Mail2db or maildir2html
I am in need of taking an e-mail user(like [EMAIL PROTECTED]) and piping the mail recieved into either an html file, or preferably a mysql table. I would like the table to include the time and date field, and the body(which would be the text of the message without the headers) Html formatting should be fine, since this will be incorporated into an automated web announcements systemintegrated with php-nuke, or geeklog, etc... I know this is a special project, and will probably end up writing the whole thingbut right now I am looking for shortcuts to make it easier. I see an existing project... Mail2db which uses a python script, and postgresqlhas anyone played with this? Is there already a program that will take a message body, and pipe it to an html, or text file? Thanks, Barry Smoke
RE: qmail and McAfee?
amavis.org it is a wrapper that works with qmail to send all mail messages to the virus scanner, and bounce if they contain a virus. it is awesome!! -Original Message- From: Bill Parker [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2001 8:01 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: qmail and McAfee? EZMLM web archive HELP PLEASE, DESPERATE!!
I'm copying this back to both the qmail list, and the ezmlm list, because it is not that simple, although I really appreciate the reply...it has been the only one I've gotten. After all the research, and digging through, FAQ's and documentation, I am really surprised I am having this much trouble figuring this out. This should be one of the most common things to do with an ezmlm mailing list. I'm starting to wonder if there is another rpm everyone else is using...although I can't find one referenced anywhere here is the original postmy problems are below: > On Fri, Dec 01, 2000 at 01:12:16PM -0600, Barry Smoke wrote: > > somewhere between adding the web-archive functionality to ezmlm-idx-4.0, and > > documenting ezmlm-cgi, there is a loss of information on how to implement > > it. > > > > I have searched for hours to find documentation on how to get a web-archive > > up. > > I am using qmail on a redhat 7.0 system, and I installed the ezmlm-idx-mysql > > rpm. I untar'd ezmlm, ezmlm-idx, and the spec file kit, which is where I found the mysql spec file , which is the one I am usingalthough I tried both the std, and the mysql.spec I saw the ezmlm-cgi.c file listed on the following directory listing of ezmlm.org, so I downloaded that, but have no idea where to put it. There is no makefile to just compile it. Let's say I have an alias users, which would be [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is just a text list of local users I want to keep a log of everything sent to that address seperately, and verifacation from qmail-send that it sent to every user in that text file... is this possible? Thanks, Barry Smoke

oops, I borke an alias
I have an alias for our High School .qmail-bhs which contains a list of all the users at our high School That alias was working fine, until i added a user bhs for posting webpages. FW: /var/qmail/alias question
that makes sense...but what about the hundreds of users that had nothing change... right now [EMAIL PROTECTED] goes to /home/bsmoke/Maildir and [EMAIL PROTECTED] goest to /home/bsmoke/Maildir because all of these domains are in /var/qmail/control/locals so 99% of all the other users are working correctly... is this a situation where if i made that domain a virtual domain instead...and made an alias-ses1 then put in /home/ses1 a .qmail-ses1-swright containing stwright in order for this to continue working for everyone else, i would have to make .qmail-ses1- files for everyone on that domain..wouldn't I? could i just have a /home/swright folder with a .qmail file that checks what domain it is coming from, then forward that way? (like if [EMAIL PROTECTED], forward to stwright) else if [EMAIL PROTECTED], forward to srwright) i don't know what the actual working of the file would be...but would that work...or is it not possible? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, October 09, 2000 4:23 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: /var/qmail/alias question On Mon, Oct 09, 2000 at 04:36:55PM -0500, Barry Smoke wrote: > This is all working perfectly, except for a few strange name problems. The good news is, it's easy to fix. The bad news is, you have probably set up your virtual domains and aliases incorrectly for your situation. For each of the domains that you forward for, you should have an entry in rcpthosts and virtualdomains. In virtualdomains you should use a *unique* alias for each domain, such as: ses1.dsc.k12.ar.us:alias-ses1 des1.dsc.k12.ar.us:alias-des1 Then, in the alias home directory, you create a file called .qmail-ses1-swright to handle forwarding for [EMAIL PROTECTED] and create a file called .qmail-des1-swright to handle forwarding for [EMAIL PROTECTED] Note that -ses1 and -des1 are now part of the alias file names? qmail domain heiarchy
