Yes get a new OS or listen to Charles arrggh From: Steve Reed [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2001 6:44 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: qmail Installation Someone just sent me a note and said they were able to install qmail without a problem on Mandrake 8. I just downloaded the very latest ISOs and qmail still won't install for me. So, assuming that I must be doing something totally asinine, here is exactly, step by step, what I am doing. Hopefully some kind soul can read this and tell me what I'm doing wrong: 1. Download the qmail compressed file into the /usr/local/src directory. 2. Decompress the file, creating /usr/local/src/qmail-1.03. 3. Create the /var/qmail directory (yes I'm logged on as root). 4. Modify INSTALL.ids using the first section for Linux. It does create the users and groups. 5. Do a "make setup check" in the /usr/local/src/qmail-1.03 directory. It runs and is busy compiling. 6. When compile is finished, the /var/qmail directory is still empty. So, when I try to do the ./config it of course errors out because it can't find the right directories in /var/qmail. Soany ideas? -Steve

They originate from a different address that traced to .kr or .cn or some other unfriendly country, so you can't email their provider to turn them off. RE: [OT] qmail & php
I have a machine with apache_mod_ssl+php4+mod_jk and the MTA is qmail and i have yet to have any problems using php scripts on it. I am using a FreeBSD 4.1.1 Box and for the sendmail mailwrapper i used this If the system undergoes a 'make world', its going to replace the sendmail link to /var/qmail/bin/sendmail, qmail and break the package. Dj-vapor kindly pointed out that linking to the qmail's sendmail binary at/var/qmail/bin/sendmail is a not the best solution, there's an even more fun way of doing it. He suggests using mailwrapper to link to qmail's sendmail binary. First we'll link the old sendmail binary to mailwrapper. Lastly, we'll edit /etc/mail/mailer.conf and replace the old sendmail binary locations with qmail's sendmail binary. # ln -s /usr/sbin/sendmail /usr/sbin/mailwrapper # pico -w /etc/mail/mailer.conf Replace the following lines: sendmail /usr/libexec/sendmail/sendmail send-mail /usr/libexec/sendmail/sendmail mailq /usr/libexec/sendmail/sendmail newaliases /usr/libexec/sendmail/sendmail With: sendmail /var/qmail/bin/sendmail # send-mail /var/qmail/bin/sendmail -bp # mailq /var/qmail/bin/sendmail # newaliases /var/qmail/bin/newaliases If you want more information on mailwrapper, then type the line below on your FreeBSD machine.: # man mailwrapper If you don't want to use mailwrapper, then you can simply link the old sendmail binary to qmail's sendmail binary using one of the methods below Good Luck Jps -Original Message- From: Gordon McDowall [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2001 10:50 AM To: Bill Andersen; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [OT] qmail & php I have a machine with php and qmail on it, but I can't remember which I installed first ;o( I will put a php form script on if you like to test it - Original Message - From: "Bill Andersen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2001 3:28 PM Subject: [OT] qmail & php > When I installed qmail, I obviously removed sendmail. qmail-qread qmail-qstat
I am trying to find out what mail is in my queue and who it is from / going to. I read through the man pages on qmail-qstat and qmail-qread but they are not very infomative. I was wondering if anyone out there that might know a good URL for this or a better way for me to do this. here is a small snip of my qmail-qread results doneremote [EMAIL PROTECTED] ( i am assuming this is a successfull delivery) remote [EMAIL PROTECTED] (this one i have no idea) 2 Apr 2001 01:03:20 GMT #220462 1941 remote [EMAIL PROTECTED] (this one i am assumming is a bounce waiting for a retry) Thanks Jps [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: inquire
yes this is very easy to do. find the .qmail-x for the email address you are trying to redirect and then simply add your second email address to it. Once you open the file and look at you will see its very simple to do. i.e .qmail-abuse file contents &[EMAIL PROTECTED] &[EMAIL PROTECTED] thanks Jps > all mails sent by the email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] will have an automatic > cc copy to [EMAIL PROTECTED]? is this possible? > > >
Logging
I would like to be able to log all subscriptions and un-subscriptions on my list. right now it is a basic ezmlm-idx list on a freebsd 4.1 box. I tried to look thru the .qmail files to see if I could add my email address to one of them but I could not find the one that handles the unsub/sub commands. any help with this would be appreciated. RE: MAIL FROM: <#@[]>
I have seen the same entries in my logs and i traced it back to be a perl form script i use as a contact form on a webpage i host that was causing the MAIL FROM: <#@[]> in my logs thanks Jps -Original Message- From: Dave Sill [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, March 19, 2001 2:26 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: MAIL FROM: <#@[]> "Jamin A. Sure you're not seeing this in double bounces? -Dave
RE: Repeated Identical Messages
I have had the repeated msg problem with some of the users on my ezmlm-idx managed list. I had one user tell me he got the same newsletter 12 times from me. Has anyone found a solution to this yet ? Thanks Jeremy Suo-Anttila
Re: DNS Patch Unavailable
all you need to do to fix the dns problem is change a setting in your dns.c source for qmail change the word "PACKETZ" to "65536" this is according to running Qmail by sams publishing. i have hacked this code a few times with 0 problems on 5 of my servers thanks Jps > For several days, I have attempted to download the patch that is > at http://www.ckdhr.com/ckd/qmail-103.patch but the server www.ckdhr.com > has not been responding at all. > > Is this patch available from any other locations or mirror sites? > > -- > John Evans > > >
Re: What's qmail 2.0 bugtraq is talking about?
the only exploits i could find about qmail is the one that djb wrote himself. HTML Emails Garbled when sent with qmail+ezmlm
I have been having a problem with HTML based emails getting garlbled when i send them out via qmail+ezmlm-idx most of the messages go out fine and have 0 problems while some will go out to random users on my list and they will be completely garlbled and most likely unreadable to the end user. I have attached the copies of the HTML I used.Tthe first link is the version that turned out fine with no problems when sent and the second is the exact same code as the first but was forwarded to me by a client who recieved it all garbled. http://dev.funeralwire.com/today.htm http://dev.funeralwire.com/today-bad.htm I am composing this message in Dreamweaver 4.0 and then Sending it out with Netscape 6.0 i have also been telling it not to embed the images into the emails and to pull them of remote www servers instead. This problem does not happen everytime i send out a mail and it also does not affect the same users everytime. I can send a user who received the email all garbled directly from my client and it will come through with out a hitch. and i have all tried setting up a test list on the same server with some of the users who recieved it garbled and i sent out the same email and it came through ok. I am really stumped here and i would appreciate any input. There was one small problem i having with the NIC on the server itself but i do not think it is the cause of the problem. When ever i send out the mail via ezmlm i get this error sometimes in my log files and dmesg Jan 31 19:02:23 ns1 /kernel: file: table is fullJan 31 19:02:23 ns1 last message repeated 112 timesJan 31 19:02:28 ns1 /kernel: dc0: watchdog timeoutJan 31 19:02:37 ns1 /kernel: dc0: watchdog timeoutJan 31 19:02:38 ns1 /kernel: dc0: no memory for tx listJan 31 19:02:38 ns1 /kernel: dc0: no memory for tx listJan 31 19:13:21 ns1 syslogd: exiting on signal 15 I am replacing the server right now and i am transfering it to a more power full machine with a better nic ( no more dc0 ) thanks Jeremy Suo-Anttila [EMAIL PROTECTED]
