Re: [qmailadmin] Invalid Login
Why are you making your domain users with ids other than vpopmail? Thanks, Charles Using system quota to enforce domain quota.

Anyone with access to that machine can learn your MySQL password for the vpopmail database and use it to read passwords, make changes or just delete everything. Very bad idea. How about making it group readable, and having all of your domains set to use vpopmail's gid (but the user accounts would NOT use vpopmail's gid). chmod 640 vpopmail.mysql, chmod 770 the domain directory. another solution would be to change the uid/gid for that domain in qmail's assign file to 89/89 (vpopmail's uid/gid) and then chown vpopmail.vchkpw the domains dir in 510/510's home dir AND the home dir itself (or chmod 744 510/510's home dir). i don't like this solution either as i want to keep 510/510's home dir owned by that user AND have 700 permission for privacy. What's wrong with keeping all of the domains in ~vpopmail/domains? Why do your users need access to their domain directory if they have qmailadmin to manage it? so the only other solution which i could think of was to set that domain's uid/gid as 0/0 in qmail's assign file. now, what kind of security risks could this setup pose? i'm brand new to qmail, so i'm not sure (just installed it a few days ago). Not a good idea. Any file qmailadmin creates will be owned by root and other utilities managing the domain won't be able to change it. -- Tom Collins - [EMAIL PROTECTED] QmailAdmin: http://qmailadmin.sf.net/ Vpopmail: http://vpopmail.sf.net/ Info on the Sniffter hand-held Network Tester: http://sniffter.com/

Re: [qmailadmin] qmailadmin 1.2.0 + vpopmail 5.4.0 +mysql inconsistency problems
valias mysql was not supported in qmailadmin 1.2.0. Tom added support for valias/mysql in qmailadmin 1.2.1 At 12:56 PM 3/26/2004, you wrote: Hello, I'm using vpopmail 5.4.0 with qmailadmin 1.2.0 and noticed that the link to manage aliases is missing in the qmailadmin interface, after reading posts in this mailing list i learned that forwards aliases are merged into 'forwards' only, that's fine with me however i noticed a problem: i'm using vpopmail with mysql authentication and it seems there's something wrong with the way forwards are enumerated / created in qmailadmin, if i add an alias with vpopmail using e.g: ./valias -i mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED][EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED][EMAIL PROTECTED] an entry gets added to the valias mysql table as it should, i can send emails to the alias address i'll receive them fine, the problem arise when i try to view the alias i've just created in the qmailadmin interface, it won't show up. After looking at the qmailadmin source it turns out aliases / forwards are enumerated by seaching .qmail* files in the domain directory, but there's no such file for the alias i've created since i'm using mysql authentication! There's a similar problem when adding forwards through the qmailadmin interface, qmailadmin will create a .qmail file for the forward instead of adding an entry to the valias mysql table, causing inconsistencies. I'm not familiar with the vpopmail api and didn't look at it yet, but doesn't it have a way that qmailadmin could use to create/ enumerate aliases which is independent of the auth system used by vpopmail, just like it does for users? I mean, whether you create aliases/forwards using 'vpopmail/bin/valias' or through qmailadmin they should all be stored the same way (in the mysql table if you use mysql, or as a qmail file otherwise) shouldn't they? Will there be an update to qmailadmin and possibly vpopmail if it's missing an aliases/forwards enumerationcreation api ? Best Regards Best Regards, Jeff Koch, Intersessions

[qmailadmin] time for the massive upgrade
after putting it off for an eternity, the inevitable has come, and i must upgrade to the latest stable versions of vpopmail/qmailadmin/vqadmin. i'm currently running vpopmail 5.3.18 qmailadmin 1.0.12 vqadmin 2.3.5 i'm using mysql backend authentication. as i recall, there have been major changes to alias/forward handling. i'm going to be building out a new server in parallel to the existing server, so that i can test everything thoroughly then migrate the customer data across. but i'm curious if anyone has any particularly nasty 'gotchas' i should look out for. thanks in advance.
