Re: [Qgis-user] Importing USGS DEMs
It works fine for me in qgis 1.0.2 as well as 1.2.0. What version of gdal? Mine is 1.6.0. My layer properties are set to single gray band using band 1 and a grayscale colormap. Also, the contrast enhancement setting is "Stretch to MinMax". John On Jun 27, 2009, at 3:01 PM, Brook Milligan wrote: John C. Yes, it seems that I can display the data using the 'pseudocolor' or 'freak out' (what exactly is that?) color maps. The 'grayscale' color map just gives a solid gray rectangle, whereas the 'colormap' option gives just a blank background. I would prefer a simple grayscale image. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this with qgis 1.0.2 compiled from source? Thanks for your help. Brook, Likely, you need to set the color options in the layer properties. I'm not too familiar with how you do that correctly, but maybe someone else will suggest the right steps. I'm using a build from trunk and it sets the color table correctly for me. You might try the 1.1.0 version if it is available for you OS. Unzipped it is an upper case F. Perhaps, I wasn't clear enough. I downloaded the file, unzipped it, and tried to import it into qgis v1.0.2. All I get is a gray rectangle (although the histogram of gray scale values seems reasonable). Here is the configuration of gdal: gdal-config --formats gxf gtiff hfa aigrid aaigrid ceos ceos2 iso8211 xpm sdts raw dted mem jdem envisat elas fit vrt usgsdem l1b nitf bmp pcidsk airsar rs2 ilwis rmf rik leveller sgi idrisi wcs bsb gif jpeg png pcraster My read of this is that gdal does have dem support. I have compiled both gdal and qgis from source. Are there any configuration options that I need to be paying attention to? Thanks for your help. Maybe we can post a letter to CTO/Decision makers and put a donate to the bug squashing effort page on the QGIS site. That way larger entities that are using QGIS might get the message. IE: the IT person goes to the site for a download and see's the letter, passes it to their boss and says, we should contribute as it will help our bottom line. At this point we just may not have reached the right ears with the message since the mailing list is a very small number of actual users and the wiki site, well somehow I doubt many people stumble across that.
