Re: [Qgis-user] CRS / reprojection problems

2019-05-21 Thread Nicolas Cadieux
Hi,

99 % of the time, the data is the problem because it’s in the wrong crs. Right
click on the problem layer in the layer panel and change the layer crs to what
is should be. Use a google or other base map from quickmap plugin. That
should permit you to find the correct CRS.

Sometimes, crs will have problems reprojecting across some latitudes or
longitude (like projections make for the poles). In that case, reprojecting
the data using the “save as” option will solve the problem.

Re: [Qgis-user] Fix Geometries

2019-05-21 Thread Nicolas Cadieux

Hi,

The Geometry Checker plugin will add a the 'Check Geometries' option in
the vector menu.  It is very unstable with the current version of QGIS.
If you get it to run, it should solve most problems.  I get it to run
when I only select one test at a time.

The most predictable tool is the vector/geometry tools/Check validity
using the 'QGIS' Method (not GEOS).  That should fix your file.  There
is a 'remove duplicate vertices' and 'delete duplicate geometries' in
processing.  Your problem could also be caused by a module not working
with multipart objects.  Go to vector/Geometry tools/Multiparts to
singleparts.

If your lines don't touch,   try the 'snap Geometries to layer ' in
processing.

Hi Finnbar,

You have a number of tools to check geometries. Try "Topology checker"
or "Geometry checker" to see where the problems are (invalid
geometries). Geometry checker is also able to fix some issues. Maybe
thats the one you use.

Anotehr option is GRASS GIS. Have you ever worked wit GRASS GIS? You
can create a GRASS database and import your polygons. GRASS GIS uses a
topolgical data model and is quite powerful in establishing a desent
data model with snapping options and clean functions. You can also try
GRASS tools from the processing framework like build polygons or clean.

When I save the output from the fixed geometries plugin and add it in

still seen as invalid even though they have been ‘fixed’.

Is there anyway solution to this or do I have to keep using the fix

[Qgis-user] QGIS 6.3 for macOS 10.14.5 : HELP

2019-05-21 Thread Nuno Manuel de Figueiredo de Santos Loureiro
Hi all,

I'm a very regular (happy) user of QGIS 2.18.23.
Recently I installed QGIS 6.3.2 on my Mac with macOS 10.14.5.
Several tasks are running very well but when I tried to merge a few rasters I
was not able to do that and I received the following message:

GDAL command output:
/bin/sh: gdal_merge.py: command not found

Also, when I tried to clip a raster using a mask layer I was not able to do
that and I received the following message:

GDAL command output:
/bin/sh: gdalwarp: command not found

What is missing or wrong?

Can somebody help me with some tips to fix this issue?

Many thanks in advance,

Nuno

Hi Nuno,

You need to set some environmental variables, so that the GDAL binaries can be
found.
William provides a nice step by step in file Read Me.txt

If you’ve already deleted the dmg I’ll paste it into a reply, but you should
read Read Me.txt because it contains other useful bits of information besides
the answer to your question.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 6.3 for macOS 10.14.5 : HELP

2019-05-21 Thread Nuno Manuel de Figueiredo de Santos Loureiro
Hi Ramon,

Many thanks.
I followed your recommendations.
However a few issues remain.
William wrotes:

/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.6/bin:/Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework/Versions/2.3/Programs:

in the step by step
But he also says that GDAL is 2.4 and not 2.3.

I checked in my computar and I have GDAL 1.11, 2.1, GDAL 2.2 and GDAL 2.4.
I believe that GDAL 1.11 and 2.1 is needed for QGIS 2.18.23, that GDAL 2.2 is
not needed and that GDAL 2.4 is needed for QGIS 3.6.2.
Is this true?

After, I changed the above line to

/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.6/bin:/Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework/Versions/2.4/Programs:

(only 2.3 to 2.4)

Finally the Merge a few rasters works well ;-)

But the following step, the Clip a raster using a mask layer is not working.
Instead I received the following message:

ERROR 1: Cutline polygon is invalid.

Note that the same task (Clip a raster using a mask layer) in QGIS 2.18.23
(using the same input layers) runs without any kind of troubles.

Ramon, have you any additional suggestions???

many thanks for your attention,

Nuno

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 6.3 for macOS 10.14.5 : HELP

2019-05-21 Thread Ramon Andinach
Hi Nuno,

Glad it’s mostly working.

QGIS (and its tools) slowly gets better at noticing invalid layers, and there
are a lot of changes between these two versions. I’d run one of the geometry
checkers over your layer, eg. Vector -> Geometry Tools -> Check Validity, and
see if that shows up anything.
If that doesn’t show anything I'm probably out, but maybe one of the others
could help as this isn’t a Mac specific error.

Regards,
Ramon.

Re: [Qgis-user] CRS / reprojection problems

2019-05-21 Thread Matt Boyd
Hi Nicolas and Alexandre,
I'm pretty sure that I've done as much as I can to make sure I haven't
screwed up the projections. I used to make those mistakes years ago when I
was first learning, lately the mistakes I've made are because I haven't
been paying attention... I'm pretty sure I'm paying attention this time.

This is a link to some data and a qgis file I'm using as an example
https://unimelbcloud-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/boydmc_student_unimelb_edu_au/EuUzfUvxA6NGmZOuYo8_fmkB0AvLldzBmXwq68mdwZvmcw?e=Ake4Qi

lineations_MGA54_projected is the shapefile with the correctly projected
information layer. - Known good data

If I change to a geogrpahic / unprojected coordinate system, for example
GDA94, this layer is not displayed and the canvas is blank.

If I export the lineations_MGA54_projected data to a new file as
unprojected GDA94 option, the re-projected data is wrong.

Thanks for your help

Matt

Hello Chintan,

Please provide more details about your problem. What did you do, what worked
well, what did not worked as expected? Which version of the plugin and QGIS are
you using? If the plugin throws an error, have a look into the QGIS-log. All
exceptions of the plugin will be logged there. Give me as much as possible
information, that I can reproduce your problem.

[Qgis-user] format of timestamps

2019-05-21 Thread Christoph Jung
Hello everyone,

I am a bit confused about dates/timestamps in QGIS. I created a column in
PostGIS to store timestamps in iso8601 format. If I load the table into QGIS
and open the attribute table, the timestamp will be shown like in pgAdmin:

Thats all fine. But when I export the table into GeoJSON (right click on the
layer - export), the format of the timestamp changes a bit:

I know that iso8601 offers different writings of the timestamps and both should
follow iso8601. But nonetheless the characters are differing. Is it a general
„problem“, did anybody noticed it before?

Hi Christoph,

On export you can also choose in the field export options to use the
display string (Check "Replace with displayed value" for this field).

In the layer properties -> attributes form of your layer it's possible
to define how QGIS will display and format your date, you might possibly
want to tune something in there too.

I hope that helps

Matthias

into QGIS and open the attribute table, the timestamp will be shown
like in pgAdmin:

Thats all fine. But when I export the table into GeoJSON (right click
on the layer - export), the format of the timestamp changes a bit:
I know that iso8601 offers different writings of the timestamps and
both should follow iso8601. But nonetheless the characters are
differing. Is it a general „problem“, did anybody noticed it before?

Sincerely,
Christoph