I am the network administrator for a public school system in ARkansas. We have just implemented a single qmail mail server for the districtwhich consists of 8 schools, on 5 different site locations. our 4 remote elementary schools have 384K dedicated internet connectionsand our main campus has a t-1, that feeds 4 schools plus administration. The new mail system was put on a single domain on an ip for the main campus. The 4 remote elementaries have different ip numbers/subnet masks when their internet connection is outwhich happens often, I would like for local e-mail delivery to still work, while all remote messages are put in que. when the connection comes up, messages are senttransparently. i would like to do this without running other domains Each remote site...(and the main campus for that matter) is connected to a transparent masquerading proxy (firewall) serveris this possible...maybe with port forwardingfirewall rules...runing a qmail server on each local proxy? I don't have a clue where to start with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Barry Smoke [EMAIL PROTECTED] Network Administrator Bryant Public Schools

Unless RedHat 7.0 beta includes some automatic function, then you do. Read the qmail FAQ on info for how to update this (specifically look for information on NIS/NFS outages...this is included there.) I don't know if this is covered in LWQ but I would guess so. Also, most of the problems I have had with qmail like yours are to do with Maildir permissions. Make sure in the actual home folder of the recipient that they have at least read/write permissions (maybe a cd ~user; chmod -R u+r *; chown -R user *; chown -R user .qmail; chgrp -R group *; chgrp -R group .qmail) might help. This has 90% of the time caused the below problem. BUT the assign file you asked about before probably caused the other 10%! RE: help with strange problem
I never knew about this...because i've never set qmail up for nis/nfs.which makes my situation even stranger I always check the permissions firstI have permissions set up correctly in /etc/skel...so every user created automatically has the correct permissions..permissions have always been what I look at first, because as with you ...it always fixes 90% of my problems...sucks to have one in the other 10% I'm almost stumped on this one..it has to be something simple I would rather not have to run that cron script...if I don't have to. I concider it kind of a hack for now. -Original Message- From: Brett Randall [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, August 08, 2000 1:05 AM To: qmail Subject: RE: help with strange problem > to add > I have discovered that the users that are working are in > /var/control/users/assign > what updates this file? I always check that first...so what I'm getting is that this shouldn't be happening..the cron job definately makes a new user work..but I'm not using NIS, or NFS. Is there an easy way to just send to all users in a linux group, instead of having to use an alias file?

Bruce's latest qmail rpm and subdomain
I am running Bruce's latest RPM, and I love it...easy setup...works great. I am also using his virtual domain package vmailmgr. I don't know how many of you are familiar with his vmailmgr package, but it works great. I put out this question on the vmailmgr mailing list, and he said the problem i am having is not vmailmgr related, it is qmail related. So here goes: I have a virtual domain for example domain.com. I have a subdomain called test.domain.com I have a user [EMAIL PROTECTED] and i have a user [EMAIL PROTECTED] my /var/qmail/control/virtualdomains file reads: domain.com:domain.com test.domain.com:test.domain.com If I send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the message is being delivered to [EMAIL PROTECTED] qmail should parse this by looking for test.domain.com then .domain.com then .com Anyone know what might cause the MUA to send the mail to the wrong place? ## here is my log file entry...the real domain is yourprospects.com: ## May 17 14:42:20 dns1 qmail: 958592540.263598 status: local 2/10 remote 0/20 May 17 14:42:20 dns1 qmail: 958592540.268567 delivery 13: success: did_0+0+0/ May 17 14:42:20 dns1 qmail: 958592540.310099 status: local 1/10 remote 0/20 May 17 14:42:20 dns1 qmail: 958592540.334021 delivery 14: success: did_1+0+0/ May 17 14:42:20 dns1 qmail: 958592540.440181 status: local 0/10 remote 0/20 May 17 14:42:20 dns1 qmail: 958592540.440263 end msg 41396 May 17 14:53:47 dns1 qmail: 958593227.888630 new msg 41396 May 17 14:53:47 dns1 qmail: 958593227.888764 info msg 41396: bytes 907 from qp 6852 uid 112 May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.097990 starting delivery 15: msg 41396 to local [EMAIL PROTECTED] May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.098097 status: local 1/10 remote 0/20 May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.098155 starting delivery 16: msg 41396 to local [EMAIL PROTECTED] May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.098203 status: local 2/10 remote 0/20 May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.102911 delivery 15: success: did_0+0+0/ May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.144389 status: local 1/10 remote 0/20 May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.144493 delivery 16: success: did_0+0+1/ May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.232967 status: local 0/10 remote 0/20 May 17 14:53:48 dns1 qmail: 958593228.233045 end msg 41396
