[Qgis-user] points with altitude

2013-10-08 Thread Levente Kovacs
Is there enay way to record altitude in qgis?

Can one calculate distance of points that are near in terms of 2D
coordinates, but they are far away regarding altitude?

Say if I want to calculate radio link losses from a repeater located on a
hill, and an end station residing down in the city.

Can I create a mesh between two 3D points? This applies if I have 3D map... I
guess.

Thanks,
Levente

will the MapServer Export plugin be implemented in QGIS 2.0 in the

If yes we can describe it in the user manual again.

AFAIK the original plugin has been dropped. We are busy rewriting a
fuller replacement, as an external plugin, based on mapscript.
Hope this helps.
All the best.

[Qgis-user] importing .dwg files in qgis 2.0 on ubuntu 12.04.02

2013-10-08 Thread Guus van den Berg

Hi,

Before a while I was able to open .dwg-files in Draftsight. This program
however still isn't available for 64bit ubuntu. The workarounds I used
before (for example:
http://linuxaideddesign.blogspot.nl/2012/03/draftsight-and-ubuntu-1204-lts-64bit.html)
all seem to clash on installing. Does anyone have a solution other than
DraftSight? Or am I missing a recent workaround? You'd be helping me out
seriously!

Hi Lucien,

You should definitely use the 2.0x releases. It is in most respects
better than the 1.x releases.

Here is a list of most of the new features:
http://changelog.linfiniti.com/version/1/ (don't be fooled about the
URL, it really describes the new features of version 2)
- Especially the new Processing toolbox and graphical modeler is new and
exciting.

If you are on Windows, you should definitely go with the 64bit version,
which is new as well.

As with all new features there are also bugs. If you rely on external
software like GRASS and SAGA there may still be some integration issues
we are working on. There will be updated installers that should fix
these issues.

As to compatibility: it mostly is, but there are some issues when going
from old to new symbology and from old to new labeling.

Hi Lucien,

Oh - I was falsely assuming you are on Windows. On Windows it is easy to
install QGIS 1.8 and 2.0 in parallel, by using the OSGeo4W installer. I
don't know about Linux if you do not compile from source.

If you compile from source it is easy as you can define the
CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX and you can write a small batch start-script to
start the other version. Something like:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/your/qgis/install/lib
/path/to/your/qgis/install/bin/qgis

Maybe other users know how to install already compiled versions in
parallel. My guess is that you would have to install the qgis libs in
separate folders and set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Thanks Arlindo! The links did'nt help in my case. However I found

You can find it in the Ubuntu Softwarecenter. According to the

to open and convert dwg to dxf just right.

I actually think in this case it's the Intel graphics drivers. I've
talked with some other who have had similar issues but only with the
splash screen (for QGIS and other graphics heavy programs).

So I think the best thing to pursue is checking Ubuntu bug reports for
Intel graphics driver fixes for the 945GM. There may actually be grub
based flags to help.

Some ideas:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/101028/unity-3d-not-supported-intel-945gm-graphics-card
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/543265

Changing window manager might work, or just logging in with Unity 2D
might even work.

I know on my 12.04 machine I have to run kernel 3.5 or newer for my
Intel HD4000 to work right.
