queue problems

hi

how can I completely purge queue of messages and fix the annoying bounce
message?

without stopping qmail

I deleted the message then the next delivery of the mail failed and I
thought darn I forgot to stop qmail, so I restarted it and then errors on
bounce messages started appearing

the problems are that the hostname I set qmail up under was fbm.sdns.net and
sdns.net keeps dissappearing so I changed all the qmail control files to
fbm.yi.org but when I sent from elsewhere it still used the sdns.net address
also there has been problems with the mail servers at uea (norwich uni)

now there are more messages in my queue that are undeliverable, so I would
like to clear the queue safely, I presume they would expire after a while
but I would like to get rid of them so I can test that I have qmail working
without getting tonnes of old error messages from old emails

Neil

PS sorry to obscure part of my logs but my sisters email address isnt
relivant

Download queue-fix from the link at www.qmail.org and compile it -- if you're
using the big-todo patch for qmail, you'll also need to patch queue-fix. Then
stop qmail, and run queue-fix on your queue. It should be able to handle
this.

qmail-queue problems

2001-03-02 Thread Chris Brick

Hi folks,

I have a single qmail-queue process that is eating all of my resources. I
have used the queue-fix program in test mode and it has not found any
problems. When I run the utility to list the queue, there are only about
20 messages in and all have been preproccessed.

I am currently searching the archives for answers, but if anyone has
tackled this issue in the past, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Chris

Read www.qmail.org. There's several links there that do precisely this.

i'm also receiving messages from foreign hosts about outgoing messages
 bouncing from my server ...

You'll need to be more descriptive for us to help you with this. Try actually
posting the messages you're receiving, for a start. You should also tell us
the hostname of your mailserver, as many common problems can be diagnosed
with a simple DNS query and possibly telnetting to your SMTP port.

Take a look at qmhandle:

http://www.io.com/~mick/soft/qmhandle.html

Don't forget to stop qmail before you mess around in the queue.

An alternative that I've used successfully is to
1) Stop qmail, qmail-smtpd and anything else that might try to deliver
messages - leave qmail-pop3d, then at least users can get their
existing mail.
2) Delete the offending messages from the /var/qmail/queue/mess
directories with something like:
find /var/qmail/queue/mess -type f -exec grep "^Subject: Want a
University Diploma" {} \; -print -exec rm {} \;
3) run queue-fix to clean up the appropriate related files in todo,
intd etc.
4) restart qmail.

qmhandle requires individual message numbers to delete messages. When
you have 100,000 messages, this is impractical! queue-fix is written by
Eric Huss, and is available at
http://www.netmeridian.com/e-huss/queue-fix.tar.gz

It's also worth knowing that the find command will still potentially
take hours to delete all that junk - be prepared for some phonecalls!

You've probably got some junk in the queue that'll be cleaned out
automatically after a couple days. If you're concerned, look at the
files and read INTERNALS.

Also clients have been getting times out when trying to send mail...

These problems are probably unrelated. Are you logging errors? What do
you see when you telnet to port 25 and manually inject a message?

Upgrading fron sendmail to Qmail, queue problems

2000-06-05 Thread net admin

Hi Folks;
I am upgrading a FreeBSD sendmail server to Qmail, did go through the FAQ
and docs extensively, qmail runs and I see all the processes running but
when I try to send mail to local user I get the following errors:

qmaili delivery 1: defferal: fastforward:_fatal:_
qq:_trouble_creating_files_in_queue(#4.3.0)/

qmaili warning: trouble opening local/2/0/70377; will try again later

and
qmaili delivery 1: defferal: sorry,_message_has_wrong_owner

I am using fastforward for sendmail /etc/aliases
~alias/.qmail-default contains:

| fastforward -d /etc/aliases.cdb

I did: tcprules /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb /etc/tcp.smtp.temp /etc/tcp.smtp
and it was OK

also did 'make setup check' at the qmail source dir and went OK

AND I AM RUNNING OUT OF CLUES! (time to get coffee and another brain)

Thanks for any help

Dan

Queue problems

1999-09-03 Thread Kevin Sawyer

I've noticed /var/qmail/queue/mess getting quite full lately, almost as if
qmail-clean has died. However, it is still running. When I stop/restart
the queue functions (qmail-clean, etc.), the queue shrinks back to normal
quickly. I'm running qmail-1.03+patches under RH Linux 6.0 (kernel
2.2.5-22SMP) on a dual PPro 200Mhz box with a fantastic disk subsystem. Any
ideas?
