Re: [Qgis-user] Interpolation not working in UTM projection through Raster menu

I am doing with .shp only and written also in my query as "I have a
shapefile of wells made from .csv table of points".
Only change this time is its projection from GCS long/lat (epsg:4326) to
UTM (epsg:32643).

Processing tool is working fine with UTM projection but 'Raster
menu>Interpolation' is not giving desired results. May kindly be checked
with any point shape file at your end, I may be wrong also or something may
be happening locally in my system.

[Qgis-user] Interpolation not working in UTM projection through Raster menu

2014-11-23 Thread Harish
Dear List, I have a shapefile of wells made from .csv table of points using
'Add delimited text layer' plugin with EPSG:4326 projection. I applied
Raster menu>Interpolation tool and it gives fine results using IDW method.
Previously also I have used this tool many times with EPSG:4326 projection.
Seeing the need this time of defining the cell/grid size in meters, I
converted the shape file's projection to UTM (EPSG:32643) but the result is
a raster layer every-time with blank canvas/data.

I tried many times but found same result, and then I tried processing tool
box for interpolation and it worked fine on shapefile with UTM projection,
but during giving inputs in IDW algorithm it is not asking any
cellsize/grid size and giving results with a predefined (perhaps) cell/grid
size.

Am I missing something? Guidance is requested.

Using windows-7, 32 bit, QGIS-2.6 (tried on previous versions also upto
QGIS-1.8)

Kind Regards

2013-12-06 Thread Harish
Dear List!
Has this discussion made previously in list or I am wrong at my point
described?
or communication gap due to poor English?

I want to repeat:
If we use 'No data value' as zero by selecting the check box in
Raster>Miscellaneous>Merge operation, it gives black color in no data
region of output image. We can temporarily see the no data portions
transparent by putting 'Additional no data value as zero in layer
Properties>Transparency but after removing it from project whenever image
is loaded again, it gives blackish no data areas.

In Raster>Extraction>clipper operation it works fine and no data areas in
output image remains transparent/white always.

Using QGIS2.0.1 win7 32 bit

*"The process crashed some time after starting successfully"*

[Qgis-user] Measurement tool's changes

2013-11-01 Thread Harish
Dear List,
In my last training I shifted to QGIS2.0.1, without homework and while
using 'Measure tool' it showed "Measure (OTF off)". Later It was resolved
by making 'OTF on' but for simplicity, I suggest to make 'Ellipsoidal'
check box available in QGIS2.0 also, on 'Measure tool' window, as in
previous version, so that area/length etc. may be shown without going into
Project properties>CRS & projections' details.

Dear List,
In QGIS1.8, we could see the installed plugins locations after
installation, but in 2.0 it is not seen and we have to use our experience
to guess its location after installation. Can this QGIS1.8 feature be
available in 2.0 also?

Same is happening here. "Add Delimited Tex Layer" plugin works well without
checking it in plugin list (by default it is unchecked there) but as soon
as we select the plugin check-box, it crashes QGIS.

Re: [Qgis-user] Topological editing of two vector layers

If the layers are digitized by different agencies and dissolving is time
consuming for each next higher level, then the automatic snapping of
boundaries within tolerance distance, with keeping one layer as correct
layer will be a useful feature.

[Qgis-user] GPS Tools plugin

2013-01-15 Thread Harish
I am not able to 'Download from GPS' & 'Upload to GPS' using model 'Garmin
Map78S' in .

OS is Windows-7 32 bit.
GPSBabel-1.4.4-Setup.exe is installed. Port used is usb:.

After reading official tutorial's 'Defining new device types' section,
*Waypoint
download* command line is changed as:

*gpsbabel -w -i garmin -o gpx usb: F:\test\hks.gpx *

Message appears is* 'The layer F:/test/hks.gpx?type=waypoint is not a valid
layer and can not be added to the map'*

What to do further? Is there any previous discussion for this?

I guess that it may be like digitising lines of specified length and
our cursor will be indicating length of segment during digitization,
as being done in Measure tool presently. Will be useful in digitising
lines of predefined lengths.

Re: [Qgis-user] Difference in Area/Perimeter calculations

2012-07-11 Thread Harish
Now let us go deeper.

I tried one polygon of the same layer having area of around 1300 hectares.
I keep layer in Projected form as 32643 and used area calculate tool from
Attribute tool bar. I keep snapping of 20 pixels for the layer so that my
cursor should not deviate. The area comes as 13.099 Sqkm which is equal to
13099000 sqm. (layer was in UTM and tool used ellipsoid as per default in
Measure tool).

Now we look at area calculated by 'Export/Add geometry tool' previously
using ellipsoid and layer CRS (UTM) for the same polygon which comes
13108140.7 sqm and 12988046.4 sqm. respectively. The difference between
ellipsoidal measurement comes to 9140.7 (about 1 ha.) meter which may be
rounding error, and error is around .076 percent. The area difference
between ellipsoidal and projected measurement for same polygon comes to
116094.30 sqm around 16 hectare. so error is 1.23 percent which may rise
when area will increase.

The same can be repeated with the original data I have attached previously.

So if I am farmer or government surveyor which method I should use?

Regards

Harish

OK, This is not a big issue but we use *'Ellipsoidal' *measurements

This is to be checked later, what effect it may put on precise measurements

Re: [Qgis-user] Area Calculation in Field Calculation

2012-07-08 Thread Harish
Yes I was a problem of version. I was using 1.8 on a system where 1.7.4 was
also installed and probably plugin did not update itself with installation
of 1.8. When I installed 1.8 on a machine which doesn't have any version of
QGIS, it showed correct window.

Thanks

[Qgis-user] Area calculation in field calculator

2012-07-06 Thread Harish
1-
I converted projection 4326 to 32643(UTM zone 43N) to get are calculation.
I used geometry operator as $area with creating a new field of decimal
(real) type with width 10 and 2 precision. I tried with different widths
and precisions, every time there are 7-8 digits after decimal, like,
2361773.81506348
2895003.41503906
1384160.6237793
10020411.4874268

2
Further I read in new functionality list of QGIS1.8 that area/length etc.
may be calculated by using project (if in metric units) CRS in QGIS 1.8,
without changing original CRS of layer if it is in Geographic coordinates.
Is this feature available in 1.8?

The new feature in 1.8:

   - Export/add geometry column tool can export info using layer CRS,
   project CRS or ellipsoidal measurements

Not able to use with changing project CRS and On The Fly both, tried with
field calculator also with geometry. What is right way?

[Qgis-user] Slope and area/length calculations with Geographic CRS

2012-01-11 Thread Harish
Respected All,

When we have to calculate area/length in polygon/line vector layers we
have to convert Geographic CRS of the layer in Projected CRS, and in raster
DEM for slope calculations the same is to be done.

I am providing continuous free practical trainings to the Government
officials in India of 5-6 days on Application of Desktop QGIS in
Watershed/Rural Development schemes and in this duration I don't want to
put the trainees deep in the matter of Coordinate Reference System and want
to do everything in GCS-WGS1984. Can there be any solution presently or in
future for calculating area/length in vector and slope etc. in DEM with
geographic coordinate system.

Regards

Harish

Re: [Qgis-user] increase decimal precision in the georeferencer GCP table

2011-12-13 Thread Harish
I have also observed the same when I applied georeferencer plugin with
having more than two digits decimal values of GCPs, it is giving distorted
results, it means it is using values of GCP table, instead of saved GCP
file.

Matter requires attention of developers.

Presently we can clip in Box form, Is any future version is going to have
