[qmailtoaster] Opinions wanted

2007-08-08 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hey all,

What are some suggestions for a post install script that could be ran to
further harden a toaster system?

This is something that I think I can contribute if you guys give me a list
of things you think you would like to see the script install/setup.

Or is it good the way it is and should I just leave it alone?

Thanks

Q

Hey guys,

Any one using this? How effective is it? Any pointers if I try to
install it?

RE: [qmailtoaster] Submission port

2007-08-08 Thread Kyle Quillen
I checked out that before and there we no errors. Of course I requested
that the ip be taken off of the blacklist it was on.

I ran the command
Cat | grep [EMAIL PROTECTED] current

It pulled all of that user logs but there were no errors So I am not sure
what happened.

The submission port was installed with the toaster. I have just never used
it until now.

Thanks

The logs should be in /var/log/qmail/submission/current, unless you
set up your own port 587. If you created your own you may have carried
over a few things like rblsmtpd that shouldn't be there.

You could add an iptables rule to block everyone, except the IP

spend lots of time chasing your own users. Not fun.

Make sure your system is patched and built using the QMT scripts. The
firewall is very good. I run yum update weekly to keep it up to date.

What I do when this happens is look in /var/log/maillog for the IP
address of the offender. Then run whois to get the ISP of
the offender. If it is in the US/Canada, I fire off an e-mail with
the logs (/var/log/maillog) to the abuse address and I use the key

AUP violation with your subscriber." If the attack is from China, I
don't even waste my time.

When I was at a web hosting company, we took these complaints

I did have a BF attack from Argentina that went on for hours. I
e-mailed the ISP and it stopped about 15 minutes later.

One more tip:
Make sure your reverse DNS for your new server is set up. Comcast and
AOL reject mail that does not have reverse DNS set up correctly. See

I have tried to find the area in the logs and can't seem to.

I am going to try and replicate and then it will hopefully be in there for
that user and email.

Thanks

[qmailtoaster] Is this still a valid list

2007-08-08 Thread kquillen
Of perl modules that need installed?

I pulled this from an email back on the 7th of January

I don't think I have the time or energy to handle rpm's for every perl
module used by SpamAssassin for every distribution we support.

For those that can, use RPMForge, for those distros not covered you'll
have to use CPAN.

That said, if you are on CentOS4 + RPMForge you can run this command:

yum -y install autoconf automake automake17 bzip2 bzip2-devel
compat-gcc-32 compat-gcc-32-c++ curl curl-devel expect expect-devel
gcc gcc-c++ gdbm gdbm-devel gmp gmp-devel httpd httpd-devel krb5-devel
krb5-libs libidn libidn-devel libtool mysql mysql-devel mysql-server
mrtg openssh openssh-clients openssh-server openssl openssl-devel pcre
pcre-devel php-imap php-mysql redhat-rpm-config rpm-build rpm-devel
rpm-libs rpm-python sed setup stunnel which groff make diffutils
pam-devel procmail ntp perl-DBD-MySQL perl-URI perl-Digest-HMAC
perl-Net-DNS perl-Net-SSLeay perl-Net-Ident perl-Archive-Tar
perl-Net-CIDR-Lite perl-libwww-perl perl-Socket6 perl-Filter perl-DBI
perl-HTML-Tagset perl-Digest-SHA1 perl-HTML-Parser perl-Time-HiRes
perl-IO-Socket-SSL perl-IO-Zlib perl-Sys-Hostname-Long
perl-Mail-SPF-Query perl-LWP-UserAgent-Determined perl-IO-Socket-INET6
perl-Geography-Countries perl-IP-Country perl-Razor-Agent

For all dependencies on CentOS 4.x.

Re: [qmailtoaster] heavy load for latest clamav and spamd?

2007-08-08 Thread Philip Nix Guru

Hello
I have very busy smtp servers
using clamav 0.91.1
When I combined it with spamassassin-toaster-3.1.8-1.3.8 all is working
fine

When I did combine it with spamassassin-toaster-3.2.2-1.3.11 the
scanning time increased badly

and all mails got tagged with RDNS_NONE
The reason is :
There was a change in SA around 3.2.1 whereby it no longer relies on its
own code to do PTR lookups (rDNS) of the MTAs showing in the Received:
headers. Instead it relies on the local MTA to have done it and written
it into the header field.

By default *Qmail* doesn't do rDNS lookups (performance reasons), so you
need to change tcpserver to do them - which then makes SA happy again.
i.e. you want "tcpserver -h" instead of "tcpserver -H"

I have a lot of extra rules and for the performance I reverted back to
spamassassin-toaster-3.1.8-1.3.8 on a few of my smtps

Will do more tests over the weekend

First of all, 10,000 - 30,000 messages per day is not even close to
what I consider "heavy load." I manage a couple of qmailtoaster
servers, one of which handles >200,000 messages per day and the other
one more than twice that. Even these I do not consider high load.

