Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 project fails to load in QGIS 1.7

2011-09-16 Thread Ramon Andiñach
Thanks Alister, I've got that working. So I've got a basic scripting confidence
boost out of that, and another way to check out errors.

Turns out Morten is closer to the mark.

I went back through the XML (which looks ok to me) and suddenly wondered where
the files where located. Turns out that the ones that aren't working are set
using absolute paths, to a drive letter that has subsequently been taken up as
a shared volume on a server 700km distant.

So I guess they were working after all, just very, very slowly.

My thanks to both of you, otherwise I'd be rebuilding these projects.

qgis batch file which is needed to be able to start qgis. Then I can start
qgis from rxvt and see the output ☺... like on a real operating system

 Hi there,

I have a peculiar problem where some of my project files that say they're 1.7
 are suddenly refusing to open.

Debug view is silent on the matter.

This is on windows7 64-bit with a 1.7 install via osgeo
I'm getting a similar result with a nearby standalone 1.7 install.

 Are there any likely causes?

2011-09-13 Thread Ramon Andiñach
Sorry that was clumsy.

Could you not save the join as a csv or a shape file and then open that up in
excel?

So for the join I usually do, I only want parts of the join, so I select the
bits I want and use save selection as to save that out. Usually I save that
as a shp file, but even then the dbf can still be opened in excel.

Admittedly I'm not using postgis, so there might be a postgis thing...

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 Wrocław_problem copying entities after Joins

2011-09-13 Thread Stanca Lazarescu
Thanks Ramon for your answer. I tryed to save the layer as a shp but it
didn't work since the name of the colomns of the joined table were at times
too long to be accepted by the shp (10 characters maximum).

I finally managed to figured it out, the problem being nothing but the
edition mode. In order to copy the selection, the vector layer mustn't be in
the edition mode, because the joined table is supposed to permit no
alteration. It was as simple as that. Edition off and the selection and copy
into a spreadsheet is possible.

Cheers

Hi Duarte,

In both cases the QGIS just dosent load/launch. Double click on the
desktop shortcut or launch from the start menu but they just don't
launch like there is nothing installed. I did try reinstallation and
still dosen't work.

For our windows 7 PC we did install version 1.6 before and perhaps it
is indeed a previous dll. So should i try deleting qtcore4.dll?. Any
other i need to delete?. I am currently at home and will try to follow
any instructions once i get back to work tomorrow. Its currently 1:46

Hi Nome,

Have you tried installing QGIS with administrator rights? Right-click on
the installation file and select 'run as administrator'. Install the
program that way and see if it solves your problem.

Another thing you can try: I once had a problem where QGIS wouldn't load
and eventually tracked the problem down to the program nircmd.exe which
is used to run the batch file that launches QGIS. The antivirus software
on the computer in question was flagging nircmd as a virus and
preventing it from running. Maybe this is the cause of your problem? Try
double-clicking the qgis.bat file in the qgis folder to see if you can
run it that way.

[Qgis-user] qgis 1.7 on Microsoft server 2003 not launching - SOLVED

2011-08-05 Thread HAUBOURG
Hi list,
the problem exposed yesterday was finally solved (error 0xc06d007e on
launching). It was a very uncommon registry conflict generated by a Citrix
software.
We found a patch and a tutorial here:
http://www.personalcomputerfixes.com/general-errors/0xc06d007e-error-repair-tutorial-how-to-fix-the-0xc06d007e-error/

http://support.attachmate.com/techdocs/2358.html

Hope this can be useful to someone else

[Qgis-user] qgis 1.7 on Microsoft server 2003 not launching

2011-08-04 Thread HAUBOURG
Hi list,

Very happy with Qgis 1.7 for my own use, we are trying to deploy it for users
working on a Citrix XenApp Network with Microsoft Server 2003.

The previous version 1.6 installed through the standalone windows installer
worked fine.

We installed the 1.7 , with the standalone windows installer too, on two
developpement servers with my system administrator.
We get a launch error message with the following error code 0xc06d007e on
both servers.

It looks like a conflict on a memory location but we found very few matching
results on the web.

We checked updates on microsoft visual c++ redistributable 2005. it was
correctly installed. We previously had the visual c++ redistributable 2010.

Does anyone has any idea or clue ?

We really count on that version to switch our users to qgis, and then be able
to contribute (financially too) to the project.

Cheers,
Regis

 Hi Torsten,
If your question is how do you get the (SRTM) data, try
 something
 like:
  http://edcsns17.cr.usgs.gov/NewEarthExplorer/ - Earth Explorer from
the USGS Or http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/ - or various other places.
If you just want to use it as a basemap then I'm guessing you
just add it like a regular raster. If you want to use it to drape
other data over so you can do 3D I'm not sure if QGIS could do that or
if it would be the best solution - there are other open-source GIS's for that.
 Hope that helps.

 Sent by:qgis-user-boun...@lists.osgeo.org

 Hi!

I'm novice to use free DEM data. I work on a medium (~60km) scale area
in Germany. It's basically about geology. As don't need accurate DEM
data for the time being I read through google that gtopo30 or (even
 better ?) DTED data

from German Aerospace Center may be utilized, which are all free of
 charge.

Actually I don't know where to start. Could anyone please give some
comments about how would be the general procedure to load those data
 into QGis?
 Useful
 links are appreciated.

 Thanks in advance,

As you mentioned, we better use 1.6 version for composing the maps till the
 issue is fixed in 1.7.

Even better would be test the qgis-dev release (with osgeo4w, under
Windows) and report back if the issue is still there.

[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 (Print Composer) stability issues (Win XP)

2011-07-19 Thread percy langa
Hey all,

My experience with 1.7 has been good and really bad.

