There is a little bit of overlap of people involved, but it is mostly
different people. But they will build upon the experience made in the
qWat/QGEP projects. And I hope they can also contribute back to the core
project. 

One technique they will try to use is the new QGIS project generator
that Matthias is currently developing - a tool that can generate a QGIS
project based on a configuration with YAML files and a data model out of
a PostgreSQL database. Still early days for this development - but
hopefully it will be a success. The idea is to save parts of the tedious
work, such as setting up relations, constraints, etc. Stuff that is
already defined in the database / data model. Probably a topic to
discuss at the next dev meeting.

[Qgis-user] Symbolizing a discrete or a boolean raster

Dear all

As much as I love QGIS and use it in my everyday life, there is one feature
that I find particularly annoying: the styling of discrete rasters.

Basically, if I have a raster layer consisting of discrete landcover values
(1: water, 2: forest, 3: built-up), it seems that there is no easy way to
style it. QGIS will assume that the data is continuous and basically
interpolate the color between each value, which leads to the following
issues:

Let's say I want to display only water and built-up (values 1 and 3), water
in blue and built-up in grey. QGIS will still display the forests, using a
color somewhere "between" blue and grey. My only left option is to process
the raster to actually replace all the 2 with NoData, which is highly
unpractical...

Same if I have a boolean raster (only 0 and 1 values). QGIS will by default
make a color ramp from 0 to 0..

Also, the whole rather feels like a work-around for a missing feature.

I dream of a feature similar to this one from ArcGIS:

where all unique values are styled independently and where I can easily
skip the values I don't want to see on my map.

But none has gotten lots of attention yet... Am I the only one to be
annoyed by this? If no, please raise your hand and let's try to get some

Would I be right in guessing that this is modeled after the QWAT/QGEP
projects? If so, it sounds great. Lots of fantastic stuff has flowed
into QGIS upstream as a result of QWAT/QGEP.

Non mi sono spiegato bene: probabilmente Qgis non riesce a decomprimere quel
mostro da 7 GB, quindi prova a ricomprimerlo come ti ho detto (LZW a 8 bit)
e facci sapere, grazie.

la  mappona da 7,8 giga e le mappe piccole da 150 sono state tutte
prodotte con lo stesso metodo.

Quindi hanno lo stesso tipo compressione.

Potrebbe essere un problema di compressione: in un editor grafico, abbassa
la profondita' di colore da 24 ad 8 bit, salvalo con altro nome ed algoritmo
LZW, e riprova in Qgis.

Per caricare  il raster con qualsiasi programma riesca a farlo si deve
indicare il file.map nel quale c' è il riferimento al file con la mappa.

ma è  la stessa risposta che da  con i file da 150 mb che invece qgis
carica...
