I only opened the conc2.dbf with normal "Add Vector Layer" - no
problems .. all data in the attribute table ..

sorry - no GRASS plugin here .. - are you forced to use v.in.db?

Hi,
for me no problem, ecxept for the type of field ID. It's float, but it
has to be integer if you use it to create the key column in the GRASS
vector.

This is the test command used:

v.in.db database=/home/leo/prove/ table=conc2 driver=dbf x=X y=Y key=ID2
output=conc2

Thank you Giovanni,
Does that mean I cannot load openlayers maps and WMS maps at the same time. The
only option I seem to have for the WMS maps is WGS 84 and UTM zone 19, or is
there a way to display both within the same project?

It looks now to me that all layers always loaded correctly. What seems to be
the problem is that I cannot get Google Streets or OpenstreetMap to display.
Both these layers were placed underneath the shp and the NAIP (WMS) maps.
Turning off the NAIP layer should activate the Google Street map, which is
directly under the NAIP layer and turned on, but I cannot get it to display. I
turned the layer on and off, and checked and unchecked (repeatedly) the render
button. But nothing happens. When I zoomed into the map, the complete google
streets displays, which is odd because by zooming in it actually zoomed out.
Maybe this is a bug?

I agree. There are evidences of the contrary, for example many plugins
that have GUIs that are developed under Windows and render bad under
Linux and OsX.

The printing issue (of large layouts) is a known regression (used to
work fine on qgis 1.6), but again I agree with Paolo.

Sure, I guess it all depends on what you consider to be common. I certainly
haven't seen this problem with _most_ plugins, but it is more than just one or
two.

Recent examples I can think of are the Contour plugin (I think its dependencies
are available now, after the switch to Python 2.7 in OSGeo4W), and the
plugin(s?) that require Rpy or whatever it is that isn't available since the
switch to Python 2.7. And for a long time before that on Windows some of the
plugins that used R (I'm not sure if they're the same ones which can't be used
now) could only be used with quite an old version of R.
I remember several other examples, but the details don't spring to mind.

There's also the point that on Windows if a plugin has an unusual dependency
you have to actually go looking for a Windows package, rather than just
installing it from your distro's package manager. And I've tried a number of
plugins with python dependencies that you have to install by manually
extracting files into the right place from a Windows installer package. This
isn't particularly user friendly ;)

It might not be. But if you think people don't generally report bugs on
windows, who knows?

Yes, I guess that's the other contributing factor.

Actually, in the past when I used the OSGeo4W packages I had even more crashes
on that Windows 7 machine, so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the
machine...

Contour plugin is deprecated, as its functionality is now included in the raster
menu. Rpy2 is a known upstream problem.

Please do not spread FUD. A missing lib is a rather exceptional occurrence, and
happens mostly with a few experimental plugins.

correct, the issue is that the main rpy2 developer do not make anymore
builds for Windows and pyhton > 2.5, unless interested people will find
a way to support this work. As a result the 3 plugins that do make use
of R/rpy2 are not working anymore on Windows. But you can always use
QGIS up to 1.7.3 (that still uses python 2.5) and R <= 2.11.1.

Tom: what happened to the Mac open/save dialogs plan?

I did a proof-of-concept which fixed only qgisapp.cpp (Add Vector/Raster
Layer). This was not submitted to svn. The next step would have been to
create a QgsFileDialog class to be used in place of QFileDialog so that
the fix is made for all file dialogs, not just those in qgisapp.cpp.

I then did the 0.11 release without this fix and noticed that my extra
volumes were appearing in file dialogs. I concluded that some other
change to Qt 4.4.1 somehow fixed this since my bug report (212103) is
still marked pending/unscheduled.

About three weeks ago, I deleted com.trolltech.plist and my extra
volumes disappeared. Apparently, QFileDialog::setSidebarUrls adds items
to the sidebar permanently rather then just for the current
instantiation of the QFileDialog. Thus running my proof-of-concept once
made all future runs of any Qt app see my extra volumes so I thought the
problem was fixed.

About two weeks ago, the non-native dialog disappeared from Qt 4.5. All
Mac file dialogs are native. Appending extra controls to Mac native
file dialogs hasn't been implemented yet so the QGIS Encoding popup is
currently unavailable in Qt 4.5.

At this point, it looks like if we do nothing, the problem will go away
when Qt 4.5 is released (which may be around January). Qt 4.5 Carbon
seems to work as well as Qt 4.4 for those who want native dialogs now.
Qt 4.5 Cocoa is quirky but also usable (no splash screen, no icons in
menus, some dialogs appear half off screen).

