Re: [python-uk] Python services within existing .Net infrastructure

2017-01-31 Thread Anand Kumria
I'd probably start with utilising setting up Linux VMs / containers but
make things available on Windows.

Keep in mind that .Net (and thus C#, F#) also run on Linux as well, and
those VMs / containers tend to be cheaper overall.

So I may have missed your email.

If you haven't received a reply from me, please accept my apologies, and

[python-uk] Help solve a few riddles

2016-04-27 Thread Anand Kumria
Hi,

Do you, or someone you know, what to change the world?

We are trying to solve a riddle. How do people get cancer? [1]

If you have cancer, which medicine will work best for you? Does it exist
yet?

When you visit your GPs, they can easily and routinely ask for a blood
test. We want to make the same capabilities available but for genetic
sequencing. [2]

We are Genomics England, www.genomicsengland.co.uk, fully owned and
funded by the Government and we are seeking a range of permanent Python
developers. We need good junior through to exemplary senior developers.

From the outset you will be working we highly talented
Bioinformaticians, to help translate their algorithms into Python -- and
for the already existing Python make it robust, even easier to test and
help us scale so we can (eventually) handle the kinds of query rates the
NHS is going to send.

The salary on offer ranges from £50k - £90k, depending upon experience;
we aren't looking to hire in a hurry. We want to ensure new hires can
'gel' with the team. If you are a recruitment agency, we will consider
any CVs sent to us a lovely gift but nothing more.

Feel free to reply if you'd like more details and I'll answer as I can.

Hi Rachid,

[ I wasn't aware of Tim's event calendar, so there you go ].

Basically, there are enough events on in London that, although it is a
shame, there is - realistically - going to be a clash.

Apart from announcing to Python-UK, which you already do, just assume
there *will* be a clash.

There are plenty of Python people around, and the more events, the
better, not all are geared towards the same audience.

Hi,

Of course we smelt a rat.

As soon as that comment came out, I gave up on even reading the
discourse that followed.

Fundamentally many of the commentators do not realise that forcing
people to participate - i.e. forcing reply-to to be public - (imagine
be *required* to attend *every* Python-related meetup in London; no
matter what) simply does not work.

No technical means to enforce / create a community has worked.

Enough people elaborated on the (many) technical pitfalls of having
reply-to, so I won't, the community one is often overlooked.

from 18:30 onwards. I am envisaging an informal evening; meet up and have

 Django in November.

After that I'll talk about Facebook, Django and Python. And we can
continue having a beer and socialising.

If you are interested in coming along, please let me know.
