Based on the info given my best guess would be that you do not have
permissions set correctly on the qmailadmin executable. I use mpm-itk
so I can configure apache to run the virtual host as vpopmail:vchkpw,
maybe that helps...

I can't speak to your script since I don't use it and don't know what it
does, but the file being referenced there is a log file from
daemontools. That might be your qmail logs, or some other service you
configured when you built the system. In some cases those files might
be located in /var/log/qmail, or it might be located within the service
directory structure under /service/qmail-smtpd or some such. I know
that isn't overly helpful, but maybe if you can find where the files are
supposed to be you can run the script manually to try and deduce what is
happening...

if you happen to be using dovecot, a good server-side soltuion is to set
up doveadm to purge old messages using cron.

[qmailadmin] Autorespond and mailing lists

2012-01-20 Thread Bob Miller
Hello,

I understand that some auto-responders do not reply to mailing lists. I
am curious if qmailadmin's auto-responder is one of these, or do I need
to unsubscribe to all my lists before I use auto-responder?

[qmailadmin] trailers

2010-10-16 Thread Bob Miller
Good Day,
I recently had a customer ask me about setting up trailers on his
mailing lists. After a day of trial and error and searching for the
missing piece of my puzzle, I am finally at the conclusion that I should
ask.
It appears that the problem is that the contents of the text directory
are not being populated when the "edit text files" for remote
administration setting is enabled.
In my investigation, I have come to understand that the settings for
allowing remote administration and editing of text files by moderators
must be enabled in order to enable trailers. so I have set up a
testlist with those settings enabled, however, the setting for including
the trailer will not stay on, and sending a message to edit the file
returns a message saying the file doesn't exist.
On the server, when I enable the remote administration and the editing
files settings, a text directory is created in the domain's directory in
vpopmail, however it is empty.
I have been able to work around the problem by copying the contents of
the text directory from the main ezmlm config (stored
in /etc/ezmlm/default/text on my system) into the newly created text
directory and setting the appropriate permissions on those files.
Now that I have the files existing where qmailadmin apparently wants to
see them, I can send the mail commands that modify the trailer, and the
include a trailer option will stay enabled in the qmailadmin gui.
This work around is okay for stuff I am doing, but it will basically
mean that a customer cannot modify this stuff on his own without me
copying those files on the server. Not that I mind, but life would be
better if it wasn't required.
I have searched the help files, I have searched google, I have tried
various combinations of settings, and I have searched the configure
script for building qmailadmin for some clue as to how to make this work
without my manual copying technique. If such a document exists that
explains what I am missing, I cannot find it. I would greatly
appreciated it if someone could point me at my missing piece to the
puzzle...

Re: [qmailadmin] Modify Mailing List: many functions not working

2010-10-14 Thread Bob Miller
Hello,
I can't say what is causing those errors, but for workarounds, I can
suggest about this one from a recent experience, at least a little bit:

> 2) Include a trailer at the end of each message.
> results in "Internal Server Error" (no change for non idn domain)
> apache error log has:
> [Thu Oct 14 13:15:48 2010] [error] [client 109.251.3.19]
> mod_mime_magic: can't read `/var/www/localhost/cgi-bin/qmailadmin',

Recently I tried to use this trailer thing, but the checkmark wouldn't
stick. However, I did find that if you check the "remote admins can
edit files" it creates a text directory in the domain's mail directory.
I then copied the files from the text directory in the main ezmlm config
into this new text directory and set permissions, then the check for
include a trailer would stick.
Given your errors, I have no confidence that this will work for you, but
it can't hurt to see if it makes a difference. Your problem look to be
related to apache or some other software that is causing qmailadmin to
not work correctly.
But that is my experience with this particular settings. So far, I have
not had time to dedicate to finding a better solution, one where the end
user can manage that stuff on his own, but if I do I will post here. If
I don't, I will most likely post the question here again...

[qmailadmin] qmail-autoresponder

2009-11-12 Thread Bob Miller
Hello.
Not sure exactly where this problem lives, so it may not be appropriate
to ask here, but since I already lurk on this list, seems like a good
place to start.
I was recently charged with building a new mail server. I decided to
try Bruce Guenter's qmail-autoresponder again, but am about to put it on
the shelf for the second time, I am stuck on the same problem as last
time. It appears a number of other people are able to make it work
properly, but for me, while the responder does respond and keep track of
responses, it does not interact correctly between the qmailadmin
interface and the .qmail file. Before I call it quits, I figure I
should see if there is something I have overlooked.

Preliminary:
-I have modified the autorespond.c and user.c files to have the proper
command line syntax (as per this and other similar suggestions:
http://forum.qmailrocks.org/archive/index.php/t-3.html)
-I have run the ./configure command with
--enable-autoresponder-path=/usr/local/bin/qmail-autoresponder and
verified that said path is valid
-I have also tried ./configure with
--enable-autoresponder-bin=/usr/local/bin
-I am using qmailadmin-1.2.13 and qmail-autoresponder-0.97

What works:
-When a user fills in the auto-response fields in qmailadmin, the .qmail
file is modified, the vacation directory is created, and the message
file is created.
-A sender will get a response, under the vacation directory an empty
file is created to keep track of who has been responded too already.

What doesn't work:
-After a vacation message has been set in qmailadmin and the modify-user
button has been clicked, the related fields are all cleared and it
appears on the qmailadmin interface that there is no vacation message
set.
-If a vacation message is set multiple times (as is apt to happen when a
user sees his stuff disappear), the .qmail file is modified to include
an additional entry for the vacation message. One can pretty quickly
accumulate 5 or 10 entries for the qmail-autoresponder program.
-of note, the vacation message is always overwritten with the latest
message.
-After some days (more than one, less than 5) qmail-send started
throwing errors with regards to vacation response. Unfortunately, these
errors have rotated out of the logs already. manually removing the
auto-response entries from the .qmail file fixed that up, though.

Investigation:
-using auditd, I am able to determine that when a change is made to
the .qmail file by qmailadmin, it is being done by user vpopmail and
from the qmailadmin file.
-On another mail server with the inter7 autorespond, I compared the
directory structure and permissions of the vacation folder and .qmail
file. They are identical on both machines, yet the data in the
created/modified files does not appear to be available to qmailadmin.
-In as much as the qmail-autoresponder is responding, the program is
functioning fine, this would have me believe the modifications to the
command line parameters in the .c files were successful. The problem,
at least from my perspective, is that the existence of the auto-response
entries in the .qmail file and the existence of the vacation directory
and its contents seems to be hidden from qmailadmin.
-Interestingly, qmailadmin does retain mail routing settings (forwards),
and has no problem modifying the .qmail to adjust for these settings,
even when the .qmail file has upwards of ten auto-responder lines in it.

Questions:
-Not being a programmer, I find code overwhelming and cryptic. Not to
say I can't hack some things up, but I haven't found any more instances
in any .c files that look relevant to changing from autorespond to
qmail-autoresponder. Not that I am sure what relevant should look like.
Are there some suggestions on how I might zero in on this apparent lack
of communication between qmailadmin and the related vacation files?
-I have read articles that suggest qmail-autoresponder may become the
default qmailadmin responder some day in the future. Is there any truth
to this?

Thank you...
