Hi Martin,
Yep, that's pretty much what's happening for me as well. This started for me a
few weeks ago and I haven't bothered to figure it out. The problem happens
whether VoiceOver is on or not. We'll see what happens.
Best,

RE: updating plugins with Avid Application Manager

2017-04-25 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau and list!

I'm quite fine wiht the app manager.
But when I'm prompted to log in to my Avid accunt, the app manager and or
VoiceOver gets busy until I cancel the tastk.
This happens after entering 3 digits of the Avid password.

Hi John,
Feel free to reach out off list and I can help you sort it out. Yes, it's not
something that you have to deal with often but, I assure you, it's smooth once
you have the hang of it.

Hi John,
I'm assuming you're referring to the Application Manager rather than the iLok
License Manager.

Re: updating plugins with Avid Application Manager

2017-04-24 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Dónal,

My experience with the iLok License Manager has been extremely consistent. For
what it's worth, it's not, strictly speaking, a Mac application and is fully
cross-platform between Windows and Mac. The instructions in the user manual as
well as my demo both suggest that, for best results, one should navigate using
the built-in keyboard shortcuts and the arrow keys. In dialogs, the Tab key is
the best way to navigate through the controls. To select the appropriate iLok,
press Command-l to select a location then press the down arrow. By default, the
first selected option will be your local computer. Pressing the down arrow
again will move through the list. Whether your iLok is connected or not, it
will show up in the list and will be identified as either being connected or
not. If the message says that the connected iLok belongs to another account,
you're not logged into your account. If that's the case, one thing I'd suggest,
if you haven't already done so, is to log in and make sure you check the option
to remember the user name and password. You might need to choose "Sign Out"
from the File menu to help restore defaults. The point is, you want to get to
the dialog where you sign in and enter the correct info and check the checkbox
and sign in. From there on in, any time you launch the iLok License Manager,
all you have to do is wait for the application to launch and then press Return
and you'll be logged in. It really works flawlessly. Yes, it's not the perfect
user experience but it absolutely works reliably and consistently. If you'd
like, contact me off list and I can help ensure that you are able to use it
consistently.

Cheers,
Slau

VoiceOver compatibility leaves a lot to be desired but that's not even of

2017-04-24 Thread Donal Fitzpatrick
hi Slau,

OH the behaviour is more or less as it was, it's just choosing the wrong iLok
for me and I see no way to change it. In other words, the one selected in the
application isn't the one connected to the device.

I'd also comment that from a User Experience perspective, it's very
inconsistent with general Mac guidelines.  Sorry, occupational hazard there;
I'm more of a human computer interaction person, than a professional
musician/music producer.

Depending upon where in the physical list the item appears, it might
actually be off screen even though voiceOver will still read it. Since the

default actions, it's necessary to take steps to ensure things are visible
 when clicking. Do the following:

If you click "Download" or "Update" and the item doesn't change and
nothing seems to happen, press the Page Down key on your keyboard and try
the mouse click again. Use VO+Shift+Space Bar to click. If it still
doesn't work, press Page Down again and try once more. If you happen to
have a lot of plug-ins in the list, it might take several page down
presses. For example, if there's an update to the White Boost plug-in,
it's definitely going to be a few pages down. This all depends on your

Hi Slau,

Yup I've had the login issues until a recent update. I've now disabled it
completely. On a related topic: how are you finding the iLok license manager
these days? I still find it a challenge, I have to say.

Re: updating plugins with Avid Application Manager

2017-04-24 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Dónal,
Well, you're not the only one to have troubles. Sweetwater's engineers most
often encourage users to simply disable the Application Manager because so many
have had trouble with it. I've personally had no issues with it until only very
recently but, when it works, it works great. VoiceOver compatibility leaves a
lot to be desired but that's not even of most concern. It's when it locks up,
regardless of VoiceOver, and simply won't allow you to log in, that's when it's
a real problem. Others have experienced this quite a bit. I'd imagine , or at
least hope, that Avid will revamp it and fix these issues. For now, there are
bigger fish to fry but this is definitely a side dish.
Cheers,
Slau

Chuck,
The suggestion to just ring Avid worked a charm. They had it sorted in 5

Hi Donal,
Its worse than a 4 year old!
At least after a while the 4 year old will go to sleep!
One of the first things I do after a new up date is to disable the "app

Since I'm paying for my HD subscription why not use it! :)
I've got music to record not wrestle with soft ware thats not Apple VoiceOver

Hi Chuck,

Perfectly happy to do that. It's weird, none of the standard cursor routing
keystrokes will bring either the mouse or keyboard to where I want them to go.
This thing reminds me of my four-year old: It has a mind of its own, and takes

The app manager is sad to say the least! :(
Almost every "beta teem" conference call I bring this up but still no joy!
If you have an Avid support plan I suggest you call them and have them do it
for you to save time!
This will bring this issue up again from your having to call and let Avid know
its broke! :)

Re: updating plugins with Avid Application Manager

2017-04-24 Thread Donal Fitzpatrick
Hi there,
Sadly, no joy with that whatsoever. Interestingly, VO doesn't report anything
under the mouse once I execute the move. I had thought of the off-screen
issue, but not the page-down solution. However, even after executing this
command multiple times, no joy. Tis most odd indeed.

Thanks a lot,

Re: updating plugins with Avid Application Manager

2017-04-24 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Dónal,

Depending upon where in the physical list the item appears, it might actually
be off screen even though voiceOver will still read it. Since the Application
Manager really only responds to mouse clicks rather than default actions, it's
necessary to take steps to ensure things are visible when clicking. Do the
following:

If you click "Download" or "Update" and the item doesn't change and nothing
seems to happen, press the Page Down key on your keyboard and try the mouse
click again. Use VO+Shift+Space Bar to click. If it still doesn't work, press
Page Down again and try once more. If you happen to have a lot of plug-ins in
the list, it might take several page down presses. For example, if there's an
update to the White Boost plug-in, it's definitely going to be a few pages
down. This all depends on your screen size and resolution, of course. Hope that
helps.