Re: courier-imap rpm
I must appologizelooks like I'm going to be reloading a server here soon.:-) I have 2 servers set up almost identical...but with different histories. One was a fresh RedHat 6.0 install upgraded to 6.1 the other was a RH 4/5.2/6.0/6.1 upgraded server. I've had problems with 2 rpm's now that install just fine...but don't run correctly. No rhyme or reason. Courier-imap compiles...installswon't run. Zope compiles(from source rpm)installs...runs.but i can't log in to manage These 2 flukes have happened on the same server..and using the same software, work fine on my other one. Sorry for the snide remarks about courier not working from the rpm.. I should know by now to test on 2 servers before comenting. What is everyone else using? I'm just full of questions..:-) Thanks, Barry Smoke
Re: courier-imap rpm
yes...as I said...it doesn't work right out of the box. I will say that I was impressed about the rpm building straight from the tarball.but it should also work after installation. -Original Message- From: Sam <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Qmail <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Tuesday, February 08, 2000 8:57 PM Subject: Re: courier-imap rpm >On Tue, 8 Feb 2000, Barry Smoke wrote: > >> Even though the author says there's no need to post a rpmit would >> be nice to have one that's ready to install, and runjust by >> changing the config file. > >As the instruction say, you build the binary RPM directly from the >tarball. > > >-- >Sam > > >
courier-imap rpm
Anyone used the rpm instructions on the courier-imap page and gotten them to work? All the files look like they install o.k.but on my RH6.0 system, I disabled the imap line in my inetd.conf file(in order to get rid of the bind: already in use error) because it looks to me like it uses couriertcpd to listen on it's own the start-up script runs...with the right messages, but I do a netstatand there's no port 143 being listened to...(yes...I'm using netstat -tan for a complete listing.) I do a ps auxand there's no imap process running.. Even though the author says there's no need to post a rpmit would be nice to have one that's ready to install, and runjust by changing the config file. Thanks, Barry Smoke

Re: school filtering of student e-mail
I appologize to the group for my vagueness. Yes we do have a legal policy concerning these matters.by "stuff" I meant attachments, url's, etc. We will need to allow students to use this only to do research, recieve valid attachments(ie...research pictures, zip files containing valid material, etc) We do not have the staff to police the proper use of this though, and any porn links, dirty pictures, etcwill not be tolerated. Please concider this a technical question, and not an ethical/legal one. Again, thanks... school filtering of student e-mail
I work for Bryant Public Schools, Bryant AR. We have been using qmail fo a while now, and love it! We are contemplating adding student e-mail accounts to our mail server. We are going to use the courier imap, with a web based e-mail system. We have several issues come up with this. Here's a couple for the list 1. how do we filter content, and what do we filter?(is there a programare there rules for words, catch phrases, content, url's, attachments...) 2. notification of abuse. ( How do we forward the bad stuff to the appropriate administrator?) Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Barry Smoke Network Administrator Bryant Public Schools
vchkpw messes up existing users
I installed vpopmail, replaced the correct line in my init script with the vchkpw program, and restarted the qmail pop3d, then I could no-longer log in to check my mail on the server, it wouldn't authenticate.(kept asking me for username/passwd) I changed it back, restarted the pop3d, and it works fineDid I miss something? Thanks, Barry Smoke p.s. The same thing happened when I tried to install vmailmgr.
strange quirk in qmail-local
I am getting a wierd message pertaining to the sticky bit on users home directory. I know that chmod -t %HOME clears that, but after doing that I get a defferal_can't_chdir_to_Maildir. I have put a Maildir in my skeleton directory, in /etc I call qmail with ./Maildir/ in the line I have put a .qmail file also in the skeleton directory with an entry ./Maildir/ about 1/3 of my users get this, so it's not an isolated thing. What could be causing this, and how can I clear it up once and for all. Thanks Barry Smoke [EMAIL PROTECTED]
