Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 project fails to load in QGIS 1.7
Thanks Alister, I've got that working. So I've got a basic scripting confidence boost out of that, and another way to check out errors. Turns out Morten is closer to the mark. I went back through the XML (which looks ok to me) and suddenly wondered where the files where located. Turns out that the ones that aren't working are set using absolute paths, to a drive letter that has subsequently been taken up as a shared volume on a server 700km distant. So I guess they were working after all, just very, very slowly. My thanks to both of you, otherwise I'd be rebuilding these projects. -ramon. As well as using debugview, you might want to check what messages are printed to stdout. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 Wrocław_problem copying entities after Joins
Sorry that was clumsy. Could you not save the join as a csv or a shape file and then open that up in excel? So for the join I usually do, I only want parts of the join, so I select the bits I want and use save selection as to save that out. Usually I save that as a shp file, but even then the dbf can still be opened in excel. Admittedly I'm not using postgis, so there might be a postgis thing... -ramon. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 Wrocław_problem copying entities after Joins
Thanks Ramon for your answer. I tryed to save the layer as a shp but it didn't work since the name of the colomns of the joined table were at times too long to be accepted by the shp (10 characters maximum). I finally managed to figured it out, the problem being nothing but the edition mode. In order to copy the selection, the vector layer mustn't be in the edition mode, because the joined table is supposed to permit no alteration. It was as simple as that. Edition off and the selection and copy into a spreadsheet is possible. Cheers Stanca On Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 3:51 PM, Ramon Andiñach cust...@westnet.com.auwrote: Sorry that was clumsy. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 Does not load after installation
Hi Nome, Have you tried installing QGIS with administrator rights? Right-click on the installation file and select 'run as administrator'. Install the program that way and see if it solves your problem. Another thing you can try: I once had a problem where QGIS wouldn't load and eventually tracked the problem down to the program nircmd.exe which is used to run the batch file that launches QGIS. The antivirus software on the computer in question was flagging nircmd as a virus and preventing it from running. Maybe this is the cause of your problem? Try double-clicking the qgis.bat file in the qgis folder to see if you can run it that way. Frank. [Qgis-user] qgis 1.7 on Microsoft server 2003 not launching
Hi list, Very happy with Qgis 1.7 for my own use, we are trying to deploy it for users working on a Citrix XenApp Network with Microsoft Server 2003. The previous version 1.6 installed through the standalone windows installer worked fine. We installed the 1.7 , with the standalone windows installer too, on two developpement servers with my system administrator. We get a launch error message with the following error code 0xc06d007e on both servers. It looks like a conflict on a memory location but we found very few matching results on the web. We checked updates on microsoft visual c++ redistributable 2005. it was correctly installed. We previously had the visual c++ redistributable 2010. Does anyone has any idea or clue ? We really count on that version to switch our users to qgis, and then be able to contribute (financially too) to the project. If you just want to use it as a basemap then I'm guessing you just add it like a regular raster. If you want to use it to drape other data over so you can do 3D I'm not sure if QGIS could do that or if it would be the best solution - there are other open-source GIS's for that. Hope that helps. [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 (Print Composer) stability issues (Win XP)
Hey all, My experience with 1.7 has been good and really bad. I really like the new features, especially the ability to switch between Old and New Symbology. The trouble started with Print Composer. First, it was Legend issues (a white band appears at the top of the Legend, extending to the top of the Composer). After a bit of troubleshooting (I switched off all the layers in Map View and switched them on again, one at the time), the Legend was almost working again (but really slow). The 'white band' would only be present if certain layers were added to the Map View. Secondly, and the most critical issue, is that QGIS crashes when I save the Print Composer as an Image (tiff). 'Save as PDF' works fine. So, after a few crashes yesterday, I re-installed 1.6 and I am happy again. Funny thing is, a few months back, before 1.7 stable was announced, I had both 1.6 and qgis-dev working fine. Hopefully I'll spend a bit more time troubleshooting the 1.7 issues. [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 and Ubuntu GIS packages, was qgis-grass-plugin dependency issue
I have run into the same problem. The mix and match between the QGIS and Ubuntu GIS repositories is not pleasant. Until the current QGIS 1.7 release, exclusively using the Ubuntu GIS repository was a just works experience. I have also noticed a big performance degradation between the 1.6 and 1.7 releases in terms of the length of time it takes to render a shapefile. In addition, I'm getting rendering errors for files that rendered just fine in 1.6, and have no problems in either uDig, and gvSIG. I thought it might be due to the shapefiles being less than perfect, so I cleaned them in GRASS. The cleaned files also have rendering errors, but those errors are slightly different than for the original files. I'd be happy to send these files along if someone in the development team is interested. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) on two machines, one 32 bit, the other 64 bit, with the underlying support stack largely coming from the Ubuntu GIS repo. My hunch at this moment is that there is something in the Ubuntu GIS based stack that this release of QGIS doesn't play well with. [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 - no grass setup request
Hi, I'm wondering 2 things. 1 - Is it posssable to include a download link on the http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Download page, so then users can download all previous versions. .. rather than having user dig for it here http://download.osgeo.org/qgis/ which is a maze of directories. (for those people like me who want to use QGIS but the program does not uninstall correctly, especially when the variation versions from the osgeo website were downloaded. .. .having 2 separate locations for this download, both being 'official' doesn't really make sence. 2 - it is possible to include a 'no-grass setup' or simply hide the fact that grass (the background program) is installed. Or have it as an option during the setup process. .. so those who want to have a larger program can choose to download it. And for those who want a 'lite' version, can simply do so. This will avoid the problems when trying to uninstall... as it is only 1 complete program that users need to install. In many programs. there is the option to include a prompt for 'Advanced' 'Custom' 'basic' and 'complete' setup.
