[Qgis-user] Layer actions in one clic ?

2021-07-30 Per discussione Didier Peeters
Dear QGIS users,

I have been using actions in QGIS for years and I find them very useful and
much easier to create than plugins. As a reminder, they can have 4 different
scopes, which are 'Field', 'Feature', 'Layer' and 'Canvas'.

However, there is one thing I don't understand: when choosing 'Canvas', it is
always necessary to click on an layer element after choosing the action to be
used in the attributes toolbar (with the action button - the little wheel). Why
is this? Wouldn't it be easier to immediately trigger an action by clicking on
its name in the toolbar?
In particular, I have defined a Python action that fetches a file containing
data to be imported into a database, with no specific link to a particular
entity.

So, have I misunderstood the use of the action? Am I missing something?

Or maybe better, would it be possible to have actions not related to any layer ?

Hi,

I don't know about your data or what you call a "function" here, but yes you
need to have it loaded in QGis as a layer (with or without geometry). To do so
and supposing you have a .xls or .xlsx file you can install the 'Spreadsheet
Layers' plugin, which adds a "Add spreadsheet layer" entry in "Layer" / "Add
new Layer" menu and a corresponding button in the "Layers" toolbar.
  Alternatively you could
maybe convert your data into a .csv file and load it as well. Once your file
is loaded you should be able to create the relation.

Hi,

You need to use a Relation, in the project properties (Menu: Project >
Properties > Relations).

See these videos to understand how it works :

Hi Dickson,

Since QGIS 3.x there is an import/export functionality in the Project menu,
with a specific option for DWG/DXF files.

Wafa’a, I don’t understand your problem. Just do the following:

download QGis from this link :
http://qgis.org/downloads/macOS/QGIS-macOS-3.2.0-1.dmg

and do the steps 1 2 3 in that order … Beware that at first step you need to
install Python 3.6.x (i.e. apparently currently 3.6.6) , not 3.7 .

What about the QuickMapServices plugin ?
For Google you need to get the contributed pack in the settings.

Hello Randy,

I haven’t been working with value relations very recently but what I used to do
to easily share it with other users was to save everything in the project file,
then duplicate this file and replace the login name (or anything else that
would need to be adapted) with a text editor.

Hello everybody,

I’m trying to copy/paste rows between two tables (layers without geometries)
loaded in QGis. They have the same structure but one is a postgis layer and
the other is a csv file. When a click on the ‘Paste’ button in the attribute

QGis beginners a simple way to load data from their MS Excel world to PostGis,
where the data will afterward be processed and then displayed in QGis.

Does anybody know anything about this problem ?

[Qgis-user] troubles with QGis Atlas

2016-01-11 Per discussione didier peeters
Hello,

I’ve started to use the Atlas in QGis composer: I use a non-geometry table as
coverage layer, providing the feature id’s and corresponding labels for my
maps, and I display always the same extent but with different data of course,
using a rule-based style like ‘ "field" = @atlas_featureid'.  At first it
worked fine but now, the atlas mistakes @atlas_featurenumber for
@atlas_featureid, i.e. instead of displaying the data corresponding to the
feature id it displays the data corresponding to the number of the feature (~
the row number, as some are filtered out), but selects properly the labels
corresponding to the feature value. So I obtain maps with a title which is not
related to the content !
In the expression editor @atlas_featureid and @atlas_featurenumber are
previewed with the same Current value although they are different !

Does anyone have an idea about this ?

I use QGis 2.12.1 on Mac.

I can refine my description :

the problem occurs on the border width only, the border color works fine.

Still, no one has ever met this problem ?

Hi Andreas,

yes, I can define a border width ‘manually’ in the styling of the layer, but I
cannot override this with a value from Postgis.
I will send you a svg.

Re: [Qgis-user] Adding a Mac to a group of PCs

2015-09-01 Per discussione didier peeters
Arni,

Postgis is certainly an excellent option.
Regarding the data sources, currently QGis cannot use relative paths to files
or photos (at least) but to svg's in styling (and maybe other, I don’t have an
exhaustive list). One option to bypass the files issue would be to use a web
server and store URL instead of internal paths. For instance you could have a
web server, and whenever a file (or photo) is added generate with a Postgresql
trigger the corresponding url in another attribute, making the file available
to all the users, either through a form or through an action.

