Re: [Qgis-user] how does QGIS generate the EPSG from a Shapefile?

2018-10-25 Thread ralfwessels
Hi Rodrigo,

Only if the shapefiles contain a prj-file (with the right informations about
the coordinate system) QGIS opens it automatically correct.

If you use shapefiles with OGR you either need to specify the EPSG Code like

   ogr2ogr -a_srs EPSG:2066 output.shp input.shp

or - if you have - the prf-file like

   ogr2ogr -a_srs input.prj output.shp input.shp

Re: [Qgis-user] Cannot load WFS data

2016-09-23 Thread ralfwessels
hi guglhupf,
I just tried it with QGIS 2.14-6 and after a few minutes I cancelled the WFS
request, because nothing happened. On the Website of the provider
(http://www.stadtentwicklung.berlin.de/geoinformation/geodateninfrastruktur/de/geodienste/wfs.shtml)
it says, that this service has 24.323 poly objects. This is quit a lot and I
tried it with the filter "BEZIRK" = 'Mitte' to reduce the amount of
objects.
Then it worked like charme an I got 1.369 poly objects within the district
'Mitte'.

Re: [Qgis-user] Cannot load WFS data

2016-09-23 Thread ralfwessels
Hi Heinrich,
yes all the 1.369 polygon objects were loaded and rendered correctly in my
QGIS, when I used the filter "BEZIRK" = 'Mitte'. I also tried it with
"BEZIRK" = 'Pankow' and it also worked out well, but it took 2:13 min to
load the 2.698 poly objects.
In QGIS you can set an individual timout for network requests under Settings
> Options > Network Menu (Einstellungen > Optionen > Netzwerk). Default is
6 ms (60 seconds).
In my QGIS I set the timeout up to 6.000.000 to load bigger data or in case
the internet connection is slow.
When I tried to load the WFS-data with default timeout, after 60 seconds I
got the (german) error message "Zeitüberschreitung bei
Netzwerkabfrage...dauerte zu lange"

Re: [Qgis-user] Cannot load WFS data

2016-09-26 Thread ralfwessels
Hi Heinrich,
I tried WFS
"http://fbinter.stadt-berlin.de/fb/wfs/geometry/senstadt/re_0411_str_2010";
and also got only 1000 objects, so I guess this is a provider problem from
SenStadtUm.
I tried it with the normal QGIS WFS loader, with the QGIS Plugin "WFS 2.0
Client" (because the service is also provided in WFS 2.0 and with ArcGIS,
but in all cases I just got 1000 objects.
In your case I would contact thw Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung und
Umwelt Berlin under +49-30-90139-5257 and ask for problems with this
service. About 2 years ago I had similar problems getting data over WFS from
here and the told me that they had some technical problems, so they sent me
the data as Shapefiles - they were very friendly!

I also figured out that the option "only request objects intersecting with
current view" is also not working for me - just got 1 object, so I guess
this is a bug.
The good thing is, this option is also available within the Plugin "WFS 2.0
Client" and here it works

Re: [Qgis-user] Edit in coordinates for points manually

2016-12-05 Thread ralfwessels
Hi Lene,

there is a panel called "Vertex Editor" which is available when you start
the Node Tool to edit vertices in point, lines and polygons.
Here you can edit by writing the x,y coordinates.
I don't know if it should show up automatically, but if not you have to
activate this panel under View > Panels. You can only activate it, when the
Node Tool is selected before.

This is for editing. If you like to digitize points by writing the
coordinates I can recommend the "NumericalDigitize"-plugin.

[Qgis-user] problem with reshape features tool in epsg_4326 (wgs84)

then you probably have 2 Shapes with different coordinate systems - kml is
always wgs84 (epsg:4326).
You have to enable 'on-the-fly' CRS transformation, then it should fit

If you need a background map, try the "OpenLayers Plugin". Ther you have the

Re: [Qgis-user] Area calculation tools

2014-11-14 Thread ralfwessels
Hi Stephane,
if you calculate areas (or length) with the "Add geometry Columns"-Tool, the
results depend on the settings you can make under "Calculate using". Here
you have the options Layer CRS, Project CRS or Ellipsoid.
Ellipsoid is calculating with the curvature of the earth (so far I know) and
the others depending on the CRS' of the layer or the project (when 'on the
fly' CRS transformation is enabled).
If you are using $area in the field calculator it depends if 'on the fly'
CRS transformation is enabled or not.
If it is not enabled it calculates with the layer CRS, if it is enabled it
should calculate with the project CRS.

These are my testing experiences so I'm not 100% sure, but maybe there is
someone who has more informations about this topic.

Re: [Qgis-user] Which tool/referecence for adress geocoding ?

2015-01-14 Thread ralfwessels
hi image93,

there is a nice geocoding tool within the QGIS Plugin "MMQGIS" where you can
load csv-files and geocode with Google or OSM data (Nominatim).

You also can use the GPSVisualizer service at
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoder/ where you also can geocode multiple
addresses - here with Google, Bing or MapQuest but you need to generate a
key before.

Consider that all of the geocoding services have limits except if you
geocode addresses with Nominatim but here the results mostly not so precise.

Re: [Qgis-user] Openlayers Plugin / WMS : update, accuracy ?

2015-02-13 Thread ralfwessels
hi image93,

to 3: You probably won't find more recent data served by WMS and providers
like Google, Microsoft or Apple will not serve mapdata by WMS at all (just
as tiles).
But there are some OSM mapstyles served as WMS. At OSM wiki you will find a
list of possible WMS based on OSM data
(http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WMS).
Another big advantage using WMS instead of tiles from the OpenLayers Plugin
is the much better quality when printing e.g. as background map.

[Qgis-user] QGIS 2.8.2 no values calculating area with Export/Add Geometry Columns on Ellipsoid

2015-05-30 Thread ralfwessels
Hi all,
I tested the area calculating functions in QGIS 2.8.2 and figured out, that
I just get zero values when using the function Vector > Geometry Tools >
Export/Add Geometry Columns calculating on Ellipsoid.
I tested it with shape-files and PostGIS-Layers with the QGIS Windows
Installer Version 64bit.
I suppose this is a bug in version 2.8.2 because it works in 2.6
In 2.8.2 it also works when calculating on Layer CRS or Project CRS, but not
on Ellipsoid.
Can someone reproduce this error?

Another strange thing when using the Export/Add Geometry Columns - function
ist the message (see screenshot) I always get when click OK to execute the
function.

Is this warning normal? I don't have the layers attribute table open.

Best greetings from Berlin

Hi,
thanks for that hint.
Could be that 'my' problem is related to the other problems "calculating the
correct area in QGIS".
The 'right way' to calculate areas in QGIS seems to be a never ending story
as I can remember bugs and errors in earlier versions, too.
I know calculating areas in GIS is a complex topic, because different
parameters can affect the result.
But - as area calculating is probably one of the mostly used functions in
QGIS - it should be possible to create a stable, easy and user-friendly
solution.
I'm a GIS trainer and as long QGIS has problems with this function I will
recommend my students to use PostGIS (ST_Area...) to calculate areas they
can trust.

best greetings from Berlin
Ralf

Hi,

I haven't looked at how the QuickOSM plugin deals with the issue,
does it update the layer definition on every pan and zoom operations ?

No, the QuickOSm-Plugin is not updateing on every pan or zoom - it just
loads the object for the current map extent (if this is not to big though).
But as a first step this would be ok to load data from PostGIS tables.

So if the QuickOSM Plugin uses the current map extents, thsee must be
