says show. You need to click this to have the download links show. Stop
interacting with this and you will see your download links. Hope this helps.

question about using hotspots in pro tools

2015-12-22 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,
I happened to be browsing the commands for using hot spots, and I came across
the Vo Command Shift 1 command under hot spot 1. Voiceover said now watching
hotspot 1. Does this mean that when a value like the level meter or whatever I
have hot spot 1 set to monitor changes, that voiceover will read the change to
me in realtime? If so, this is great, and I never knew about this command
where you can have voiceover watch and monitor a hotspot. I knew I could
invoke a command and have the hotspot information read, but had no idea that
there was a command to have voiceover monitor that hotspot. Wow, you learn
something everyday. For those who already knew about this, sorry about that,
just thought I would share my discovery. Carrie on.