I am currently running SA 3.2.1 and ClamAV 0.90.3 and have not had any
issues at all with said load.

I will be upgrading both of these machines tonight to the latest SA
and clamav packages on the devel site. I had been waiting for the new
SA to show up there to do an upgrade. Whenever I build a new QMT box,
I always include whatever latest packages are on the devel site, and
for the past two years that I have been using QMT I have not had any
issues.

I am running ClamAV exactly as it is on the dev site.

I am not planning to move things to the main site for now. I am
working on too many things at once with regards to this project:

1) Keep current branch up to date
2) Answer questions on this list
3) Finish QT 1.4 (binary yum updates available for non-djb packages, etc)
4) Merge Devel and Main site together

For now, I am just going to put the packages on the devel site.

If i think correctly on this new machine amount of messages can be hier upto
two times (~60-70K) (much more virtual domains).

I have no issues. I process approx 30K messages a day on some of my boxes.

The new spamassassin requires many more perl modules to be complete.
Best bet is to either use rpmforge repo and install the perl modules
via rpm OR to cpan install them.

Without the packages, the load is higher with the new spamassassin.

2007-08-08 Thread Jean-Paul van de Plasse
I had problems before with emails coming from ticketmaster.co.uk and some
other domains.
The chkuser settings are a bit outdated since lots of domains use "strange"
characters that ckuser dislikes.

And they are allowed per rfc (if i remember correctly).

Thats why I disabled the sender format check totally.
Can not risk to miss emails for this reason.

I'm having the same problem with blackberry users in my domain.

I've traced the problem down to a forward slash character ('/') in the
SRS-ified To: header in messages coming from blackberry users to users in
my domain. Chkuser doesn't like this.

I was about to go through the process listed at

the list of characters allowed by chkuser but altering the tcprules stuff
looks like a much easier fix.

My question is this: Is this only going to be a problem with messages
coming from na.blackberry.com mail servers? If so then the tcprules fix
makes sense. If it's going to be a general problem with domains that do
SRS then wouldn't it make more sense to change the chkuser settings to
allow forward slash and eventually make that a default in the stock
qmailtoaster install?

I've only ever seen this problem with messages coming from blackberry
users.

Thanks.

I was wondering if it has anything to do with the rfc822; in front

However I left the request for read receipts from my testing on when I sent

I once stumbled upon a .qmail file someone had made that would strip out the
header(s) used for read/return receipts. I think the
only one that really needs stripped is Disposition-Notification-To though.

I find these to be very annoying myself and can't find the .qmail file anymore.
Would anyone happen to know how I could easily do
this off the top of their heads? Using the toaster, I don't want to affect all
users, just my mail.

[qmailtoaster] No X-Spam-Status header

2007-08-08 Thread Brent Gardner
I'm seeing some mail come through my qmailtoasters that do not get the
X-Spam-Status header.

Most messages seem to be processed properly but some are not.

All messages are getting a header like this:

Received: by simscan 1.3.1 ppid: 11009, pid: 11010, t: 1.3068s
scanners: attach: 1.3.1 clamav: 0.90.1-exp/m: spam: 3.1.8

The messages that seem to not be processed properly are missing headers
such as these:

X-Spam-Status
X-Spam-Level
X-Spam-Checker-Version
X-OriginalArrivalTime
X-Spam-Flag
X-Spam-Report
X-Spam-Prev-Subject

I did some research on the SpamAssassin mailing lists and found where
someone seemed to have the same problem and had a theory about the cause
and had a viable workaround:

http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/spamassassin-users/200601.mbox/browser

To summarize: the problem appears to be related to a Perl bug that can
be triggered when multiple messages are processed simultaneously. The
suggested workaround is to resubmit messages that do not contain the
X-Spam-Score header after processing.

The poster was using SpamAssassin with Procmail. Is there a way to
implement this with qmail, or is there a better way to address this
issue in the qmailToaster environment?

Thanks.

Hi,

The @Mail dev team have created a module for spamassassin which uses the

http://freshmeat.net/projects/pdfassassin/

installation seems very easy but I miss the requirement pdftotext
do you have it on your qmt?
I dont have it. can I do
yum install xpdf to get pdftotext ?
or is there any binary for centos ? (really hate compiling from source)

for gocr already installed when installing fuzzyocr

Hi Anatoly Alexei Pedemonte Ku,
now pdfassassin installed is installed on my qmt but when I monitor
spamd log
it display error "Undefined subroutine &Pdf::clean_pdf_tmp called at
/etc/mail/spamassassin/Pdf.pm line 122"

if the message has pdf attached
and on /tmp folder I found many 2-3 days old spamassassin.pdf.* files
lying there, not deleted by SA

did you experience the same problem ??

any body has use it ?