(212103) is still marked pending/unscheduled.

About three weeks ago, I deleted com.trolltech.plist and my extra
volumes disappeared. Apparently, QFileDialog::setSidebarUrls adds
items to the sidebar permanently rather then just for the current
instantiation of the QFileDialog. Thus running my proof-of-concept
once made all future runs of any Qt app see my extra volumes so I
thought the problem was fixed.

About two weeks ago, the non-native dialog disappeared from Qt 4.5.
All Mac file dialogs are native. Appending extra controls to Mac
native file dialogs hasn't been implemented yet so the QGIS Encoding
popup is currently unavailable in Qt 4.5.

At this point, it looks like if we do nothing, the problem will go
away when Qt 4.5 is released (which may be around January). Qt 4.5
Carbon seems to work as well as Qt 4.4 for those who want native
dialogs now. Qt 4.5 Cocoa is quirky but also usable (no splash
screen, no icons in menus, some dialogs appear half off screen).

Tom,

Thanks for pointing out the Qt4.5 dialog change. That has been a
concern for me as well, but now that Qt is moving to a native dialog
it should be considered fixed.

On a side note, with Qt4.5 carbon built from today's snapshot, the
grass plugin fails to compile. I had to disable grass in order to get
a finished qgis trunk build. Because qt is not stable, I have not
filed a bug.

The file dialog worked well. Very nice, indeed.

Well, Qt 4.5 is still in development. Qgis works with the current
stable Qt, and more work to get all the kinks worked out (like your
GRASS problem below, or adding the extra Qgis controls) would delay
Qgis even more.

I'd be happy with Tom's proof-of-concept fix - I think the main need
for access to external drives is to add raster and vector layers.

Fair point. I possibly misunderstood and read Tom to say that he was
willing to let it resolve itself once Qt4.5 becomes stable.

If it is an easy thing to do, I would also favor the proof-of-concept

qgsgrassshell is the one remaining QGIS module that still needs Qt3Support.

Qt4.5 is supposed to enable Qt3Support for a Carbon-only build but
disable it for a Cocoa or combined build. I have only done a combined
build so I haven't built Qt4.5 Qt3Support.

I use an unfinished port of qgsgrassshell. I have uploaded it to

One problem with this shell is that large blocks of output are not
initially displayed correctly. Instead of multiple lines, you may see
one line repeated multiple times. If you cover and uncover the window,
the correct output will be visible. The shell also freezes after running
a tool from the command line. The workaround is to close and reopen the
shell. I suspended work on porting the shell to do the menu

Since Qt is saving the volume list in com.trolltech.plist and then
retrieving the list for subsequent dialogs, the proof-of-concept is
actually closer to a complete solution since Open Project or Add Layer
are likely to be used before any other file dialog.

When I wrote the code, I though the items would be added only to the
active file dialog. The documentation doesn't mention persistence.

I will add the code bracketed by QT_VERSION < 0x040500 so it doesn't
interfere with future Qt releases and can easily be found later.

Have you tried building with the qt-4.5 beta that recently was

Except that will remove all plugins! What you probably really want is:

rm -rf /Users/hermanpalaquium/.qgis/python/plugins/contour

Which will only remove the contour plugin, which is failing to load
because matplotlib isn't installed...
I think you can also do this from the Python plugin installer by
selecting to remove the plugin?

I think this problem is very typical problem for plugins with
dependencies with other python packages.

It would have been better if plugins would show the dependecies
message so user could download and install the package.

In this case, just tell the user to download and install the matplotlib package.

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2010-07-26 Thread Giuseppe Sucameli
Hi Noli,

the Python Plugin Installer shows the unsatisfied dependencies yet.

After the error message you should see the "Error loading plugin"
dialog which says to you there are unfulfilled dependencies.

Instead it's strange to see the error message!
Trying to install other plugin with unsatisfied dependencies I don't
see it, but the "error loading plugin" dialog only.

So it's an abnormal plugin behaviour.

Cheers.

Hi all,
it's not an abnormal plugin fonctionnality but a standard error
message saying there's some python unsatisfied dependencies, like you
can read at the end of the error message or from the shell :
"ImportError: No module named matplotlib.pyplot". Just have to install
matplotlib and all will be ok. After that, when I was young I learned
a basic rule of life saying if I want an information, I have to
correctly ask the question and not so optionnaly be civilized with an
simple "hello". Didn't see that in the first post...

AFAIK normally that exception is intecepted by the Python Plugin Installer
that shows the unsatisfied dependencies.

