Wilson you have a Virus, please get a decent virus
scanner!

Paul

You have probably heard about the Sircam Worm Virus
on the Radio/TV. It's a variant on previous Word/Attachment viruses (viriii for
classic scholars?) however the subject field on the email is generated randomly
from files on the hard disk of the machine that is infected. If you
receive any emails from anybody that contain the following textand an
attachment(s) only DO NOT OPEN
THEM!---Hi!
How are you?I send you this file in order to have your
adviceSee you later.
Thanks

I agree with dave

All the dumba$$ members who can't even run a virus
scan should be booted off, i'm getting bored of my server telling me about the
infected files!!

Ok another problem

2001-07-18 Thread Paul Garrett

I'm starting again from 'life with qmail' (about
3rd time now) and whenever i put the line:

SV:123456:respawn:env -
PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin svscan /service /dev/null
/dev/console 2/dev/console

in the inittab, it comes up with the folling error
on the screen over and over again

Supervise: fatal: unable to start qmail-smtpd/run:
file does not exist
/var/qmail/rc: ./Mailbox: No such file or
directory

I then have to remove the line and kill -HUP 1 to
stop the errors. There is a folder called /var/qmail/Mailbox so i dont
know why its not finding it.

Many thanks

Paul

Ok so it looks to me like its running? And if I use
qmail-inject to send mail to an account on another system it seems to work but
when I reply to the mail it just bounces back to me.
I have installed it in this directory:
root@Area79:/var/qmail# ls
Mailbox
alias bin boot control doc man popboxes queue rc
rc. supervise users
root@Area79:/var/qmail#
The assign file looks as follows:

=crap-design-co-uk:popuser:509:509:/var/qmail/popboxes/crap-design-co-uk/crapadmin/:::
=area79-cnm-uk-net-paul:popuser:509:509:/var/qmail/popboxes/area79-cnm-uk-net/paul:::
=b0ll0x-net-paul:popuser:509:509:/var/qmail/popboxes/b0ll0x-net/paul:::

and the rcpthosts file looks like:

crap-design.co.uk
b0ll0x.net
area79.cnm-uk.net
.
and the virtual domains file looks like:

area79.cnm-uk.net:area79-cnm-uk-net
crap-design.co.uk:crap-design-co-uk
b0ll0x.net:b0ll0x-net

Can any1 give me some suggestions what to try next, have I
given enough information? I am new
to Linux so please be gentle :)

Best Regards
Paul

Thanks, but when i run the smtpd part manually it hangs like below:

root@Area79:/var/qmail/bin# ./qmail-smtpd
220 area79.cnm-uk.net ESMTP

I then have to kill the process :/

I forgot to mention that i'm running it on Slackware 7

Partitial. qmail-send and it's childs are running - this is the queue
manager. You don't have qmail-smtpd running. Reconsult life with qmail
to
 get it up and running.

check the point 16 in INSTALL file if u want to start qmail-smtpd
using
inetd or FAQ point 5.1 if u want to start using tcpserver.

You need to submit better reports. We can't help you without a lot more
 information that you gave us.

The best thing for you, probably, is to stop qmail, and
reinstall/reconfigure
according to Dave Sill's excellent Life with qmail. You can find a
pointer
to it at qmail.org, which you should visit just to see all the other
useful
 tips and tricks.

Life with qmail is more of a step-by-step guide to setting up qmail and
verifying that you've done it right. It's also a more modern way to
install
qmail than the instructions included in the tarball (daemontools, etc).
Life
with qmail also includes a hint or two about what information the mailing
list needs to see in a problem report.