I really like the new features, especially the ability to switch between Old
and New Symbology. The trouble started with Print Composer. First, it was
Legend issues (a white band appears at the top of the Legend, extending to
the top of the Composer). After a bit of troubleshooting (I switched off all
the layers in Map View and switched them on again, one at the time), the
Legend was almost working again (but really slow). The 'white band' would
only be present if certain layers were added to the Map View.

Secondly, and the most critical issue, is that QGIS crashes when I save the
Print Composer as an Image (tiff). 'Save as PDF' works fine.

So, after a few crashes yesterday, I re-installed 1.6 and I am happy again.

Funny thing is, a few months back, before 1.7 stable was announced, I had
both 1.6 and qgis-dev working fine. Hopefully I'll spend a bit more time
troubleshooting the 1.7 issues.

Machine: Win XP, Service Pack 3

Cheers and keep up the great work,

Percy

2011-07-19 Thread Andreas Neumann

Hi,

QGIS trunk (qgis-dev) already has fixes for most of the print composer
and PDF export issues.

It is mainly a matter of releasing QGIS 1.7.1 - I don't know the plans
for the next bugfix release.

you cannot use the last erdas SDK, you need to use the one before it
because the gdal-ecw package in osgeo4w was not yet updated to handle
correctly the last version of the Erdas dlls.

[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 and Ubuntu GIS packages, was qgis-grass-plugin dependency issue

2011-06-30 Thread Dan Putler
I have run into the same problem. The mix and match between the QGIS and Ubuntu
GIS repositories is not pleasant. Until the current QGIS 1.7 release,
exclusively using the Ubuntu GIS repository was a just works experience. I
have also noticed a big performance degradation between the 1.6 and 1.7
releases in terms of the length of time it takes to render a shapefile. In
addition, I'm getting rendering errors for files that rendered just fine in
1.6, and have no problems in either uDig, and gvSIG. I thought it might be due
to the shapefiles being less than perfect, so I cleaned them in GRASS. The
cleaned files also have rendering errors, but those errors are slightly
different than for the original files. I'd be happy to send these files along
if someone in the development team is interested. I am running Ubuntu 10.04
(Lucid) on two machines, one 32 bit, the other 64 bit, with the underlying
support stack largely coming from the Ubuntu GIS repo. My hunch
at this moment is that there is something in the Ubuntu GIS based stack that
this release of QGIS doesn't play well with.

Hi,

I use the latest stable qgis version (1.7) on Ubuntu Natty.
Since now, I was using the default Grass package and the Qgis-grass plugin was
working fine.

I added the following repository :

GRASS 6.4.1 is now installed on my computer. The problem is when I try to
install qgis-grass-plugin through the Package Manager, I get the following
error message :

qgis-plugin-grass:

Could someone help me to make that work? Is it risky to force the install
without checking dependencies?

Many thanks

2011-06-17 Thread Stefan Sylla
Dear list,

I have some very large geotiff-files (up to 10 GB) from satellite imagery
that I need to load into QGIS. To speed up the rendering, I created pyramids
on those images with gdaladdo. In QGIS 1.6 this worked very fine and the
images where loaded (after adding them with Add Raster Layer) within a few
seconds.

Now, after I updated to QGIS 1.7, it takes several minutes to load the
images into QGIS with Add Raster Layer (after being loaded, however,
everything works fine and I can zoom in and out without any time-consuming
rendering processes).

Anyone has an idea why QGIS 1.7 takes so much time to load the images, as it
was working fine in QGIS 1.6?

I am using QGIS on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit.

Hope someone can help
Stefan

Re: [Qgis-user] qgis 1.7 geotiff problem

2011-06-17 Thread Giovanni Manghi
Hi Stefan,

you are right, there is this issue in qgis = 1.7.

We lost many time tracking it down and yesterday Pedro V. finally found
the reason, and there is an easy workaround.

I have now to change the title and give the ticket a new description.

cheers

Hi,

I can confirm this problem with ecw raster. The workaround is fine
(ubuntugis 64bits in a debian chroot).

[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7, advanced symbology and Openstreetmap data

2011-05-19 Thread Mayeul Kauffmann
Hi,
Among the many features of the coming QGIS 1.7.0 are advanced symbology
options (multi-scale and filter-based rules, symbol levels, etc.)
A video on how to use QGIS with complex OpenStreetMap data is now
available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBBYtH2svw0

Other rendering examples:
http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Using_OpenStreetMap_data

Technical details:

Hope this helps,

Mayeul

[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7 - no grass setup request

2011-04-11 Thread Sam Vekemans
Hi, I'm wondering 2 things.

1 - Is it posssable to include a download link on the
http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Download page, so then users can download all
previous versions. .. rather than having user dig for it here
http://download.osgeo.org/qgis/ which is a maze of directories.
(for those people like me who want to use QGIS but the program does not
uninstall correctly, especially when the variation versions from the osgeo
website were downloaded. .. .having 2 separate locations for this download,
both being 'official' doesn't really make sence.

2 - it is possible to include a 'no-grass setup' or simply hide the fact
that grass (the background program) is installed. Or have it as an option
during the setup process. .. so those who want to have a larger program can
choose to download it. And for those who want a 'lite' version, can simply
do so.

This will avoid the problems when trying to uninstall... as it is only 1
complete program that users need to install.

In many programs. there is the option to include a prompt for 'Advanced'
'Custom' 'basic' and 'complete' setup.

I wish i was a programmer so i could submit a patch... to fix this, so this
is why im simply requesting, and hoping that it can happen sometime
eventually :)

Thanks,
Sam