[Qgis-user] Saving a polygon in QGis before to edit it

2015-07-20 Per discussione didier peeters
Hello,

I would like to find the best solution to the following case:

in QGis, when editing a polygon (splitting it in 2 parts) I need to save the
original shape, in order to keep the different steps of its evolution; this
operation is likely to be repeated several times. The solution I found is to
start by copying the polygon,
then edit it (split)
then pasting back the original one,
then adjust and update the attributes of the 2 new polygons.

Is there a less tricky way to achieve this ?

If not it would be nice to have an option in the save dialog (with a default
behaviour set in the Settings), and I would file a feature request.

Hello Andreas,

yes it’s for some ‘historisation', more precisely to make a filiation, and yes
I certainly will use triggers in PostGIS. But I wanted to avoid confusion
between different kind of edition operations that I’m not currently foreseeing;
I’m not sure it will always be easy to distinct this specific action from
others. And I thought that it might also be interesting outside of the
database world, to have that edit and preserve operation.

The SQL-MM standard has this as a built-in tool set for databases, however,
PostgreSQL does not implement this part of the SQL specification (I believe
the latest versions of SQL server and Oracle 12 does). However, you can
simulate the same in Postgis, using triggers and rules.

2015-07-20 Per discussione didier peeters
I’m facing a strange behavior now: I tested the layerVersion plugin, at first
it seemed to work fine and effectively bring back the previous polygon’s shape.

But then a confusion appeared between the polygons : when moved one, it would
‘disappear’ and another would move as well and after saving this only the
second polygon had moved while the first one would ‘re-appear’ at its original
place. When selecting a polygon, 2 more ones are selected as well, and when
deleting ‘them’ (with the red garbage can, I use QGis 2.8.2) the first one
disappears only. This behavior continues after having uninstalled LayerVersion
and restarted QGis.

Is this a bug generated by LayerVersion ? Has anybody seen this before ?
My layer is provided by PostGis.

Re: [Qgis-user] Default values in form

2015-06-28 Per discussione didier peeters
Hi Andreas,

it would be nice to have these options:

by default the default values precede the last inserted values (otherwise
defining default values would be somehow useless), except where specified
otherwise in the field definitions. So there would be an option in each field
definition (a checkbox, next to the default value definition field) stating
that the last non null inserted values do precede the default one.

Cheers,
Didier

Which one has precedence? The default value or the value of the last record?

Also - I think we probably need a mixture of default values and values from
the last record - but I think the values of the last record are not
fine-grained enough - so we could tell QGIS to use the values from the last
record for some columns but for other columns use the default value.

We have to think about both approaches and need a collaboration of both, in
 my opinion.

them myself. Well that’s the definition of a default value, and I don’t
think that using layers stored in Postgis would make any difference.

 Thanks
 Didier

Re: [Qgis-user] Default values in form

Hi Matthias,

In a previous e-mail you said that you would prefer to have a global redesign
of the field definition and form tab(s) ; should I create this specific feature
request anyway or wouldn’t fit into your QEP instead ? And by the way, I’m not
sure about how to add comments to your QEP, I’m not familiar with this tool.

Cheers,
Didier

That can easily be added as a feature request.

[Qgis-user] Default values in form

2015-06-26 Per discussione didier peeters
Hello,

Simple question : is there a way to set a default value for an attribute in
QGis ?

would like that some fields would be filled automatically unless I fill them
myself. Well that’s the definition of a default value, and I don’t think that

Thanks,

I’ll surely take a look at your plugin, and open a ticket if necessary.

@Stefan : I had seen that post by Nathan Woodrow, but was hoping for something
‘lighter’ …

 Hi,

if you define the values as default in PostgreSQL and use my :) plugin
DataDrivenInputMask [1] these values are inserted in the mask that is created
by the plugin in QGIS. Thus for fields with defaults you cannot insert NULL
vallues (but that's why you define a default).

It could be added to the list Information about fields next to
 constraints.

Any feedback on it is welcome.

 Hei Didier,

I guess you could use a python init function for the form in order to define
 default values (see:

However, sounds like a useful enhancement of the Custom form functionality
(at least I would be interested too)...
