Re: [Qgis-user] flatpak qgis on CentOS 7 hangs on Project Save after displaying dbus error

2020-11-02 Thread Alexandre Neto
Hi Todd,

Bear in mind that the conda installation from conda-forge, which is not
officially supported by QGIS.org, is missing support for QtWebkit. This
limits its usage in many aspects, including the 3D viewer and some very
nice plugins.

It's a long-known issue, but no one was able to fix it so far.

Best regards,

It's this one : https://github.com/flathub/org.qgis.qgis

I think that's a reasonable suggestion. Perhaps something along the lines of

"While there's also flatpak, snap and anaconda versions of QGIS
available, these are not officially supported and have some serious
known issues."

That would alert users to their presence while still effectively
"washing upstream's hands clean" of any responsibility for these!

Not a problem, I certainly wasn't expecting any support from anyone.
This isn't my first foss rodeo - been doing this for 30+ years. I just
followed up here to close the loop on my original posting and to let
others know what worked for me. I'm sure I could install the whole kit
from source if I still had the patience (and lower workload) that I had
decades ago.

I may very well later have to use a different installation method if we
find out that the Anaconda installation isn't up to snuff or is lacking
features needed by the folks that I support, but we'll cross that bridge
when it comes.

I wasn't able to find anything about a Flatpak QGIS community, neither
mentioned on the QGIS installers page which mentions the Flatpak
installer, nor via google, which I tried that before posting anything to
this list. Maybe my google fu is weak.

I wouldn't have even known there was an Anaconda installer for QGIS if I
hadn't happened to be watching this list and seen the post from another
user with a Flatpak problem who mentioned the Anaconda installer.

Perhaps someday someone will update the QGIS Installers page and:
- add your "heads up" note to the Flatpak section,
- add an Anaconda section,
- add your "heads up" note to the Anaconda section,
- replace or augment the ancient RHEL/CentOS section with suggestions to
try the Flatpak and Anaconda installers for more current QGIS versions,
which is known to work as reported by other users on this list but which
is not supported as per the "heads up notes" in those other section.

cheers,
Todd

Just a heads-up -- neither the Flatpak nor anaconda releases are
supported by QGIS.org. For all support for these you'd need to reach
out to their corresponding communities, not the upstream QGIS support
platforms.

Hope that clarifies!

2020-11-01 Thread Todd Pfaff
Since I got no response to this, I've given up on the flatpak deployment
of QGIS.

After seeing a different problem report from another flatpak QGIS user on
this list, and seeing them mention the Anaconda QGIS installation, I've
reinstalled QGIS with the latest version of Anaconda3 for linux x86_64 and
the problem I was having with flatpak QGIS is resolved.

  Warning: Failed enumerating UDisks2 objects:
  "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Disconnected"

and then QGIS becomes unresponsive and has to be killed with CTRL-C.

Anyone have any ideas about what the problem is?

Anyone else successfully running flatpak qgis on CentOS 7 and not
encountering this problem?

[Qgis-user] flatpak qgis on CentOS 7 hangs on Project Save after displaying dbus error

2020-10-20 Thread Todd Pfaff
I have a flatpak installation of QGIS 3.10, just installed today, on a
CentOS 7 system. I launch QGIS from an xterm with the command line:

flatpak run --share=network --command=bash org.qgis.qgis \
-c "DISPLAY=$DISPLAY qgis $*"

When a Project Save is attempted the following messages are displayed in
the terminal:

  Warning: Failed enumerating UDisks2 objects:
  "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Disconnected"
   "Not connected to D-Bus server"

and then QGIS becomes unresponsive and has to be killed with CTRL-C.

Anyone have any ideas about what the problem is?

Anyone else successfully running flatpak qgis on CentOS 7 and not

[Qgis-user] Flatpak

2019-03-21 Thread Raphael Das Gupta

Heya all

I know that https://qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#flatpak
lists the flatpak for QGIS "Stable" (is that the same as LTR?) as
"experimental", but does anyone at least read issues that are being
filed? (No offense intended, just genuinely wondering whether this is
still being maintained.)

I'd be particularly interested in the ones I've filed myself:

https://github.com/flathub/org.qgis.qgis/issues/24 make QGIS 3.4.5
(latest LTR) available
https://github.com/flathub/org.qgis.qgis/issues/25 Can QGIS 3.6.0
(latest non-LTR) be installed through flatpack?

I'd like to help with updating the flatpack to QGIS 3.4.5, but can't
even get its current version (3.4.4) nor the flatpak repo's master
branch (QGIS 3.6.0) to build locally, yet.
(https://github.com/flathub/org.qgis.qgis/issues/26 ; though maybe
that's due to my kinda exotic operating system. But I guess issues with
the build process are more a topic for qgis-develo...@lists.osgeo.org
than for qgis-user, anyway?)

Cheers,
Raphael
