No, you are certainly not. I currently have about 60 PyGtk ML messages
from April 2007 through January 2008. And I've only been a member for
about a month! Weird...

No, it's the whole list.
It's because I just finished cleaned up the pending moderation
requests for the list.
It had been badly neglected for some time, that's why you see messages from
2007 showing up.

listadmin is still processing so we'll see a few more mails over the
next couple of hours.
mailman is apparently rather slow when it has to process 3600
moderation requests :-)

[pygtk] spam filter

2002-03-25 Thread James Henstridge

I have hacked support for doing SpamAssassin checks into the mailman
mail pipeline on my system. This is mainly an attempt to reduce the
moderation load for this mailing list (which often exceeds 10 messages a
day -- more than the real messages on the list). Any message getting a
score over 10 gets discarded, and over 5 gets held for moderation.

Hopefully this will lower the moderation load for this list to a
manageable level. If anyone else is interested in the patch, it is
available at:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=534577&group_id=103&atid=300103

If your message doesn't go through and you get no notice that it is
being held for moderation, then it may have been discarded. Please
email me directly if you suspect this has happened. (I may need to
adjust this filter a little).

James.

Alleluyah. Thank-you. For the first time in several days, my PyGTK folder
contains 100% pure content.

It doesn't by default, but it can be turned on (I just did turn it
on). By default it allows anyone to post, but passes messages through a
spam filter (which has been catching 99% of the spam sent to the list in
the past -- recently closer to 50%), which seems to be good enough for
most lists.

[pygtk] spam mails

2001-01-24 Thread James Henstridge

As a number of spammers have started targetting the list with correctly
formatted messages (which mailman doesn't catch), I have switched the list
over to member posting only.

Non member posts will be held for approval, and I will try to approve all
the valid ones in good time. If you post from multiple email accounts,
you can subscribe multiple times, and disable delivery for all but one
subscription. This will let your messages go through without requiring
moderation.

I know this is an inconvenience to some people, so I am sorry. Blame the
spammers.

James.

The basic behind enabling posting from non-members was to avoid having
legitimate mails from legitimate subscribers refused because they use a different
from address (like when you have many accounts).

But maybe this should be revised if spam keeps getting up this fast

How are the messages getting here? Does the list only accept messages from
subscribed members? If not, it should --- this is the best way of preventing
spam.

I'm sure Mailman should do this.

[pygtk] Spam problems...

2001-01-23 Thread gobo

Hi all.

As you've all seen lately the amount of spam to this list has almost
taken up with the amount of posts. Is there nothing that can be done
about this?

Do we need to start moderating the list? I would gladly help moderating
the list if there is a wish for people doing so, and if there are more
people than me doing so. (The amount of posts are after all so few that
moderating this list will take a maximum of 2 minutes per day. :)

[pygtk] Spam problem fixed

1999-01-17 Thread James Henstridge

I have just changed the pygtk mailing list configuration, so it only
allows members to post (I just noticed that one it of spam bounced).

If you have trouble posting, it is probably because your mailing address
doesn't match the one you subscribed with. If you have problems, mail me
directly, and I will see what I can do.

James Henstridge.