Did you try what happens with other plugins?
AFAICS no error message is shown by the other plugins with
unfulfilled dependencies.

I agree, but it's better to avoid unnecessary polemics.

Shortly before starting this thread, Herman write another thread
titled "what happens?.." that starts:
"hi tim and qgis users".

So I think that it's only a blunder, nobody would start a thread
without subject and greeting.

Cheers.

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2010-07-26 Thread Lionel Roubeyrie
Hi Guiseppe,

ok no polemic no troll (and no woman no cry :p ) just sometimes is
good to look at the basics.
For the message, effectively the Python plugin installer normally
catches the error, then what about the first Herman problem
"ImportError: No module named owslib.etree"?
Is it possible to think about having a small dialog for each plugin in
the installer where plugins devs could set some more detailled
description and maybe the dependencies?
My 2 cents

I looked at source code and yes, it's a little slip in the code.

I'm going to write in dev-ML to inform all devs to correct their
plugins which throw errors when there are unfulfilled dependencies.

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2019-01-26 Thread Brent Wood
To add a point, you need to create a new empty point layer and make it
editable, so QGIS has somewhere to write the points to.

If you already have a layer to add to, then open that & make it editable
instead of creating a new layer.

If you are digitising features, you might also enable the digitising & advanced
digitising (if appropriate) toolbars. (View -> Toolbars on the main menu bar)

A DXF has vertices defined by coordinates. You need to tell QGIS what
coordinate reference system these coordinates use.

In general, there is a welth of help for this stuff already out there - Google
is your friend (in this case :-)

If you google for "how to add points in qgis" there are on line videos,
tutorials, etc... should provide all you need to know...

The same applies to almost any task in QGIS, that is how I justy found a plugin
you can install, just click on "Plugins" and once

QGIS had downloaded the list of available plugins, search for DXF to find
"Another DXF Importer / DXF2Shape Converter"

Hope this helps

Hi,

I just downloaded QGIS 3.4.4 and currently (trying to) teach myself and need
some assistance.

  1. How can I key in coordinates to add a point in QGIS 3.4.4?
  2. I am currently experiencing an error in adding an AutoCAD dxf file in
QGIS 3.4.4. I am getting the "CRS was undefined ..." error.

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Dickson

Hi Dickson,

Since QGIS 3.x there is an import/export functionality in the Project menu,
with a specific option for DWG/DXF files.

Hi Helder,

Which style format do you need? Is it a specific Leaflet style format?

Do you use any map server (QGIS Server, Mpaserver, Geoserver, ...) to
provide tiles for your Leaflet client or do you display the shapefile
directly on the client?

Hi Tulika:

You will need a minimum of 3 GCP's for the algorithm to work. With out
more detail, it is difficult to determine what the issue is.  Please
provide more detail and I am sure we can find a solution for you.

oops - forgot to insert that before editing
/etc/apt/sources.list

I had attempted sudo apt remove qgis which surprisingly said it was
updating a bunch of dependencies. The system did act as if qgis had

As QGIS 2.X is no longer supported I would start by updating to at least the

Version 3 will load to a new directory if you accept all the defaults.

Hi Carolina,

The tiff file does not contain the style but only the data. Both
applications will somehow guess what would be a nice visualization of
this, and they take different guesses.

The good news is that you can change the layer style in both
applications. In QGIS you can set it to "singleband gray" to get what
ArcMap made for you.

If you want ArcMap to show your layer in the QGIS style you need to
change the symbology too, but I don't know what that is called. Probably
something called "unique values" or "discrete". Otherwise ask some
ArcPeople on an ArcForum. ;)

Good luck,
Raymond

Olá Tiago,

You can do what you want by using select by expression and then use the
count aggregate function:

https://docs.qgis.org/3.10/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_vector/expression.html?highlight=expression#aggregates-functions

Anything where count > 1 should be a duplicate

Count("my_field", group_by:="my_field") > 1

As a quick fix have you considered using the flatpak version? It is self

Its well maintained I think, and its the LTR version.

Hi! Thanks for incluiding me.

I changed from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04, so I automaticly lost the qgis
software. When I tryed to install it again, many troubles came out, like "qgis
needs 'this' or 'this' but its not going to be install" or 'its going to
install 'this' in stand of 'this'; "E: the package its not found" and also "you
have broken packages". I tryed to erase old packages, tryed to clean caché,
tryed commands like "autoremove", "autoclean", "sudo apt-get -f install' and i
followed all the suggested steps from the qgis original tutorial but nothing
worked!

