421 Internal Error
Hi, I am running qmail-1.03 MTA. Whenever a message is delivered to a Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Server version 5.5.2448.0, it says "421 Internal error.". But when I telnet to port 25 and deliver the same message, the message is received. Has it got to do something with the way MS exchange server interprets CR or LF fields? Thanks in advance. - Ashok
tcpserver fork
RedHat 6.1 with qmail-1.03 and ucspi - 0.84. qmail-smtpd is run by tcpserver and the -c value is 2000. But as soon as it reaches 1247 sessions, it is not able to fork further processes, the error message is: tcpserver: warning: dropping connection, unable to fork: temporary failure This value (1247) does not change even when I increase RAM from 512MB to 1GB or decrease it to 128MB. My question is what causes fork to not run a new process. I know it is a non qmail question. But someone over here who has already solved this problem may help me or point me to some URLs to troubleshoot this. Thanks. - Ashok
tcpserver unable to fork
Is there any limit on tcpserver forking processes? I have configured tcpserver to fork qmail-smtpd with concurrent sessions of 2000. I have made a simulator that makes upto 2000 connections to qmail-smtpd. But when the simulator reaches 1247 connections, tcpserver reports error which is: tcpserver: warning: dropping connection, unable to fork: temporary failure I am testing this on a P-III, 500MHz RedHat Linux 6.1 machine with 512MB RAM and 1GB SWAP. The machine is off-line and there is no queue. I am only using it to stress test the machine so I can arrive at a value on number of simultaneous connections this machine can take. The simulator connects to port 25 and simply says "HELO localhost\r\n". /proc/sys/fs/file-max is defined as 65536. Is there any additional fine-tuning I need to do with the kernel or file-system? Thanks in advance. - Ashok
Re: Big and/or famous sites using qmail?
What is Bluetail Mail Robustifier? I couldn't find any pointers on the Net. Thanks. - Ashok Actually, Algonet is part of Telenordia, and has in all about 300,000 users or so. All mail is run on qmail, though we're now using the Bluetail Mail Robustifier as frontend for the qmail boxen. They make an extremely good, fast and stable combination. /Jenny, mailadmin at Telenordia/Algonet -- "I live in the heart of the machine. We are one."
