Re: Pro tools 11 crashes on quit

2014-02-17 Thread Slau Halatyn
I don't think you'd ever get an instruction like "click on the blue button."
You might be told click on a pop-up menu that displays a word like "waveform"
where, under Pro Tools 10, that control says "track display, pop-up button" but
that's only what VoiceOver reads. In actuality, what's written there is the
type of parameter being displayed like waveform, volume, pan, mute, etc. In
other words, what's being displayed in the timeline. In Pro Tools 11, this has
been fixed so VoiceOver reads the name of the parameter being displayed. No
tech support person will ever know that and you shouldn't expect them to. What
you should know, however, is when tech support asks you whether your timeline
is showing waveforms or volume curves, you should be able to understand what
they're asking you and how to determine what your timeline is showing.

For a novice who knows nothing about Pro tools, a tech support person might
have to resort to the lowest common denominator instructions like "you see that
little round icon right at the top?" rather than saying, "click on the first
insert. The more you know about the Program you're using, the more highly the
tech support person will regard your inquiry. Also, they're not there to teach
people Pro Tools. Their role is to help troubleshoot and solve issues having to
do with the application rather than auxiliary access to their product. They're
not going to help a person figure out how to click on a radio button with
Dragon Naturally speaking. They won't help you with Voiceover.

Avid will never offer VoiceOver support. You'll get support just like any other

that's another issue that can be submitted as a bug.

My personal opinion on the matter, so long as the area in pro tools is
accessible, then they shouldn't need to know anything about VoiceOver. I
believe we should know our Operating System and or screen reader well enough
that we can take standard instructions and translate them into things we can do
with our screenreader. Yes if they use vague terms then you may have to ask
them to specify but we should know how to navigate to a certain screen and
click on it without having to get specific VoiceOver instructions. Just my two
cents on the matter.

Re: Pro tools 11 crashes on quit

2014-02-16 Thread Nick Gawronski
Hi, How well do the Avid support people know about voiceover if I should
have a question on how to do something as I agree having the support
contract would be very nice but if they don't know how to do anything
with voiceover I would not rather buy it unless they can give a refund
if they find out they can't help me? Nick Gawronski

Not only for searches, but is the quickest way to launch programs short of
keyboard commanders. I wouldn't kill spotlight entirely but just the things
avid recommends. This is also why you want to be recording to a separate drive
and not your internal drive the OS is installed on.

Just be aware that the Mac OS uses spotlight to do basic searches of Mail
messages. So, for those using a Mac for day-to-day email, etc., I wouldn't
advise disabling Spotlight. You The actual recommendation from Avid is to turn
off the indexing of media drives and to disable the keyboard shortcut for
spotlight which interferes with a Pro Tools shortcut for recording. Otherwise,
Spotlight is not a problem in and of itself.
