Re: [Qgis-developer] Changelog: Misleading "Author" tag

2014-01-18 Thread Ramon Andiñach
Well, if you really wanted a feature like that, you could:

1. link it to the person who donated their time's personal page if they've got
one (or a page of their choice if they don't).
2. Have a generic "Time" logo/label and state that it was paid for by a
donation of this person's time.

In an opportunity cost sort of way they paid for it by not going
gardening/bike-ride/something-else-but-coding.

Of course this might also identify which devs might be seen as a soft touch...

I don't mind too much - though I have a similar problem in that many of us
donate large amounts of time to the project which is essentially 'funding'
too that goes unacknowledged. On the other hand that may be a sacrifice we
as a group are willing to make in order to encourage 3rd parties to fund
work on QGIS. It certainly would be good publicity for any organisation
that does fund a feature. If others feel it is appropriate to do this we
can of course add a field, but even then my preference would be to simply
annotate the description field with a final line stating who funded the
feature e.g.:

(Funded by the three little pigs)[http://hohoho.com]

people that put in a lot of work for free.

What do you think about adding a "Funded by" attribute to changelog

On the larger topic of providing credit, historically in our release
changelogs I have tried not to single out particular authors since for
every sexy new bit of eye candy 1 developer creates, there are 10 more devs
doing 'under the hood' work that end users often don't realise has taken
place, and that doesn't get mentioned in the changelog. For this reason I
prefer to keep the language in the changelog neutral as possible in terms
of who did what so that we feel a collective pride in the release.

As with all things this is open to debate and I am not trying to lay down
the law hereso if anyone feels strongly that the approach should be
otherwise lets discuss...

PS any ideas / bugs are welcome - simply drop them onto our backlog at
https://waffle.io/timlinux/projecta

PPS look out for the new voting functionality for project decisions we are
prototyping too...

[Qgis-developer] QgsMapCanvas.freeze and QgsInterface.AddRasterLayer

2014-01-18 Thread Luca Manganelli
Hi,

I noticed that if I do:

 1. QgsMapCanvas.freeze ( True ) - to stop drawing the mapcanvas
 2. call QgsInterface.AddRasterLayer() two times to add two distinct WMS
layers
 3. QgsMapCanvas.freeze ( False ) - to enable drawing the mapcanvas
 4. QgsMapCanvas.refresh - to redraw the map

I noticed that AddRasterLayer completely ignores the freeze state of
QgsMapCanvas forcing it to draw the map on each call of AddRasterLayer.

Is there any way to avoid it?

[Qgis-developer] Changelog: Misleading "Author" tag

2014-01-18 Thread Matthias Kuhn

Hi,

Having a look at the (awesome) changelog [1] I noticed the "Author" tag.
It looks to me, that this tag mentions the author of the changelog
description, but it can easily be mistaken for the author of the feature
(at least that's what I expected first when looking at it).
While I am extremely thankful to people writing these changelog entries,
I think credit has to be given where it is due, so I would recommend to
rename this tag to "description author" and have another tag "feature
author(s)" next to it.

Hi Giovanni,

as you are pretty into issues as in the importance of problems, maybe
you can create a top-3 of PR's that you like to have fixed first (in
this weekend ;-) ).

Then hopefully people
1) can check if these PR's are still mergeable (I can do that)
2) have some guidance in the 'importance' of the PR's and we can have
some 'focus'
3) we can ask a core dev to have a look into the code and decide if the
fix is ok (or not!).

Idea?
