[Qgis-developer] Renaming Save Style - Save Properties (Vector layer dialog)

2014-03-01 Thread Nathan Woodrow
Hey all,

I would like to get some opinions on Save, Load, Restore Default Style..
buttons. Personally I find these labeled wrong for what action they take.
Originally these buttons would only save the information from the Style
tab out to a .qml file however now that has evolved to saving other
information that is not related to style, things like;:the edit forms;
included WMS, excluded WMS, etc. To me these are more properties of the
layer and less about the style so the name is misleading. Sharing these
also becomes hard because if I only want the style part it can also
override the label and form settings I have. Hand editing the XML is the
only real option to remove the other settings, which is a pain

Proposing: Rename from Save, Load Style to Save Properties, Load Properties.

Motivation: I would like to add the ability to save just the style
information out to a new file type (maybe something like .qstyle) that
would just contain the renderer-v2 XML block. This would allow sharing of
just the renderer style and would also give me the ability to expand the
Style Manager to allow saving of prebuilt styles e.g I would like to
premake a planning scheme style that all ready contains the right values to
symbols that I could share and load. By Mixing non style information in
the .qml files means this is not as simple as it could be.

We could also expand the above logic to only save the label section out to
create a label style manager.

Thoughts?

Hi All,
Please treat this as thread enhancing and not thread hijacking :-)

If there are going to be modifications done to styling, please consider
adding a feature whereby the various styles chosen or experimented with,
are auto-saved for that mapsheet (perhaps in your project files).
I find when editing, edge-matching or QAing various mapsheets, I want to
easily switch between styles - I might choose single symbol for the
map I am editing, but rule-based for the adjoining maps. Rule based
choices would change depending on scenarios, so it does not make sense
to save a rule-based set (I could end up with too many).
So, what I am seeking is the ability to switch between the 5 style
categories, and not lose the ones I may have set up a few minutes ago.
If I close QGIS, and come back to the project later, I would like to see
the last styles I had set up for a mapsheet, still be available when I
click through the style options.

Hope I'm making myself clear.
Thanks regards,
Zoltan

I am using QGis 2.2.0-3 MacOSX version, ( but also Win version has not ).

You didn't install the ECW plugin v1.10.1-1 from [1], did you?

Because The GDAL plugins and other extras are not included.

The windows version has ECW too (also optional in OSGeo4W, but included in
qgis-full and hence the standalones).

Re: [Qgis-developer] Renaming Save Style - Save Properties (Vector layer dialog)

2014-03-01 Thread Régis Haubourg
Hi Nathan I agree with your proposal of renaming style by properties.
Users don't understand they also inherit labels, metadata and so on when
loading a style.

By the way, I think some improvements can be made for reloading style use
case. Problem occurs (maybe occured, didn't check recently) when user want
to transfer graduated or single value style classes from one column to
another. Copying style from another table often leads to that situation,
where field or expression is not in target table. I know this can be
tricky since graduated classes are in autosync with numeric data.
Another issue occurs when geometry type is not the same. Maybe we could save
at least color when reapplying style (from point to polygon for instance).
This was my small thread highjack ;-)
Cheers,

Régis

I also think it could be great to have a button

+1

By the way, having a save style button could also lead to the ability
of

saving/restoring more than one style for each layer (via a combo box for
the restore button), which could be great too.

This could work quite well. Do you think the Save style button could be
a simple button with the save icon or do we need a labeled button?

Best wishes,

2014-03-01 Thread Eric Goddard
Python can also be used to find duplicate attributes. It isn't as
straightforward as a sql query, but it works. And if your data isnt in
spatialite/postGIS, I don't know if you can do a select distinct without
creating a more complicated subquery using the expression builder. From the
console:

from collections import Counter

# get a reference to the layer to be searched
layer = iface.activeLayer()

# get the position in the attribute table of the attribute to be checked
idx = layer.fieldNameIndex('attribute_name')

# create a list of all the attribute values
attributeList = [feature.attributes()[idx] for feature in
layer.getFeatures()]

# print the duplicate entries in the attributeList
print([attribute for attribute, count in Counter(attributeList).items() if
count 1])

When did you download that? The current GDAL Complete is dated
 2013-12-21, with GDAL 1.10.1-1 (2013-9-2) and NumPy 1.8 (2013-12-7).

I download 1 hour ago ...

But now, I found this other:

http://www.kyngchaos.com/files/software/python/NumPy-1.8.0-1.dmg

and it seems to work :)

Re: [Qgis-developer] What about a qgis project add function ?

2014-03-01 Thread Régis Haubourg
Hi,
In fact, what would be great is a small evolution of Embed Group and layers
actions.
I would love to call it Add or embed from other project, and just add a
checkbox choose embed or hard copy of the layers and groups. Existing dialog
is already correct.
I just ported Import Project plugin to 2.0 to satisfy that need. Just be
aware that you need to give a new id to imported layers, to be able to
import some layers n times. Code is quite simple, I would love to see that
in core!

Re: [Qgis-developer] Buffering/caching/auto-saving vector styles

 Hi All,
Sorry about the repeat, but Nathan felt I was hijacking his thread. Apologies.

If there are going to be modifications done to styling, please consider
adding a feature whereby the various styles chosen or experimented with, are
auto-saved for that mapsheet (perhaps in your project files).
I find when editing, edge-matching or QAing various mapsheets, I want to
easily switch between styles - I might choose single symbol for the map I
am editing, but rule-based for the adjoining maps. Rule based choices would
change depending on scenarios, so it does not make sense to save a rule-based
set (I could end up with too many).
So, what I am seeking is the ability to switch between the 5 style
categories, and not lose the ones I may have set up a few minutes ago. If I
close QGIS, and come back to the project later, I would like to see the last
styles I had set up for a mapsheet, still be available when I click through
 the style options.

 Hope I'm making myself clear.
 Thanks regards,
 Zoltan

Hi Zoltan,

This is what I'm currently doing to sort of get this effect. This isn't as
complex as yours, but it might help.
For some of the geology maps (say geology.shp) that I work with I normally look
at them coloured by rock type. So my styling for maps becomes (geology.qml).
Sometimes it's also useful to look at them by other features, say age or
formation name, so I'll make some other styles for those (geology_age.qml) and
geology_name.qml). The the layer opens up they way I expect, but I can also
switch betweeen styles reasonably quickly.

Do the rule change completely? or are they variations? If they're variations
then saving still be useful. You might end up with a style files that you used
as a road rulesets template and vegetation ruleset template, and then modified
these for the job at hand.

Hi Regis,

do you intend this :

ImportProject is a plugin that lets you load layers from another project
file. Just select a project (.qgs) file,

check off the layers you wish to load, and it will include them in your
current project with all styling.

Works with vector, raster, database and web service layers.

?

I have a note : in the Info panel, you have CopyPasta in the title :)

And , you have right : it should be insert under the Project menu, and
not only between Plugins :)

BTW, Great !!!