Its there any other suggestions about how to install qgis? this vertion is
actually working? I even tryed to install qgis copying from the terminal to
the repository both latest versions
(https//:qgis.org/ubuntu and
https//:qgis.org/ubuntu-ltr)

Please, anything will help, i'm in the middle of my final work to get a master
degree and i already lost 2 days trying to fix this. My plan B is just, get
back to Ubuntu 18, but its possible that that doesnt work easily anyway.

Thanks for your atention!

Regards.

Hi Maria,

I recently started as a Linux newbie on Ubuntu 20.04 and I managed to
install QGIS following the steps on

Kind regards

erase old packages, tryed to clean caché, tryed commands like
"autoremove", "autoclean", "sudo apt-get -f install' and i followed
all the suggested steps from the qgis original tutorial but nothing

Its there any other suggestions about how to install qgis? this

Please, anything will help, i'm in the middle of my final work to get

Hi Fred,

To help us help you, please

- formulate your question more clearly. What exactly are you trying to do?
What behaviour do expect? What behaviour are you getting?
- provide a link to the specific tutorial page you are following.
- let us know what version of QGIS you are using and on which operating
system.

Have you posted a question on Stack Exchange? If so, please provide a link.

Thanks

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2017-06-01 Thread Tudorache, Marian
Hi Fred,

You include quite a lot of questions.
Changing layer color is done by styling.
You click right on the layer and choose properties. Go to the tab Style.
You can change the color of the features displayed in your layer, the
transparency, unit of measurements etc.

Also I can't see a line of crosses, points opposite the nodes by the polygon
so I don't know how to do this does any know how to correct this, sort it out?
I think you refers to the points which build a specific feature.
If you use vectorial layers there are three types: points, lines and polygon.
You cannot have a layer with mixed types.
When you work with point layers it is simple. Each feature on the layer is a
point.
When you work with lines you see the lines which connect the point defined by
your clicks on the canvas.
If you want to visuals those points you need to have the layer in edit mode
and select a specific line feature, You can see the defined points by a small
red x.
The same with polygon layer type.

Be aware the lines which are drawn manually are simple. They do not follow the
contour of the earth like Great Circle, Rhumble lines. If you want to draw a
great circle line you need create plugin or used one of the plugins which exist.
You have all kind of processing algorithm which can operate on you layers.

Changing the layer symbols.
You can change the symbol but not the layer type. Go to layer style as I
explained above.

Do I answer to your questions?

Hi

I have been trying to learn how to use QGIS following the QGIS online tutorial.
I am on lesson 6.2 part 2. Though I am still struggling to work out how to do
this as my area of my places layer should be a different colour which I have
tried to change but I don't know how as its shows as green on the tutorial but
white at the moment does anyone know about this? .Also I can't see a line of
crosses, points opposite the nodes by the polygon so I don't know how to do
this does any know how to correct this, sort it out?. Also each of the layers
appear as symbols which I can't find, remember this being in the tutorial does
anyone know how to change these layers so there are symbols. I am basically
just stuck on this lesson which I am finding very tricky and I badly need help
with this. I have tried Stack Exchange but to no avail.

You have to decide for one zone and then you can reproject data from
the other zone. QGis does it automatically on the fly (your data stays
in the original projection).

You could also decide to reproject data from both zones to a different
projection.

Have a look at the project settings and enable "On the fly
reprojection". Also make sure your input data has the proper projection
information assigned.

Hope this helps,
Andreas

Interesting questionb. I do not know how, but if needed, I have done
it by selecting the UTM zone of your preference within which you want
to merge together in a map (e.g., zone 13 and 14 North), and
represent

them "slanted on the fly." Yet, how does Google Earth do that and get
a "flat" map?  --

I'm probably not going to help much.
Does it help if the image and project are in the same CRS (datm/projection)?

Otherwise, some more information will help.
Does QGIS give any more error message?
Which version of QGIS are you using?
Which OS?
Are you trying to do this through GDAL tools ( the raster menu) or some other

Hi Willem,

mmm, rank correlation coefficient... [0] ?

it is not clear to me if you really need two layers. Does your (spatial)
data have both columns income and %shops?
If so, there is no need to load the layer twice, but you can use the
Field Calculator (see [1]) to create/calculate the value via the
creation of your formula using the values of the two columns.

if the data is NOT in the same dataset (eg you have a shp file with
zip-codes and and excel file with columns), you could create a join
first between those two datasets and THEN use the field calculator.

but to be honest, statistics is not my stronges point :-(
so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Richard Duienvoorde

What tool in QGIS are you using to adjust the raster? Can you please
include the exact command you are currently using.

