This makes it easier for developers to reproduce your issue and dive into it. Though it is possible that your description already rings a bell with one of the developers...? [Qgis-user] attribute actions oddities in 1.3.0?
Hello I am using Mimas 1.3.0 (do not have the build version handy) on windows installed using the stand alone installer, installed on laptop with Windows XP pro operating system. I am having a strange problem with the attribute action feature. I want to be able to play videos or view pictures associated with various points in my layer. I have input the path to vlc on my machine (in quotes) and then the path to the file (in quotes) using the %% argument to get the value in the attribute: "C:\program files\videolan\vlc\vlc.exe" "c:\pics_n_vids\%%" is the action. In my specific situation, I have 3 video attributes and 3 picture attributes (the value of each being the name of a video or picture file). So, I should be able to simply right click on one of those values from the Identify Results window and choose the action that I have called View. This worked perfectly fine in 1.0.1 (or was it 1.0.2??? - it is already replace so i cannot check but either way, it was working fine) KORE. But in 1.3.0 Mimas, something strange happens. The value that is sent to the VLC video player is not necessarily the value that I selected from the Identify Results window. The attribute values are correctly associated with the attribute name in the Identify Results window (i.e. video1 is shown to contain the correct filename, etc.) but the value that gets sent to the player can be the value from any of the other attributes listed in the Identify Results window. So I might have to select the value associated with video1 so as to see picture 2, or select the value displayed for picture3 so as to be able to play video1, for example. I am working from layers stored in PostGIS. I have tried to find any related issue on the forums but have not seen this situation discussed. Thanks for any insight on what I might be doing wrong, or for letting me know that it is the software and not me (so i can stop banging my head against the keyboard ;-) jd ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

[Qgis-user] Re: Attribute precision AND view selection only
I have a point shapefile that has latitude and longitude in decimal degrees as attributes. Out of the 1000 points, I only want to display certain points by using filtering. While I can select the filter, the display doesn't change. that is, it still shows all 1000 points. The attribute table shows only my filter, and I checked the "show selection only" box. So I did the next best thing and saved the selection as a shapefile, and loaded that new shapefile. However, the decimal degrees gets "rounded off" to an integer. I can see in the original attribute table there is a precision of 0 set for the latitude and longitude column, but I don't know how to change that to a precision of 00 to get my full latitude and longitude to show in the new shapefile. +1 Hopefully with close interaction with qgis as already mentioned. Can't wait to use it. Re: [Qgis-user] qgis as a data catalog browser and viewer
I think this is a good option: not a qgis plugin but a separate application. It's not just a matter of geting names and geographic positions, metadata makes the catalog a complex tool. Looking forward to it (and to see it fulfilling INSPIRE directives, so that remote catalogues can be searched and browsed) Are planing to include a metadata editor? Thanks, Ivan The data browser (code named GeoNibble at present) currently has the following features: * Browse directory tree * Preview supported raster and vector layers * Zoom and pan preview images * View metadata for raster and vector layers * Drag and drop support, including drop on QGIS A screenshot can be seen here: http://picasaweb.google.com/shermange/GNDB The browser is written in Python (PyQt) and requires the bindings for QGIS and GDAL/OGR. It is in early stages of development but functions pretty well as a data browser/preview/launcher. -gary ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
[Qgis-user] calculating distances between points
I have two CSV files which I've converted to VRTs containing points on the map. Maps are projected in UTM. How can I determine the distances of points in File #1 from points in File #2? By distance, I mean distance like as-the-crow flies. Is it possible to generate these values and add a column for them in the DBF table or some other file? I'm hoping to visualize answers to questions like: how often do events plotted in File #2 occurs in relation to the distance from points in File#1. Am sorry if I can't express myself in GIS terms.
