Re: AW: [Qgis-user] Many crashes on ubuntu 8.10 with recommanded binairies

2009-02-17 Thread Agustin Lobo

Pete, which gdal version is the one that we should be using? 1.5.1.3 ?
I do have that one from the repository you mention, and I think that was
automatically selected at selecting qgis in synaptic.
I also have
libgdal1-1.4.0-grass (not libgdal1-1.5.1.3-grass). Is this also a
potential problem?

Thanks

Agus

The is a big problem with the base GDAL package in Ubuntu 8.10. It is
too bad Ubuntu has not updated this.

You can get an updated version of GDAL by adding the following launchpad
repo to your /etc/apt/sources.list files

Currently SLD is not supported in QGIS, though its on my wish list too. First
we need to get the renderer infrastructure (which Martin and his gang are
working on) updated to support the various SLD style requirements (so that we
can actually draw in the way the SLD specifies).

Re: [Qgis-user] delimited text

2009-02-17 Thread John C. Tull

Declan,

I've found that the plugin is very picky about line endings. You will
need to use a text editor that can change your line endings from Mac
to another format such as DOS or a unix format. Of course, it would be
nice for the plugin to not care. I always forget this, and spend a few
more minutes than I want recalling the reason and working it out.

Cheers,
John

Let's assume your big map scale is 1:100 000 and the overview scale
is 1:1 000 000.

Go to the first tab of the layer properties window and switch the 'Enable scale
dependent rendering' on.
For the CORINE layer set scale ranges: min=1 max=50
and for the coastline set: min=50 max=1 (or anything very high)

Now if the scale is =< 1:500 000 only the coastline is displayed. If is >=
1:500
000, only the CORINE. Of course it works in the map canvas too, so don't be
surprised that one of the layers disappears from it.

really promising.

I'm here to report a bug, probably in the way ubuntu binairies are
packaged. To reproduce, follow the steps :

1 - you need ubuntu 8.10
2 - follow instructions on http://www.qgis.org/download/binaries.html to
get the software installed
3 - grab sample data from http://www.qgis.org/download/sample-data.html
4 - run qgis
5 - open the vector layer trees.shp from the samples
6 - open layer properties, go to the symbology tab
7 - change the legend type from "single symbol" to "graduated symbol"
8 - try to classify in 3 classes the AREA_KM2

when pressing the classify button, qgis crashes, with output :

@Borys: Either I don't understand how to do it or what I am asking for
is still not possible (as Marco said).

I want to have a small overview map of the study area (e.g. the
coastline vector map) and in the big map the land cover map (CORINE
let's say).

I select one map frame in the composer and then activate some layer in
the legend. Then I select the other map frame (in the composer) and I
activate some other map in the legend. Both maps (map frames) in the
princomposer are updated and show the same map.

I will try later on it...

I have some other receipts to make qgis crash by SIGABRT or by segfault,
under fairly standard usage. I'm not sure where the problems are,
though, so I'd like some advices before investigating more or filling
a bug report on the tracker. Thank you in advance.

[Qgis-user] Many crashes on ubuntu 8.10 with recommanded binairies

2009-02-17 Thread Paul R
Hello list,

this is my first post here, and I'd like first to thank all the people
involved in the Quantum GIS project. This looks already great, and
really promising.

I'm here to report a bug, probably in the way ubuntu binairies are
packaged. To reproduce, follow the steps :

1 - you need ubuntu 8.10
2 - follow instructions on http://www.qgis.org/download/binaries.html to
get the software installed
3 - grab sample data from http://www.qgis.org/download/sample-data.html
4 - run qgis
5 - open the vector layer trees.shp from the samples
6 - open layer properties, go to the symbology tab
7 - change the legend type from "single symbol" to "graduated symbol"
8 - try to classify in 3 classes the AREA_KM2

when pressing the classify button, qgis crashes, with output :

It's possible to print different layers even now but only if the maps are in
different scales (e.g. a main map + an overview). You can add all layers to the
map canvas and set the 'scale dependent rendering' to determine where to place
each of them.
