Hi Grant,

One of my clients are heavy LTR user (still on 3.16) on Win11 working ok.

One ("work-aroundable") issue I had with a new plugin I'm building for them was
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/47165
But that one is not crashing QGIS or making it unstable.

Would be good to know what they are doing exactly AND which plugins they are
using.
Maybe they could also try to work with NO plugins first in a fresh profile and
gradually add the needed plugins?

Another option (not sure about this): install (osgeo4w) a version which
generates debug info, which give (for what I know) a more usable stacktrace?

Re: [Qgis-user] PDFs for testing documentation

2022-03-03 Thread Richard Duivenvoorde via Qgis-user

Hi Julian,

We are more or less planning to create a those sites in coming week.

But in general:
- when 3.22 is LTR we use current /testing version of the docs to create a
/3.22 in the docs site and we start translating it
- all newer versions will be redirected to the testing version (only in English)

So in your case you are right:
3.18, and up all point to the testing english version of the doc build
And apparently the pdf build is broken of that, I will look into it:
https://docs.qgis.org/testing/pdf/en/
In the meantime you could take 3.16 version:
https://docs.qgis.org/3.16/pdf/en/
those are also translated:
https://docs.qgis.org/3.16/pdf/

your other questions:
- every version has it own daily build but only LTR has translated builds
- you could/should take testing to have the latest version, we are working on
making that one 3.22 version

Regards,

Richard Duivenvoorde

Nice to know that tool did in fact exist. Just right click on the layer and
you should be able to define the layer crs. Do not use “save as” or “export”
to do this as such options would reproject the file in a new crs. You first
need to correct or specify the proper crs. Maybe it’s in the metadata.

Re: [Qgis-user] Extending an existing line with the vertex tool - combination with tracing possible?

2022-03-03 Thread Nicolas Cadieux via Qgis-user
Hi,

To my knowledge, when using the vertex tool, you click on the last node and
then, you can extend it once. I think you need to reclick the last node again
if you want to add a new point. I don’t do much vectorizing lately and in the
past, used AutoCAD to do it. There must be some other way of doing it. Maybe
there is a shortcut or something like the shift key we need to use. I would
check the user manual to see if there is an option under the vertex tool. I
see that lots of new tools have been added lately making QGIS a good contender
for tracing. I guess you could just create a new line and then merge both
together.

Just my grain of salt…

[Qgis-user] GoeJSON with nested JSON (advise please)

2022-03-03 Thread Andrew Hughes via Qgis-user
Hi All,

Seeking advice here...

The GeoJSON spec supports nested json within properties, see example #2 @
https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7946#section-1.5

It would appear that QGIS 3.16 is unable to load this as layers. I'm highly
skeptical about how much support there is for nested JSON not just in QGIS
but from all GIS technologies.

I'd really appreciate any words of wisdom on how best to deal with this.

Maybe things like:

   - Do it, it has enough support
   - Don't do this, nobody likes it ( gdal/ogr2ogr, postgres, esri e.t.c...)
   - Flatten the json (i.e. stringify) only when needed so no data is
   destroyed

Thank you

p.s. Here's an example if you wish to reproduce it, save locally as
*.geojson and drop it in qgis and it will not load. Remove the red nested
object and all will be fine.

Hi David,
could you copy the files of Shapefile layer from the external drive to a
local drive of your system and try to import it in QGIS? Does it result
valid or invalid?

If it is invalid also from the local drive, could you share the files

Re: [Qgis-user] shapefile import error

2022-03-03 Thread Kirk Schmidt via Qgis-user

Hi David

Just to Clarify Richards comments.  A shape file is a collection of
files, all with the same prefix.  At a minimum, you should have 3 files,
*.shp, *.shx and *.dbf.  There may also be a few more files as well
depending on how the file was created.  You may just have the  *.shp
file which is creating the error.

I have copied all these files from the unzipped folder and pasted in the

C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.6

Then, I ran the tool. I am getting the following error message. I am sorry
I have no knowledge of python scripting.

[Qgis-user] Latest QGIS installers

2022-03-03 Thread LE FLEM Olivier
Hello everyone,

Does the lastest QGIS released still have the .exe installers ?
I will need to use the QGIS 3.22.4 LTR by installing it with .exe installer but
I can only find the msi as installer.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Best regards,

Olivier LE FLEM

Re: [Qgis-user] geolocating a list of addresses

2022-03-03 Thread Francesca Parente
Thanks a lot Ujaval, now I see the points displayed!

The problem is different than I though then, because it's like this new
layer has a different scale with respect to the ones I was already working
on... how can I reconcile the two, in order to see the points within the
boundaries of related polygons?

Thank you so much once again!
Francesca

Right-click the layer and select 'Zoom to Layer'. If you still do not see
the points, it must be a problem with your CRS or the coordinates itself.

[Qgis-user] geolocating a list of addresses

2022-03-03 Thread Francesca Parente
Hello everyone and thank you for making this mailing list available!

I am using QGIS 3.18 and I have a list of punctual street addresses (along
with their latitude/longitude data), that I would like to display and
analyze.
I've already set a project with polygon layers and related attributes, in
which the locations should fit.
I imported the addresses in this project as a delimited text layer
(specifying the coordinates info in the geometry definition menu), but
nothing happened next - other than seeing it added to the project layers'
list.

I'm not sure on how to proceed further and any advice you may have would be
so very much appreciated.
Many thanks for your time and good day to all!