If you are using something from the Raster Menu (aka GDAL Tools) then
you need to set the compression and type of number manually.

The type of number stored dictates a large amount of overhead, there is
a huge difference between Integer and Float.

-co COMPRESS=LZW -ot Int16

See http://www.gdal.org/gdal_translate.html for options. Pick the
smallest type of number storage that holds your data correctly. Most
GDAL tools will default to Float, that is likely the difference.

2015-01-26 Thread Phil (The Geek) Wyatt
You will need to somehow assign geographic references (Lat/Long) to each
address. This might be achieved by geocoding from the addresses. Under plugins,
check if the experimental MMQGIS plugin is loaded. This has a menu item for
geocoding the addresses from Google and Open Street Mapping.

Dear all,
I should add a spreadsheet with data containing the addresses of commercial
activities to be loaded in QGIS.
The spreadsheet (Excel) contains the name, code, complete address, city.
How can I assign these values properly if I want to use open layer plugin with

Helllo abhijeet,

To hide certain columns you need to go to the layer properties - fields
tab. Then, for each of the desired fields, you can set the Edit Widget as
Hidden.

To sort the attribute table by an especific column, all you need to do is
click over the column name. First click will sort it descending, the second
one will sort ascending.

I hope it helps,

thanks Alexander, this is helpful. one more thing though, about my 2nd

by name like names like 'abc' only.
result should be: all the names having character 'abc' should display.

2015-02-04 Thread Alexandre Neto
In that case, you need to use an expression to select the desired rows.

An expression like this will probably work:

"Name_column" LIKE 'abc%'

After this you can click on the bottom left button and choose "Show
selected features only".

If you want to make it more permanent (i.e., not dependent of the selected
features) you can use the expression on the layers filter (right-click the
layer > filter)

I've investigated on the fly projection and taking that off. All the layers
should be the same projection anyway. That is set in the server.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to see my layer?

Another issue is that you can set your elevation reference point in most
Garmin units to either use the height above the ellipsoid or and
approximation mean sea level.  This setting will also have an impact on

Dear Viktoria,

I think the problem is with the network connection or the URL.
Do you want to connect a public server?
Can you access the net?
What if you type in the browser the URL of the WMS server plus
"?service=wms&request=GetCapabilities"?
You should get an XML. Until you don't get this XML QGIS won't work.

Probably when you imported your . CSV you did not define the types of the
columns, especially the join column, so that the column in the .SHP is say
integer and the matching column is string.

If that's the case, you can either reimport your .CSV taking care to define
the types of the columns or you can add a new column of the appropriate
type (e.g. integer) and use the field calculator to convert the join column
into it, then redo the join on the new column.

Hi everyone,
Many people here also speak french and other languages (and I have given him
the same advice Pablo has but in french). The fact is that this is the very
best list and the nature of the web is international.
Indicating to people that this is an English list (i have seen this comment a
few times now) is inflammatory in many countries... It is the equivalent of
saying "English only, others not wanted..." I very well know that this was not
anybody's intention.  Just be careful:).

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2015-10-17 Thread Brent Wood
Hi,
Don't save as a pdf - these do not generally work as georeferenced images &
QGIS cannot create a geopdf.
The easy way is without using the print composer, just save the project as an
image (Project menu) - the default is a georeferenced png (png + world file).
Avenza cannot read these, but QGIS can. Open the png image you just saved as a
new raster layer in QGIS, & then save it as a Gtiff format image. This should
create a geotiff of the map that you can read with Avenza.
Cheers,
Brent Wood

 Subject: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

I am a new user to QGIS, and interested in making referenced pdf maps for
Avenza App.  I find this app excellent out in the middle of no where as the GPS
on my phone places me on the map.  I tend to be rather adventurous, and often
can find images of maps for places I travel, but not with the geo referencing.
I have tried to use QGIS and was able to make images with references, but when
using print composer to save the pdf, Avenza says the map is not referenced.  :(

Obviously I am not doing something correctly, could some one give me a short
tutorial or point me to a tutorial?

I have attached link of a map of interest.

You can export a world file with georeferencing information along with
the composer. In the "Composition" tab, "Export settings", check
"World file on" and select the map (I guess there will be just one map
in your case).

I do not think this will work for pdfs but it will do for image
formats (pdf, tiff, jpeg...)

Hope it helps

Hello Ralf,

For Manifold, it is also the space bar. Once snapping is
enabled it is then turned on/off with the space bar so it can be interrupted.
