Re: [Qgis-user] Problem zooming in on ECW files in QGIS

2014-05-30 Thread Stefan Sylla
I had the same issue. Unfortunately I did not find a way to solve it,
however, I am doing a workaround by converting the ecw-files into JPEGs
using gdal_translate (in QGIS this would be under Raster Conversion
translate). The JPEGs will have the same size as the ecw's and you get
rid of that zoom-problem and many other issues caused by ECW.

On 05/31/2014 03:41 AM, CornGiS [via OSGeo.org] wrote:
I opened a 490mb ecw image in QGIS on my mac (using the ecw 1.10.1

The ecw is loaded in less than a second, but it seems that QGIS does
not manage to completely uncompress the ecw file, as zooming in
results in a blurry picture. If I open the ecw file using IrfanView I
can zoom in without any problem and get a decent picture..

Did anybody have a similiar experience? Does anybody know how to fix
this problem? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

2014-05-05 Thread Stefan Sylla
The same happened for me. Unfortunately I did the upgrade without
testing and it destroyed my python-qgis installation. I removed
http://qgis.org/debian from my sources list, removed qgis and installed
it again from the Ubuntu 14.04 standard repo, so now I have QGIS 2.0
installed. When I try to re-add the deb http://qgis.org/debian repo and
upgrade, all qgis-related packages are being kept back.

ok, I have to update/correct my last post. So I did exactly as described
above (trying to upgrade QGIS 2.0 by re-adding http://qgis.org/debian
repo), and when I upgraded all qgis-related packages were kept back except
for python-qgis and python-qgis-common, which were installed successfully.
After I finished the upgrade, I updated again and then the remaining qgis*
packages were also installed. So I am back to QGIS 2.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 now.

[Qgis-user] edit joined fields

2014-04-22 Thread Stefan Sylla
I have a point layer (parent entity) and a child-table that I joined to the
parent point layer (1:1 relation). The join is working fine and I can see
the attributes of the child table once I open the attribute table of the
point layer. However I am not able to edit the attributes of the child
table, even if I set the table status to edit.

Is there any way to make the attributes of a joined layer editable within
the attribute table/form of the parent table?

Re: [Qgis-user] edit joined fields

2014-04-22 Thread Stefan Sylla
Thanks Matteo,

you can save the joined layer (parent+child) as a new layer. This way,
when you load it in QGIS, its attribute table is *unique* and you can
 style as your wishes.

my problem is that both of my layers are stored in a Postgis database and it
does not help me if I have to create a new layer which would then not refer
to the original tables anymore.
Of course, a workaround could be a new layer inside the database that would
then update the original tables with a trigger function. But I was wondering
if there is an easier way to go in QGIS.

You have to add the Saucy repository to your sources file:

sudo [name_of_your_editor] /etc/apt/sources.list

add the following lines at the bottom of this file:

deb http://qgis.org/debian saucy main
deb-src http://qgis.org/debian saucy main

Save the file and run:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install qgis python-qgis

Re: [Qgis-user] Lao font not workng under QGIS 1.8 on windows

2013-02-01 Thread Stefan Sylla
Solution 1:
- Go to folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Quantum GIS Lisboa\bin
- open file 'qgis.bat' in a text editor
- add below '@echo off':
'SET SHAPE_ENCODING=UTF-8' (without quotes)

If this does not help, move on to Solution 2:
within the folder of your shapefile, create an additional .cpg-file that
contains the ID of the encoding used. For example if encoding UTF-8,
.cpg-file contains the following record: “UTF-8” (without quotes). Make sure
the cpg-file has the same name as your shapefile , e.g. if your shp-file is
named mymap.shp the cpg-file should be named mymap.cpg). For further

[Qgis-user] Lao font not workng under QGIS 1.8 on windows

2012-10-09 Thread Stefan Sylla
Dear QGIS Users Developers,

we use QGIS for Land registration and land use planning in the
framework of capacity building inside the Laotian government system.

Since using QGIS 1.8, we face the following problem with lao fonts:
when loading a shapefile (UTF-encoding enabled) with lao font entries
in the attribute table it doesn`t show up properly, only cryptic
signs. We use Windows 7 as operating system (but same problem on
Windows XP). Does anybody have a solution for that?

On QGIS 1.7.4 and older versions lao font always worked properly.

[Qgis-user] cadastral mapping

2012-10-08 Thread Stefan Sylla
Dear all,

I have a general question concerning the capabilities of QGIS for
cadastral mapping. Even though I have been using QGIS for a long time
now I cannot judge about this issue, as I am not a surveyor and did
not really touch this area of QGIS yet.

I am working for an international organization that has been using
QGIS for several years already in the area of land-use planning. To
step further into the use of QGIS for cadastral mapping we need to
locate the gaps of surveying-functionality that are still there and
need to be developed.

If there is anybody out there who can provide a list of core surveying
functionality that is still missing for QGIS (compared e.g. to AutoCAD
or ArcGIS) would be of great help.

[Qgis-user] qgis 1.7 geotiff problem

2011-06-17 Thread Stefan Sylla
Dear list,

I have some very large geotiff-files (up to 10 GB) from satellite imagery
that I need to load into QGIS. To speed up the rendering, I created pyramids
on those images with gdaladdo. In QGIS 1.6 this worked very fine and the
images where loaded (after adding them with Add Raster Layer) within a few
seconds.

Now, after I updated to QGIS 1.7, it takes several minutes to load the
images into QGIS with Add Raster Layer (after being loaded, however,
everything works fine and I can zoom in and out without any time-consuming
rendering processes).

Anyone has an idea why QGIS 1.7 takes so much time to load the images, as it
was working fine in QGIS 1.6?

I am using QGIS on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit.
