Currently we are developing Android client [1] for our own complex GIS
system Gisplan. It is GNU GPL with source code here [2], but until the
whole system will be opened it doesn't have much sense to use it.

Also I saw that Camptocamp is developing something [3].

All,

I'm currently running QGIS 'Kore' on my Windows XP machine. I'm not able to
use any of the GRASS functionality, though. It just doesn't work. I would
like to upgrade, but I'm afraid that newer versions won't work. Does anyone

 Hi

Yesterday I added a 'tip of the day' type dialog that appears when
QGIS starts. You have probably have seen a similar feature in other
applications. And no, before you ask, we are not going to implement a
'Mr. Paperclip' function next :-). Right now the tip list is rather
basic so I would like to invite everyone to submit your favourite
little tips for QGIS. Here are some guidelines:

 - The tip should have a short title
 - The tip content should be short - one or two paragraphs
 - Simple HTML formatting can be used for the tip, including links, lists
 etc.
 - Tips should be broadly useful and perhaps reveal functionality that
 users may have otherwise overlooked.

 Here is an example submission:

Title: Quick access to project properties
Content: You can quickly access the project properties dialog by
clicking on the icon in the bottom right corner of the window in the
 status bar area.

If you are a developer, you can add tips directly to
src/app/qgstipfactory.cpp - it should be self explanatory what to do
when you look at the source.

I am looking iOS and Android lately for GIS apps. It seems that iOS is
quite advance in this area.

I hope that Android GIS apps will support features for offline
purposes. It needs to support:

a. Spatialite - viewing Spatialite spatial queries, and
b. MbTiles - MapBox Tiles using Sqlite.

Hello

I detected a problem in 1.7.0-73 and 1.7.0-74 builds (OSGeo4W) on Windows XP.

When you open the Layer Properties - Symbology of raster images (3-band
rasters), QGIS automatically switches the Red, Green and Blue bands to Band 1,
making the image black and white.

This has not happened in previous builds I've used.

Hi Herman,
please keep your questions on the mailing list.
No QGIS for Android; AFAIK, Qt libraries have not (yet?) been ported to
Android, so it is currently rather difficult.
I guess a Linux tablet is your best option here, at least for now.

Hi, we are creating some Android GIS apps for some 6 months. From my
point of view, there are so different use cases on mobile devices,
that porting applications like QGIS and customizing it, can be much
more harder than write a new one using Android's native language and
libraries.

So far probably there has not been a compelling reason to port it to
Android. Plus, this is a Free and Open Source project, you have full
access to the code, feel free to grab the code and port it to any
platform, if you got the knowledge. Otherwise you can pay someone to do
that if you have a solid business caseor just wait and the community
will do so in future when enough developers got time/money to port it to
android.

Hello

I detected a problem in 1.7.0-73 and 1.7.0-74 builds (OSGeo4W) on
Windows XP.

When you open the Layer Properties - Symbology of raster images
(3-band rasters), QGIS automatically switches the Red, Green and Blue
bands to Band 1, making the image black and white.

This has not happened in previous builds I've used.

Regards, Pedro Venancio

It's is happening since at least two weeks, one of my users reported it
and i was able to reproduce it on all my rgb dataset but i've forgotten
to report it in the trac, sorry.

Hi Herman,
please keep your questions on the mailing list.
No QGIS for Android; AFAIK, Qt libraries have not (yet?) been ported to
Android, so it is currently rather difficult.
I guess a Linux tablet is your best option here, at least for now.
All the best.

Hi Pedro,

For scale you can place a scalebar and then select style "Numeric". The only
issue I see is that you can't select a text-alignment. Currently, it is always
left aligned. A future version should also support center and right aligned
scalebars/scale values.

I know - it is a bit confusing that you have to select a scalebar for a numeric
scale values - that's why we should probably also do a tip on that.

Tim - here is another tip:

-
Title: Numeric scale value in map layout linked to map frame
Content: If you want to place a text label as a placeholder for the current
scale, linked to a map frame, you need to place a scalebar and set the style to
'Numeric'. You need to select the map frame, if there is more than one.
