allow/deny pop3

2001-08-03 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

Hi all.

Is there any way to pass a -x paremeter file to tcpserver for allow/deny
pop3 connections. I was using qpopper from inetd and used hosts.* files
to do that work. Now, I'm using qmail-pop3d from daemontools and I'm
looking for some /etc/tcp.pop3 file to restrict connections based on
IP addresses.
If it's possible, which is the format of this file?

log format

2001-07-17 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

Hi all.

I'm using qmail-1.03, and it's working ok.
Yesterday, I change the way to start qmail from tarball/INSTALL docs
to LWQ. The problem is that the logs don't says (in human readable
format), the date and time of each event. Instead of that, I see
lines like

@40003b535a1736077d54 tcpserver: ok 7541 0:10.1.1.1:25 :10.1.1.194::2525

How can I configure qmail startup process to log the events date and
time like syslog? (Jul 17 12:03:00 host process: blah, blah, blah...)

thanks

smtp only

2001-07-13 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

Hi all.

I have a server running sendmail with thousand users.
I want to put another server with qmail to act as smtp
only. What I need is users configure qmail as smtp server
but keep the mailboxes on sendmail. If qmail receives
a message to a user domain it delivers to sendmail.

thanks

RE: forwarding problem

2001-07-12 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

I have a problem with some messages that are not forwarded
 and I don't
know why. I have the following configuration:

 echo egargiulo ~alias/.qmail-root
 echo egargiulo ~alias/.qmail-postmaster
 echo egargiulo ~alias/.qmail-mailer-daemon

 cat ~egargiulo/.qmail
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 ./Mailbox

Some error messages (for an address not in rcpthost) are delivered to
postmaster and stored in ~admin/Mailbox but not forwarded to
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
How can I fix it? messages to admin, postmaster, root and
 mailer-daemon
 are forwarded and stored ok.

What Do The Logs Say? (tm)

 -Dave

I had attached part of the logfile to this message.
I think, the bogus mail sender is #@[] ,so the MTA that receives the
forwarded bogus mail reject it. How can I fix it?

PS: I have edited the original post to show the real usernames and
forward addresses.

virtualdomains recipients

2001-07-12 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

Hi all.

I have configured virtualdomains like this

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:yapedu
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:yapedu

and dot-qmail

echo ./IN.ezmlm/ ~yapedu/.qmail-ezmlm
echo ./IN.qmail/ ~yapedu/.qmail-qmail

to sore messages from different list in differents Maildirs.

My question is what happen when there are more than on address
in the to: header and list address is not the first or if the
list address is in CC?

RE: smtproutes and mail still in queue

2001-07-06 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

My mail client is Mutt. Few days ago I have subscribed to
 their mailing list.
Their list server is at gbnet.net. The list server attempts
 to authenticate
my server by calling to identd. I have opened up ipchains to
 access identd for
the gbnet.net domain and the mail is still the mail queue.

Since my initial subscription (sometime ago) to Mutt list, I
 have added the
gbnet.net in the /var/qmail/control/smtproutes file. The
 relaying server is my
ISP's mail server. In this case, this mail should have left
 my system long time
ago but it still remains in the mail queue. Why is it trying
 to authenticate my
system via identd when the smtproutes has been defined for
 this domain?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Look at the recipients of mutt list messages. You subscribe to
gbnet.net but the message recipients are @mutt.org
You can post to @mutt.org too

hope this help

RE: $HOME problem

2001-06-28 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

I mean Mailboxes in $HOME. I'm using mailboxes because i dont
know how to configure qpopper for Maildirs

You don't. You configure qmail-pop3d for Maildirs :).
 Switch from qpopper
and mbox files to qmail-pop3d and Maildirs -- it's a big improvement.

Ok, i do switch from qpopper to qmail-pop3d ;)

I have two NEW questions to the list:

1. how should I start qmail-pop3d. I found two ways (qmail info and
lifewithqmail) but I don't know which is the standar way.

2. [ot] is possible to use mutt with Maildirs?

customized filters

2001-06-28 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

Hi all.

I need to *automagically* save email messages (after read with mutt)
from diferent lists to diferent files or folders based on recipient
addresses (To or CC). I'm using fetchmail.
Can I do it with a qmail feature or should I use procmail, maildrop, etc

thanks

--yapedu

RE: customized filters

2001-06-28 Thread GARGIULO Eduardo INGDESI

If you're running qmail, subscribe to each list with a
 different extension
address, and have appropriate .qmail files to store each of
 them in a separate
Maildir or mbox file. Then configure mutt to read those
 folders in addition
 to your normal spool directory.

If you're not running qmail, then it's not a qmail issue.

yes, i'm running qmail at home (not valid domain).
So I use fetchmail to connect to my yahoo (subscribed address)
account and qmail delivers the message to my PC account. It works
ok!

Is possible to configure .qmail files to store messages in
separate folders or mailboxes based on recipient addresses?
How can I do it?

You didn't configure it properly, then. But with an error
 report like that,
not even Russell can help you :).

you are right ..

qmail-1.03
checkpassword-0.90

I tried the auth examples of the checkpassword docs.
compile checkpassword.
maildirmake $HOME/Maildir
echo ./Maildir/ $HOME/.qmail
change /var/qmail/rc to use Maildirs
restart qmail

but when I run

/var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup adm /bin/checkpassword pwd

I could't authenticate any user.

and four or five times a day it sends them (dial-up) to
sub1.domain.edu using uucp. I want to switch from smail

anybody who could help me. Where can I find info about

RE: pop server

qmail includes qmail-pop3d, which does everything I need it
 to. What is your
 criteria for better?

I said better in terms of performance.
I was using sendmail/qpopper from several years ago and last
month I switch to qmail and (thanks god ;-) it's working ok.
I'd read in the list several messages talking about pop servers
but nobody named qpopper, so I was asking for a good reason
to change qpopper.

do you think qmail-pop3d is a good choice?
