Strange problems...

1999-09-12 Thread Dmitry Niqiforoff

Hello!

I'm using QMAIL and UW-IMAP patched for mailbox format. There are complaints from
our users that they're unable to delete some messages using IMAP. They mark message as
"deleted" in their mail agent, and when they do "folder compact" it remains undeleted
and unmarked as deleted. When I look into their homedir where mailbox file resides,
there are some files with long names which looks like temporary files (with "$" in
filenames). When I delete them, all the problems disappear until next such situation.
Does anybody know what can be the source of this problem? Any suggestions about how
to resolve the problem?

Potential hole?

1999-09-07 Thread Dmitry Niqiforoff

Hello!

Yesterday I found that any user are able to start any program at
server with .qmail file. This could be potentially dangerous, AFAIU. As
an example: I denied TELNET access (disabled the service in inetd.conf),
but any user can put "|in.telnetd" in their .qmail file (ofcourse, there
should be not only in.telnetd to work correctly).
Also, any user are able to get our /etc/passwd file. It is not
dengerous because there is no passwords, but it is possible to a) find
out where user homedir is, and b) get total list of the users which can
be later used for, lets say, spamming.
Your imagination is the only limit for this.

Is there any suggestions about how to avoid all the potential
problems?

.qmail-news doesn't work????

1999-08-28 Thread Dmitry Niqiforoff

Hello!

I've been trying to bounce messages for [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], but it doesn't work :( I just copied my
.qmail-postmaster into .qmail-news, with "&root" inside, killall
-HUP qmail-send and sent a message to postmaster and to news.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] works just fine, News - doesn't. There is
"Mailbox" file appears in /var/spool/news instead. I even tried to
completely restart qmail - the same effect.
  What I did wrong?

Rejecting selected users

1999-08-25 Thread Dmitry Niqiforoff

Hello!

Is it possible to configure qmail to reject mail from selected
(outside) users. For example, I have 'kraft-s.ru' domain and I'd
like to deny user [EMAIL PROTECTED] to send any messages to our
users. Any suggestions?

Oops... Seems to me everything O'k now. The problem was when I've been
converting old /var/spool/mail mailboxes to new ~user/Mailbox, chown wasn't
working with dots in user name. I think it is better to say our managers not to
allow users have dots in their logins.

Then, there is another question: is it possible to handle usernames longer than
8 symbols?

And what is the solution? There is user "t.v.ship" and he has FTP and HTTP
access also, on the same server. Now I have to rename him? I have a lot of
such users. Each user have to have an alias?
Is there a way to disable this feature?

URGENT: QMAIL problems!!! :(((

1999-08-22 Thread Dmitry Niqiforoff

Hello!

Yesterday I moved from sendmail to qmail and now I got a problem.
The problem is it doesn't recognizes usernames with dots in it. For
example, there is a user "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", and qmail can not
deliver a message to him: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Sorry, no mailbox
here by that name. (#5.1.1).

Is there a way to force qmail to process messages for such users
correctly?
